Ignore the hate
els-7248711 May 2020
Not the most original episode, but I was laughing consistently throughout. The hate is from people who don't like Christianity being mocked.

Best Episode of the Season

This is one of the storytelling-style episodes about the Bible. Hilarious. Clever. It's gonna be a classic.

Warning: Spoilers
The Griffins have taken in at a motel during a thunder storm. Trying to think of what to do, Peter finds a Bible (which he mispronounces as "Bibble", which you can see in the title) and starts reading from it.

The first story is a take on the often retold Adam And Eve story. I like the reference to the MeToo movement (they seem to really dig into that lately) and God talking about how hard it is to look after them in the style of The Office. Quagmire of course gets cast in the role of the perverted snake, which provided some amusement. Peter and Lois disobey God's rules and get kicked out. What is the opposite of Paradise then, you ask? Florida, of course. I like how they're just thrown into this random mundane setting.

The second story is Noah's Ark, which I thought was the strongest segment. Chris and Meg listening to Peter and Lois arguing outside and hearing every fifth word managed to be funnier than the first time that joke was told, especially since "Mechabo Ultra" makes even less sense in the contemporary Biblical setting. Two of the animals being Christian Bale paired with a cameraman made me laugh. The stock sound use somehow makes it even better. My favorite gag is when Peter keeps berating Chris for not following his instructions, creating confusion by using very old-timey expressions. Then when he finally gets something right he lashes out at him for that too.

The final story centers on Jesus, particularly his last supper. This one is the weakest of the three, but still has his moments. Brian (in the role of Judas) trying to be hip while talking to Pontius Pilates (a.k.a. Carter) was an amusing very Brian-esque moment. When Jesus announces that someone will betray him tonight, everyone immediately looks at Cleveland. His defense that it makes no sense for him to be suspected when he's the only one depicted in the skin color appropriate for the time is so true. They also poke fun at the allegory of the bread representing Jesus body. The bread being one specific very gross body part (his dick) is perfectly gross. It ends with a roman guard (Ernie The Giant Chicken) coming to take Jesus away, which results in them starting to fight each other. I wouldn't have minded seeing more of that.

And that's where we get into my biggest problem with the episode: It feels too rushed. While my attention was never aloof or anything, every story ended very abruptly, the last one in particular. I think if they spent less time on the wraparounds, which must have taken up at least five minutes, they would've been able to give them more of a conclusion.

There were also some draggy, boring parts in The Last Supper, such as Jesus and Mary's conversation at the beginning and the various resturant jokes. The family leaving Brian behind to drown was already done in Yacht Rocky, and wasn't quite as funny as last time. I know Brian can be a bit much, but Meg enthusiastically asking if they can get a bird? It makes me feel bad for the old mutt.

This is not the best anthology the show has put together, but still a decent watch.

Ignore the hate. This is one of the best episodes this season.

The humor was funny. The jokes were short and sweet. The mocking of Christianity was funny. It kept me laughing and happy. I hope they make more episodes that are as funny as this episode.

Holly Bibble

Warning: Spoilers
They've done jokes about this time period here, I guess there was some new material they wanted to throw in.

Some stuff was funny, but overall unnecessary.

Does this get such low rating because of religious people?? Or else WHY?
vuileharry11 May 2020
Family Guy had me laughing from start to finish with this episode, I though it was hilarious and very well crafted. And please take this from me: if you have a little knowledge of whats in the Bible, it gets even that much better!

Even though I don't consider myself religious, since I refuse to belong to any religion, I do believe in God and Jesus in my very own way. And if you dislike this episode purely because of your religion then you can do 2 things imho: 1. get a sense of humor, I'm pretty sure God has one too, or 2. just dont watch this maybe?

The low basic rating this has is awful to me, this was a really good and very funny episode.

It wasn't an awful. Wasn't great. I chuckled once or twice. We get it. The writers are anti-Christian. Fine. But calling the bible a book for stupid people? A bit much.

Why the hate?

I don't get the low rating, I mean it's on par with previous episodes of the season. If you know that they may offend you don't watch it ffs.

I love FG but this episode just wasn't any good
rubseen12 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I watch FG like some people watch The Office. Over and over again. I love the humor and the usually accurate and poignant clips at society, religion, and art. This episode, however, lacked that usual (and expected) intelligent and witty aspect. They attempted to do a story episode based on the Bible, but didn't take any time to even research the subject. It would be like turning on the Star Wars episodes and they were some Star Wars with Star Trek with Battle Star Galatica. It just wouldn't make any sense and it would be obvious they didn't know about what they were talking. It could've been hilarious, but if you know even a modicum of the Bible, it just comes out as dumb and lazy.

One of the best episodes
hudamohsen14 May 2020
This reminds me of V for victory episode. I loved the leper colony robe joke and t by holly bibble joke and the restaurant scene and Noah answering God. Very funny execution. Even though I believe in God and the stories He told us, not exactly as the Bible tells them. I am not a Christian.

The people who hate this episode are a bunch of religious clout chasers. Seriously, how offended are these people? These people are just like the woke people on Twitter. It's pathetic.

Holy Bible, that was surprisingly funny.
adampkalb3 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched this for Stephanie Beatriz voicing one of the incidental roles, the Hostess in The Last Supper. I knew I would like this better than Better Off Meg, especially since the worst thing to happen to Meg in Holly Bibble was a bird carrying her away in the Noah's Ark story, but even without that comparison, Holly Bibble really surprised me with several laughs and unexpected turns. Even jokes with obvious anachronisms like the American Office, Monopoly and Life on Noah's ark, or Adam and Eve being banished to Jacksonville Florida worked.

Here are some of the best jokes of Holly Bibble. In story 1, The Garden of Eden, Peter tried to incorporate Bird is the Word when Adam and Eve name a bird, and Lois tells him to cut out Bird is the Word references. Even though grass was all that Adam and Eve had to wear, God called out Adam on sexually harassing Eve by telling her she should wear that to work more often. At the end, Meg asks Peter how Adam and Eve's children had children, and Peter mentioned the unfortunate reality that because Eve and Adam were the first woman and man on Earth, their kids all had to commit incest. Meg says "That's disgusting!" and Peter says "No, Meg. That's the Bible." and the joke of making fun of Bible incest continues at the end of Noah's ark. In story 2, Noah's Ark, Peter mentions that since Bill Cosby is in prison, he can't sue us for stealing his jokes, and Noah's family talks about school stonings like school shootings. It was also funny when Peter separates bathrooms by "Piles" and "Pellets" and some animals ask about types of poop that fit neither category. Then Chris and Peter promise God to stop doing butt stuff so the rain outside the motel will go away. In story 3, The Last Supper (wow, they skipped a long way from the early Old Testament to the New Testament!), Brian is supposed to be Judas and execute Jesus, but it never happens because Stewie and Ernie the Giant Chicken hijack the story at the most suspenseful part, and it was much funnier than when Pig did that in Back at the Barnyard. That twist ending is what really got me. It was my most favorite part of the story because Family Guy found such a clever, funny way to escape subjecting us to the torture we expect to happen to Jesus in this story. After the Griffins go home, Chris takes a liking to the Bible and continues to read it. I liked Holly Bibble because it didn't subject us to some shocking violent thing like the Red Riding Hood story in Grimm Job (plus the last scene of that same episode), and Family Guy knew how to make its own humorous take on the Bible stories funny and unpredictable.
