Diffrent than I expected
jonatanjelto20 April 2020
At first I didn't really knew what this series was about. I was more focussing on the background story of the world than the interview. After some googling I found out that these interviews were real and not some humor thing.

WARNING: If you treat the subject of the episode or it's guests as a spoiler don't read further!

This episode mainly goes about the perspective on drugs. Guest is David Drew Pinsky an American internist, addiction medicine specialist, and media personality. I really liked this episode and would recomend watching it a few times if you find it hard to follow, just like for the other episodes.

I think this series should be treated as a podcast. What I like about it is that the interviews are set in these bizar worlds that kind of interact with the interview together with the art style it makes for something interesting to watch.

Weird Enough to be Interesting

This is a good enough introduction to the kind of show that Midnight Gospel is. I can only assume that subsequent episodes will follow a similar format.

It feels to me like a stream of consciousness podcast played over animation. I guess the humour lies in the fact that the zombie apocalypse takes a backseat to the obviously less pressing discussion about drugs and meditation. The juxtaposition is key.

There's so much going on in the background at all times it can start to feel a little overwhelming. I can't help but think I might have missed some kind of hilarious detail amongst all of the chaos.

Definitely this first episode has me interested to see what else they can accomplish with this idea.

My only reservation is that I could see this style of show becoming uninteresting once the novelty of the format has worn off. I hope it spices things up.

Decent & unorthodox

It felt like everything was ad-libbed. Couple that with the art style, and you have a very unique show. Interesting introduction to some concepts that are foreign to me like mindfulness, and while the take on drugs is interesting, you could say that anything & everything is circumstantial to be honest.

The idea for this show is genius

I really enjoyed this first episode. At first, it felt a little weird because of the format, then I realized it seemed at lot of it was improv and then I googled it and realized this was created by using conversations of Duncan Trussell's podcast, which is a brilliant idea! I thought it was funny and witty, more than anything the idea behind it is awesome. This one felt a little preachy to me, but it's still really good. I really liked it and I hope there's an episode with Joe Rogan.

Hilarious and interesting

I found this episode very amusing because of both the events happening in the simulation and because of the juxtaposition between the silliness on screen and the serious and important conversation. I find it worked wonderfully together.

I especially enjoyed the animation style and feeling. Compared to the next few episodes, the pacing of the on-screen action was very enjoyable, and the gags felt perfect.

This show should be watched as a philosophical exercise
imatthenry14 November 2022
I started watching this show by accident. This first episode was at a friend's house. Until then I thought it was another one of those super well thought up anime with lots of adventures. And I was very wrong about that. Not that this isn't fun, on the contrary, it's much more than I expected.

It's a mixture of animations as crazy as Rick & Morty and real interviews with subjects covered in a deeply philosophical way. And yes, the interviews are real! It also took me by surprise when I found out.

In this first episode, Clancy discusses the use of cannabis and other drugs with a critical eye and rational wisdom. And he debates the topic with the character Glasses Man, president of the United States in a version of Earth that is in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

The interviewee was Dr. Drew Pinsky who became him, a Californian addiction specialist, former employee of the Department of Chemical Dependency at Las Encinas Hospital, and host of the Loveline radio show from its inception in 1984 to its end in 2016.

This show should be watched as a philosophical exercise, not pure entertainment. Despite the hilarious scenarios and worlds that test your concentration at all times with the dialogues taking place simultaneously. I had to watch this episode twice to keep up.

Animation in the same following as Rick & Morty, a great show, I highly recommend it!

Pretty interesting and fun... But not the best the show had to offer.

The beginning of the episode was a... Little boring, ngl. However, it builds up the direction where the show is heading to, and a really weird and goofy environment that most of Ward's shows have.

I'm still on the first episode, but I can already see the potential of this show and I'm gonna enjoy this show a lot!

Warning: Spoilers
This was definitely a promising start. It has a very cool concept and chucks you straight in without much dilly-dallying. It was a very very dialogue heavy episode, which I assume will be the format for the show. It takes a topic of discussion, this one being drugs, and goes on a bit of a tangent. What they're saying is engrossing, and I'd guess there isn't much of a script. It does feel like the episode is built around the conversation that Clancy has with the guest actor. There is certainly a lot of potential for this show, which opted for a pretty wacky approach in this pilot. I hope that there are some tonal shifts down the line

It was interesting and unique to watch. From the series tittle I wouldn't guess the plot. So far it's kind of unpredictable but I hope it will settle down in next episodes.

Not going to lie, pretty boring first episode.

Nothing actually happens. Show has very unique visuals, lots of potential but it's not funny, not deep as it thinks it is. Pretty boring start.

Great idea but Boring
arinjoymitra15 February 2022
The first episode seemed to have a very unique look and a very different feel to it. This mix of calm podcast type conversation within all chaos had a great potential to be something very funny but ended up pretty boring. I do have better hopes for the next episodes though.
