"Leo ja Liina" aired as a part of the program "Kaik' äänetön tyhjyys olkoon", hence not appearing in the TV listings. The air date December 31, 1972 at Yle TV2 channel also marked the 100 anniversary of the death of Aleksis Kivi. All actors were students from the acting course of Tampere University (Finnish: Tampereen yliopisto), led by teacher Matti Tapio (who also directed "Kaik' äänetön tyhjyys olkoon").
Based on the play "Leo ja Liina", written by Finnish author Aleksis Kivi in 1867. It was originally released as part of a book "Kiven valitut teokset II" in 1878. The play premiered in 1916 at the Joensuun Työväen Teatteri.
