Eric Frein allegedly killed one officer and injured another with a sniper rifle outside the Blooming Grove State Police Barracks in PA September 2014, then used his survival training to elude the police in nearby woods.
All of the prisoner uniforms were donated by the Holocaust Museum in Richmond, Virginia.
On three different occasions during filing, the actor Scott Carter witnessed his date of birth, the day and month, written somewhere on set. It was on a dedication plaque on the church wall where the crew filmed. It was also on a plaque that hangs over the gates in a Jewish Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia. While researching his role for the film, Carter toured the National Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. Upon entering the museum, you are given a faux passport with a historical person's name and date of birth. Carter's date of birthday was identical to that of the person on the passport.
The film was shot in three days.
One year prior to shooting Lustig, the director of photography, Max Fischer, worked on a documentary about Hitler's famous bunkers where many historical artifacts were kept during the war after being confiscated by the Germans.
