The Teochew opera Wang Maosheng Presents The Wine was featured on the TV in the film. The operatic piece that actor Chen Shucheng sings in the epilogue scene is also from Wang Maosheng Presents The Wine. This traditional opera is about friendship transcending wealth and status, like how water may taste sweeter than wine in the company of a good friend.
The audience never hears anything coming from the handset of the telephone - not the dial tone nor anyone speaking. The director Kew Lin wanted to rely not on that to exposit the story, rather, to rely on the performance and dialogue from actor Chen Shucheng.
