- Ian and Brian are sitting around their apartment, arguing about fantasy books. Brian suggests that they watch 'Harley Quinn', but Ian spit-takes at the idea and dismisses it as another heavy-handed female empowerment story. He insists that he's never seen the show, even though he knows all the plot details, and brings up the guide of the show, which says that it focuses on Batman waking from his coma and vowing to take back Gotham City. Ian agrees to watch it.

Bruce Wayne wakes up in his bed at Wayne Manor, staggers over to the window, and looks out on the ruins of Gotham. He calls to Alfred and collapses, and Alfred comes in and tells Bruce that it's not as bad as it looks. He helps Bruce back to bed, but Bruce insists that Gotham needs Batman. Alfred suggests that they be binge buddies and watch all the new shows since Bruce has been in a coma, and tells Bruce that Gordon is making sure law and order returns to the city.
When Gordon arrives, he tells Bruce that Gotham is a shit show. Bruce says that he's been doing stuff to cover for the fact that he was absent at the same time as Batman. Alfred tells Gordon that Bruce isn't going to bankroll Gordon's imaginary objects, and Gordon tells Bruce that there are no heroes left in Gotham except some amateurs, including Batgirl and a patriotic hero, Macaroni. He worries that no one has the balls to fight back without Batman.
Two-Face and Bane meet at the former City Hall, and Two-Face directs Bane to his folding chair. Bane suggests that they consolidate power because Harley has killed three of their allies. However, Two-Face says that he's not worried about and doesn't want to team up with likes of Bane when he doesn't have a big-boy chair.
In bed, Bruce watches Batgirl's videos of herself fighting crime. He tells Alfred that a "sorority girl" can't run around wearing the Bat Signal because it will make people think he's back. Bruce worries that if Batgirl is killed while wearing his symbol, the city will lose all hope. Alfred points out that Bruce can't do anything about it while he's recuperating, but Bruce knows someone who can.
Batgirl chases a criminal across the rooftops and takes him down. Batman approaches her and Batgirl expresses her fan enthusiasm. When Batman says that she shouldn't be wearing his symbol, Batgirl worries that it's copyrighted. He says that she's out of her depth and not safe, and Batgirl insists that she can handle herself. Batman takes out the recovered criminal behind Batgirl, and she does a video that Batman is back, and assures Batman that most of her million plus followers aren't bots.
Two-Face and his men break into a bank and rob the place. One customer tells Two-Face that they're not afraid of him. Two-Face wounds her with his gun and the other customers tell Two-Face the same thing because Batman is back. The original customer joins in, and Two-Face is shocked to learn that Batman is back.
Tawny soon announces on the news that Batman is back, and hope for the people of Gotham. Alfred turns off the TV that Bruce is watching, and points out that Bruce hasn't denied that Batgirl said Batman is back. Bruce insists that he's strong and will succeed, and Alfred tells him to prove it by putting his socks on. His master can', even with a reacher claw, and Alfred smugly points out that the city's protector should at least be able to put his socks on. Alfred warns Bruce that his ego is writing checks that his broken body can't cash. After Alfred leaves, Bruce calls Lucius.
At City Hall, Bane comes in and Two-Face quickly hides the newspaper he's reading about Batman's return. Two-Face then offers Bane an executive chair and Bane eagerly takes it, and then Two-Face gets him a drink. He claims that he was being tough on Bane but it was just good-natured ribbing. Bane points out that he thought it was mean-spirited, and Two-Face agrees with Bane's suggestion that they should join forces. Bane wonders if it has to do with Batman coming back, and Two-Face claims that it does not. They shake on it, although Bane insists that it has to be a fifty-fifty partnership.
Two-Face presents his idea for branding their partnership: a poster of just himself. He insists that the shadow of him is Bane, but Bane isn't convinced. He insists that he has to be on the poster.
In the Batcave, Lucius shows Bruce his prototype mechanical Batsuit loaded with weaponry, including an AI named Monica. Alfred comes into the Batcave and Bruce quickly drops a cloth on the suit so his butler doesn't see it. Although Bruce tries to laugh it off, Alfred already knows about the Batsuit and insists that Bruce can't fight crime in his current condition. Lucius quickly excuses himself rather than be drawn into the argument, and Alfred tells Bruce that he's not getting into the suit or fighting crime. Bruce seemingly agrees, but Alfred doesn't trust him and takes the Batsuit out on its dolly. His master smugly notes that the elevator is broken, and Alfred takes it up the stairs.
Later while Alfred is sleeping, Bruce sneaks into his room, activates the armor, and dons it. The pieces fly through the room, but Alfred sleeps through it all. When the pieces assemble on Bruce, he flies to the docks where Two-Face's goons are launching a crime wave. The Batsuit is bulletproof, and Batman easily defeats them. He snags two more crooks, and one of them say that they're working for Two-Face.
Bane arrives and Batman fights him, saying that he's there for-Two-Face since Two-Face is clearly running the operation. Offender, Bane leaps at the flying Batman in a rage and insists that he's equally in charge. They fight and Bane sees Two-Face's poster, and insists that he's on it. Bane charges himself up on Venom and is able to take on Batman and the Batsuit, throwing it into some cargo containers.
The two continue fighting, and Batman knocks Bane into the poster. Bane throws a cargo container at Batman and pumps more Venom, and continues pounding the Batsuit. Batman uses a codpiece missile to blast Bane back, but Bane knocks him down and finally breaks Batman's leg. Bane walks off, cursing himself as a gullible fool, and the Two-Face goons find the Batsuit. A batfan boy sees the defeated Batman, drops his Batman action figure, picks up a Two-Face gun, and walks off.
The goons string Batman up and make a video of the defeated hero so they can post it and let everyone in Gotham see. They hear something and two of them go to check it out, and the other amateur hero, the Macaroni, arrive and takes them down. Batgirl joins in the fight and Macaroni lets Batman down. Batman realizes that Macaroni is Alfred in a costume, and Macaroni uses the weapons in his wig to knock out one of the goons. Since Macaroni is unable to move the Batsuit on his own, he calls Batgirl over for help.
At City Hall, Bane storms in and demands respect from Two-Face. He boasts that he crushed Batman, and Two-Face convinces him to calm down. Bane turns off his Venom pump, and Two-Face tells Bane not to listen to Batman's claims that only Two-Face is running Gotham. He then asks if Bane killed Batman, and Bane admits that he just broke his legs. Two-Face suggests that they just kill Batman in the future, but assures Bane that he did a good job anyway. Bane wants a new name for their business that represents both of them, and Two-Face suggests that he needs space to do his best work. Two-Face takes Bane out to a crater in the middle of nowhere. Bane is swept up in the beauty of the place, and Two-Face quietly slips away.
In Gotham, Gordon finds the Bat Signal on and Batman sitting next to it. Batman assures Gordon that he would never abandon Gotham, and Gordon quickly brings him up to speed on the city's condition. The Caped Crusader says that he can't work, and he needs a little time to get back to his fighting weight. They both agree that Gotham needs a bat, and Batman introduces Batgirl as she drops in. With Gordon's help, Batgirl can keep the fear and the citizens' faith alive. Gordon reluctantly shakes hands with Batgirl, and Batgirl takes a selfie of the two of them to announce the news.
