Best episode ever
letiamj-9508817 November 2020
Since the he show is set in LA, I don't understand why people are upset they are taking about racial profiling. It's amazing they have gone this long without talking about it. For them to not talk about it with the current event, would be very unrealistic.

Although, I thought Gemma's "realization" of why some police beat up black people and her quick answer to her son Grover was a bit jarring.

However, The scene between Calvin and Dave in the truck was hopefully educational for many. The scene between Calvin and his son Malcolm on the street was very touching and stated the words that many people of color, especially blacks have felt for decades.

Overall, I thought the episode did a great job of balancing real world events with real emotion and provide a bit of levity.

An episode that isn't afraid to discuss serious topics
AnimatedCritic18 June 2021
I'm actually proud of this episode for not being afraid to shed some light in serious issues in the world. The plot was decent, and it had a great message and emotion. It seems unrealistic at times , but in all a good episode.

Good effort, bad acting
ahepburn-800523 January 2021
I appreciate the effort to bring out the Black Lives Matter movement. If you are doing a show about racial issues you can't gloss over BLM. The acting did not do justice to the importance of the subject. It sounded like a grade school skit.

Good to see

This episode was perfect. This conversation is one that too many people are trying to avoid because it might be uncomfortable. I am so glad that this great show is showing that some issues should not be avoided. Great show!

Very appropriate for the times
paulski1-117 November 2020
I commend "The Neighborhood" for focusing on real world events. Yes, it may not have been as funny as other episodes, but the subject is more than appropriate. The message should be delivered anywhere possible. Our current concerns remind me of real-life issues that were addressed on other highly-regarded comedies, including "All In the Family", "Maude", and "The Golden Girls".

After reading negative reviews, I watched this episode for a second time. The last five minutes, with the father and son discussion, are especially pertinent. You will not laugh, but hopefully, you may think about inequality.

This episode reran this evening, Nov. 29. For me, watching it a 3rd time reinforces my earlier perspective that everything about this episode was on target with the very real racial inequality that continues today. It is a concern for everyone in the community, regardless of their race, gender, wealth, etc.

I am glad this serious topic was addressed in a comedy. If inequality is covered only in dramas, the message would not get to as many people.

Badly done
yaornw17 November 2020
OK this is supposed to be a comedy while I get the dialogue about race is important for people who work on the show and certainly race is a regular issue they deal with, the seriousness of the subject matter of this episode just didn't mix with comedy and made everything feel forced. In the end what we wound up with was a heavy handed, preachy treatise repeating everything that's already been said and left us without the laughs we need to heal and work through trying times. The series' worst episode. Poor start to a new season.

Well done. Thoughtful. Poignant.
melissayoungman-3120518 December 2020
I really, really appreciate the approach the writers and actors took with this episode. Through the decades (I can say that!), all the great comedies have not been afraid to tackle the issues of their day. Generally that requires some more seriousness and less comedy for an episode, and that's hardly a hardship.

It saddens me incredibly the number of people who supposedly watch this show who are against this episode. Maybe they're trolls and bots. Otherwise they're just sad, scared and overly sensitive.

Yikes!
ksduval18 November 2020
The entire concept of this show highlights the dynamics between neighbors of different races. I commend the show's attempt to address the issues of the day but in my opinion, this was a big miss. I'm a fan of most of these cast members but, frankly, none of them have the acting chops to pull this off. The dialogue, too, was predictable and hokey- making it even harder for comedy actors to muddle through.

I loved this show tonight.
kimmywsmith-635-27601217 November 2020
If we can't talk about it, then we can't understand it. This was a beautiful way of handling the situations so many of the viewers face. I wish that more people could see that even if it doesn't affect you; it should.

THANK YOU for acknowledging the times that we're in.
Shar567817 November 2020
This show was created with built-in conflict over race. It would have been a disservice *not* to address BLM, as others are criticizing. While we all know it's a comedy, I appreciate the effort to remind us that these 2D onscreen characters represent *real* 3D people in society. If people are shallowly only looking for laughs, that is their issue. BBT had its somber moments. So did FRIENDS, CHEERS, FRASIER, WILL & GRACE, MODERN FAMILY, etc. ALL comedies anchor characters with heart, so I commend Jim Reynolds, writing staff, and CBS for "going there" to give voice to a point of view that is usually (and historically) dismissed.

And since next week's episode title mentions the Election, I'm guessing more "real life" will get sprinkled in. Lol. Bring it on! 22 minutes of sitcom treatment is SO much easier to stomach than the divisive reality out there. =) Carry on, folks! (fistbump)

Excellent and Poignant
JayBaseball30 November 2020
The above viewer who said it was Badly Done" must have the same views as good old Archie Bunker. This episode was a good teaching tool compared to the mostly trash on network shows lately. The continued mentioning of how racism affects us helps us understand the right way we should behave.

Season 3 forgot they were a comedy
Jaxson199418 November 2020
Me and my wife loves this show but we couldn't even finish the first episode of the new season. We might as well have been watching CNN highlights. Systematic Racism? Check. Black lives matter? Check. Innocent black guy and evil cops? Check and check.

The show forgot about trying to be funny and decided to reinforce unaccountability and redirecting blame. All cops are bad! I'm sorry, most cops are bad, there are a few good ones we told.

If the next episode continues this, I think we're done.

It's not politics it's about Black Lives Matter
nrupcich7 December 2020
For all the Trumper thumpers purposely coming on here to 1 star this episode show exactly how narrow selfish minded they are. Waghhh waghhh white cops are being victimized as killer of black people, well too bad if it hurts your snowflake feelings. Cops are killing innocent black people. They do profile black people. White people do have "White privilege" and you know how I know... I'm white!

Nothing in this episode was siding with anyone in politics. Not one mention of it in the episode. It's an episode shedding light on an ongoing issue in the USA with a side of comedy.

Too much woke, not enough funny
ejrlogins17 November 2020
If I am watching a comedy, to relax and escape, I don't want to see the news headlines forced upon me, unless it is really funny. The Conners have so far pulled that off with regard to the pandemic. I was really looking forward to the return of this show, as it is one of my favorites, but it is not off to a good start. Please don't preach to me , especially not in a screechy tone. If you have a message, wrap it up nicely, like Star Trek does. Or maybe deal with it like some of the old CBS classics, All in the Family, The Jeffersons, and Maude. Here the dialog was really bad, flat and sucker punched you with messaging. It was almost all message (one I don't generally accept, although I recognize that there are bad eggs) and almost no jokes. I found myself yelling at the screen. I was hoping for a big joke at the end, which would have calmed me from my yelling, but, alas, that completely failed to materialize. One or two more such episodes and I will be done with this show.

This was an emotional, impactful and inspiring episode, which somehow still had plenty of laughs despite the serious topics covered. Thank you for talking about these issues.

Worst episode yet

Normally I like this show but now a extreme left propaganda episode against the blue. Awesome. CBS I guess doesn't want any ratings for their shows.

This is suppose to be a comedy and like the rest of Hollywood it is pandering hate against one group of people without having all the facts.

Ugh
jenniferhubbard-4903217 November 2020
We come to sitcoms for comedy and for an escape from the issues that plague our society. The way this episode approached police-brutality and protesting was cringe-worthy. I couldn't even finish watching the episode. I'm not done with the series yet, because the previous seasons were entertaining, but I hope the producers didn't turn this sitcom's season into a drama.

Where is the Comedy
haggistech18 November 2020
I used to really love this show but when they started preaching on about the police being against people of other than white backgrounds it just was not funny anymore. we hear enough about the crap going on in the world in the news without it appearing on comedy shows

So woke, so brave
JuanSolo029 April 2021
I was waiting for the episode where it got so political and began pushing politics. Surprisingly it had been very tame so far, until this episode.

Absolute garbage episode, forgetting they're a sitcom! Hopefully we don't see another super woke episode.

My support for all serving police officers in such a difficult time. Most of you do a fantastic job!

Tac Nukes Are More Subtle
jamaisj-838-9373220 November 2020
This show has been marginal at best, but this episode was pretty weak. While I appreciate that a comedy series can be serious, it helps if it actual has fun with the concept. There is nothing fun about this and all it does is exploits black victimization.

While it's an important point to make, this is not how you do it. This may actually make the situation worse.

Politics ruin everything
gump1000023 November 2020
This was one of the funniest shows on tv, until it went political. Why do sitcoms do this? Your job is to be funny! Make fun of things! Don't make political statements! Never watching again.

Swing and a hard miss. But I appreciate that they tried
grlym-4684923 November 2020
The season 1 episode is was masterful. Infused humour to soften the hard issue of cultures not understanding eachother. Both sides has stereotypes of the other. But the show offered a balance of learning the other side to meet in the middle

The show started turning quickly into like so many shows before it. Where white people are bad and the white people that are "liked" as a way to send the message are dim witted and the goat if all jokes. That in and of themselves are racist.

I love the episodes that strike a balance to educate why different cultures misunderstand eachother and find common ground. Even if it's that the understand that they just see life different. But respect eachother nonetheless. And comedy offered to be the medium to gently tell this narrative

This episode was zero comedy except weak jokes and the white people are stupid. I applaud the show for trying to pull real life into the narrative to teach. Much like the show "mixed". However, this felt so one sided and manipulative. I was open to new info to educate my mind from both white and black peoples experiences. But little to none was offered.

I hope the show gets back to its roots of comedic medium to help us soften our edges so that we open our minds to different perspectives. RATHER than perpetuating tired racist stereotypes for one side of the audience. Come on. Be responsible and help bring us together, not rub raw nerves during one of the hardest years in many that have passed as of late
