This was a pretty good episode. But what really sealed the deal was Jason Mantzoucus as Steelbeak

Fantastic episode

Warning: Spoilers
The episodes start with Dewey and Launchpad acting as spies. This was all a VR game. Launchpad seemed even more dumb than usual and for the first part this disappointed me. Until the twist and the touching insight from Launchpad were revealed.

Scrooge was there to pick them up up from this arcade. Dewey begs to play once more and Webbigail, as usual, distracts Scrooge and brings him to the classic arcade room.

Meanwhile it's revealed that F.O.W.L actually has has a lair. Steelbeak is also there as her muscle. They are are warned by Director Buzzards them that Scrooge is there and they need to get him out of there.

I'm not sure how Black Heron's plan to have Steelbeak kill Dewey and Launchpad would get him out of there. Then again even the smartest villains make horrible plans. Black Heron is trying to change a smart Ray into a stupid Ray and remove the threat of Scrooge by using the Ray on him. I was delighted to see her use the smart Ray on a mouse who turns out to be Gadget from Chip N Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Steelbeak follows Launchpad and Dewey into the VR game and attacks them there. The two constantly think this is part of the simulation as the VR makes it appear that they are still in the simulation while from Steelbeak's perspective they are fighting thought the arcade. Dewy and Launchpad end up falling in the ball pip, which they fall through until the end up in a glass tube with Steelbeak standing over them. He knocks them unconscious.

Meanwhile,Webbigail convince Scrooge to play skeeball that has a gold prospector tell him he won 100 points and received tickets. Scrooge becomes immediately obsessed. He can't stop playing, falls back into his pile of tickets, does an angel in snow move, and won't let the clerk count them with a deranged look like the clerk will steal his tickets.

Dewey and Launchpad wake in clear cells with air holes. In Launchpad's cell appears some junk among which is a rubber band. He sees in front his cell a board with a button cell release. He picks up a rubber band. After several attempts at trying to shoot the rubber band, he tries to think of another solution. The entire Rescue Rangers enter his cell and rebuilds their iconic airplane. They try to lift off but it won't fly more than a couple inches. Launchpad helps them life off and they fire at the console and open the cell doors. Dewey thinks that launchpad created the ship and taught mice to fly it when he says he did.

Black Heron is testing the ray ray on two henchmen who are changed from being able to figure a Rubik's cube to chewing on them like a baby with a teether. Steelbeak returns and Black Heron found out he captured Dewey and Launchpad, and was upset he didn't eliminate them as she said. Steelbeak and Black Heron head to the cells when Black Heron calls him stupid one time too many and shoot her with the Ray. He decides to take charge now. He runs into the escaping Dewey and Launchpad. During the fight he loses the gun and it switches back to smart. He fires at Dewey and Launchpad leaps in front of him. Dewey thinks he lost his last life and is carried away by Steelbeak.

Launchpad wakes up and the spy version of him says he will take over in his mind before he wakes up. He then finds quickly finds F.O.W.L. is behind this and where Dewey was. He decides to save Dewey. Steelbeak is in a speed boat and Launchpad gives chase in another. Dewey still believes this is the VR. Launchpad tries to warm him but the water drowns Launchpad out. Eventually, Launchpad crashes and with makeshift skis and grappler he is able to ski behind Steelbeak's boat. Steelbeak cuts the line and we are seeing him head to the last base he mentioned earlier, a sat-lighthouse.

Stealbeak activates the satellite transmitter at the top of the lighthouse and puts the ray gun into. Launchpad swims underwater and confronts him as he is preparing to fire. They fight and as Launchpad thinks he will lose, the Rescue Rangers fly in with theme music in the background and knocks Steelbeak off the satellite into the bay. They fly off as Launchpad thanks them for the rescue.

Launchpad tries to stop the satellite but couldn't so he thinks only sacrificing his new smarts can he save the city of Duckburg. But he hesitates upset of what he will lose. Dewey asks him why is overthinking this and Launchpad responds that he wants to be good enough for Dewey. He responds that he is good enough for him. He was Dewey's best friend. With that Launchpad sacrifices himself. As he falls towards the pay, Dewey leaps after him and hugs him as they fall.

The wake up in front of the VR game. The spy part of tells him to earn Scrooge about F.O.W.L. which comes out as I like purple. In Director Buzzards office he is chewing out Black Heron and Steelbeak. He says what did I say? No intelligence Ray's, no freeze Ray's, no Ray's!

My favorite parts were the Rescue Rangers cameos, smart Launchpad and the insecurity he felt though out the story like telling Dewey to try the VR again on his own. While the Scrooge addiction was by far the worst part, the scenes were very brief.

My favorite episode of my favorite cartoon

This episode has it all: mystery, intrigue, ski ball. The humor was spot on. The bad guy was a perfect update. Launchpad really steals the show once again.

James Bond vs Steel Beak
giannisvrach25 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
An excellent episode with a James bond atmosphere and music with stable storytelling and music.

Best things in this episode:

-Smart tuxedo Launchpad and his sacrifice.
  • James Bond style music.
  • Steelbeak which was one of the best James Bond villains we have ever seen.
  • The general character and aura of the episode.

The Rescue Rangers cameo, contrary to the Goofy cameo of the previous episode, did not impress me since I was never a fan.

Dewey and Launchpad have some very funny moments, but as a whole I found the the rest of the main story and the subplot to be so-so.
