- Jesse decides to confront the couple who ripped off Skinny Pete. Jesse gets the address of the couple who ripped off Skinny Pete and goes to their dilapidated house. The house appears empty and is in a bad shape both outside and inside. Upon breaking inside, he finds and tends to their young, neglected son. The young boy is positively filthy and hasn't had a bath in weeks. He stinks all over. Jesse gets him some food as he is also hungry. When the couple returns home, Jesse holds them up and demands that they return his Meth and his money. They give him part of the Meth, claiming to have lost the other portion, and show him an ATM they have stolen from a convenience store. Spooge claims that stealing an ATM is a victim-less crime, as the money is insured. In reality, the couple shot and killed the store clerk on their way out.
The husband, Spooge (David Ury), works unsuccessfully to open the ATM. After several hours of effort, Spooge falls asleep right next to the ATM machine. While Jesse is busy playing with the son, the wife (Dale Dickey) knocks him unconscious, stealing his gun and drugs. Jesse wakes up to see Spooge trying to open the ATM from the bottom. His wife, angry that he keeps calling her a "skank", knocks the ATM over, crushing him; she then takes his drugs and gets high on the couch. Jesse hurriedly takes back the gun, takes what money he can when the ATM pops open, and calls 9-1-1. He then brings the boy out of the house, tells him not to go back inside, and runs away.
On his first day back teaching after finishing chemotherapy, Walt teaches his class about Dr. Tracy Hall, the inventor of synthetic diamonds, who only earned a pittance for his invention while General Electric made an incalculable profit. Walt's story starts to unravel when Skyler gets a call from Gretchen Schwartz (Jessica Hecht) and Skyler thanks her for paying for Walt's treatment. Gretchen doesn't reveal the truth to Skyler. Skyler invites Gretchen for lunch, and she agrees for that afternoon.
Walter returns home from school to find that Gretchen is at home. When Gretchen starts to leave, Walter offers to walk her to her car. Walter asks Gretchen not to say anything to anyone till they have had the chance to talk. Gretchen drives away without saying anything.
Walter meets Gretchen at lunch at a fancy restaurant. Walt asks Gretchen if Skyler told her anything; she does not answer. Gretchen wants to know that if Insurance is not covering his treatment, then how exactly he is paying for it. Walter asks Gretchen not to reveal the truth to his family or Elliot. Walter tells Gretchen that he will tell his family in his own way and in his own time. And asks Gretchen to keep out of his matters. Walter apologizes to Gretchen for lying, but she is not willing to let the matter go, as he lied to Gretchen, Elliot, as well as his own family.
Walt's bitterness at their past relationship-personal and business-comes out. Walter believes that Gretchen and Elliot cut him out of the fruits of his R&D and the millions they made off it. Gretchen says that it was Walter who walked away and leaves.
Skyler tells Walter later that night that Gretchen called and told her that Elliot and she cannot pay for Walter's treatment anymore. Walter lies to Skyler again and says that Gretchen told her that they are broke and hence can't support Walter anymore.
Jesse recovers the Meth and cash from the ATM, calls the police and flees the scene.
