- A boy with an indestructible passion and a madcap curiosity for sciences embarks his long journey from a war-stricken tiny Kurdish village in Southeast Turkey (Diyarbakir, Lice) to the war ravaged Germany during World War II to study medicine, and becomes the founder of micro-neurosurgery. Prof. Gazi Yasargil (b. 1924) treated epilepsy and brain tumors with instruments of his own design. In 1999 he was honored as "Neurosurgery's Man of the Century 1950-1999" at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. Yasargil earned a reputation for surgical dexterity and skill in developing tools to further his techniques, including the floating microscope, the self-retaining adjustable re-tractor, and ergonomic aneurysm clips and appliers, as well as various micro-surgical instruments. With these innovations, he transformed surgical practice and outcomes, in many cases presenting options for patients who had previously been considered inoperable.

Motivation and encouragement, which drive humanity forward, unifying, emboldening us, lie in those stories. Prof Gazi Yasargil has not hesitated to persevere his arduous odyssey. This is the story of his extraordinary, unrelenting, passionate, quest for scientific greatness. He shyly tells the summits, he excelled, and achievements , he reached with a humility of a sagacious philosopher.
