Glsen, the leading education organization working to create safe and inclusive K-12 schools for Lgbtq youth, will honor the cast and creative team of Pose with the Champion Award during the 2019 Glsen Respect Awards – New York, on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Cipriani 42nd Street.
“It is rare that a television program changes society, but that is exactly what Pose has done,” said Eliza Byard, Executive Director of Glsen. “Pose rightly places transgender and Lgbtq people of color at the center of the story, providing younger generations with a corrective, compelling, and utterly enthralling narrative of both Lgbtq history and the history of the nation.”
Golden Globe nominated Pose is a drama series that explores life and society in 1980s New York, and centers on the lives and stories of transgender people of color and Lgbtq people of color within the ball culture world, the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, and...

As season 3 of Narcos opens, the 1990s are in full swing. A salt and pepper Bill and a fresh-faced Hillary are settling into Washington and they’ve got one less narco trafficker to worry about. Pablo Escobar is dead. After 20 episodes of Wagner Moura sashaying around in badly-fitting denim jeans, Narcos’ antihero has been expended. But where to from here?
Where to? Untold levels of brilliance, that’s where. Premiering on September 1st, this new 10-episode installment of the hit Netflix show is television at its finest and it’s liberated by Escobar’s death. Shuffling around in his denim jeans and granddad jersey straining against his paunch, Moura was brilliant as the charismatic king of Medellin, but season 2 became claustrophobic and drawn out in its focus of Escobar and his capture. By comparison, season 3 is an ensemble piece that lets the audience breathe and to my mind, it’s...

The story of Frank Abegnale Jr., the Us’s most accomplished conman, went on to become Catch Me If You Can, a popular film starring Tom Hanks and Leonardo DeCaprio and a Broadway musical. It’s only fair then that Marcelo da Rocha, one of Brazil’s most prodigious con men, should get a film based on his life. However, Catch Me If You Can delves less into the compulsion that pushes Frank to keep scamming, VIPs takes the element heavily into consideration. It gives the film a much sharper emotional edge, and Wagner Moura’s turn as Marcelo helps to push the story with substantial character development. As he adopts new personae to keep ahead of the authorities who begin to notice his face popping up under different names, is he running for his own sake and the identity crisis his father left him with? Or is he running...
