When Goren and Gray are talking in the interrogation room, they start speaking in German (and for some reason the subtitles are in German too). Goren starts off by saying, "das warst du...nicht war?," which translates to "that was you..wasn't it?" Gray responds, "das war ich, genau," which means "that was me exactly."
Prussia had existed as either a nation-state or a sovereign country in one form or another since the 16th century. It started off in 1525 as a state of Germany; it quickly grew to become the most prominent state in the country, and the seat of power was located there. In 1871, the German states united and formed the German Empire (formally known as the Kingdom of Prussia). Prussia became the largest state and the capitol of the Empire, and the German monarchy ruled from there. When the German Empire came to an end in 1918 after loosing World War I, Prussia once again was made a state of Germany, technically a nation-state that was known as the Free State of Prussia. As the Nazi party came to power in the 1930's, Prussia quickly lost its status as a nation state. In 1932 the Third Reich issued a decree transferring all of Prussia's remaining governmental powers to Berlin, effectively ending its 400-year reign as the location of the seat of power for Germany. After the end of World War II, the Western allies permanently dissolved the state of Prussia, and it ceased to exist in 1946. Most of the former territory of Western Prussia fell under Soviet control during the Cold War and became East Germany; the territories of Eastern Prussia were handed over to Poland by the allies in the Treaty of Potsdam in 1945.
