- Dexter and Miguel's friendship becomes strained even as Rita confronts Miguel about his suspected infidelity; Debra searches furiously for Anton when it's revealed that he was abducted by the Skinner.
- The episode begins the morning after Dexter and Prado's first tag-team murder. A despondent Sil shows up at Dexter and Rita's place wanting to know whether Prado's story that he was out with Dexter is true. Dexter confirms they were together but the stories don't mesh when Dexter says he got home at midnight and Sil says Prado returned home at dawn.
A worried Dexter goes to see Prado, who tells him was so wired after the killing he went to a bar and stayed until daylight. Dexter knows the place and remembers to himself that it closes at 2 a.m. Is Prado lying to him?
We cut to Anton's apartment, where a near-frantic Debra is looking for evidence related to her new boyfriend's likely encounter with the skinner. Using evidence near the complex's trash dumpster, Agel, Dexter and Quinn help Debra determine that Anton likely struggled with the skinner near the dumpster, hit his head on a nearby wall and was thrown into a car. The group feels the must get in contact with George King, the tree-trimming supervisor and top skinner suspect. Angel gets on the horn to get a warrant while Quinn and Debra go to watch King's house.
The next scene change is a biggie: We see a partially-skinned Anton sitting in a chair pleaded for his life as . . . King stands over him with a horrifyingly huge knife. Still looking for Freebo, King tells Anton he has one hour left before he starts cutting again and that Anton should use to the time to consider "the skin you have left to lose."
When Dexter gets to the office he hears Maria leaving a voicemail for Wolf, who missed a hearing that morning. Dexter's father shows up representing Dexter's concern, pointing out that Prado was unaccounted for the night before and now Wolf is missing.
After we see Debra break into King's garage pre-warrant (nothing there), Dexter calls a very chipper Prado. Prado tells him his morning hearing was continued and that he has a few more "projects" he'd like to discuss with Dexter. The office is buzzing with the Anton case, with even Maria pitching in to help question Mario, the King employee who was particularly scared of his boss.
A calm King arrives at his home, claiming to have been working all night as Debra and Quinn show him the warrant and take him to the station for questioning.
Dexter watches some of Maria's interrogation of Mario, recognizing genuine fear as he discusses King. Debra and Quinn don't get anywhere in their questioning of King and Dexter suggests to Debra she try a more deferential approach.
After Maria tells him she hasn't heard from Wolf, Dexter goes to the attorney's home/office. Though her car is in the driveway there is no sign of the woman, and Dexer finds traces of blood on her desk. Via another 'conversation' with Harry, Dexter remembers he once told Prado a good place to hide bodies is underneath freshly dug graves.
Hoping to find Sil, Prado arrives at an open house Rita is helping with. He swears to her that he is not having an affair and is open to her assistance in repairing his marriage.
Debra completely loses it with King, jumping on top of the unfazed suspect and demanding answers before Quinn comes into the interrogation room and tells her to leave. This leads to an emotional encounter between Debra and Quinn, during which each admits to making mistakes which lead to Anton's capture.
Dexter goes to a local cemetery and is stunned to find Wolf's body at the bottom of one. "Miguel really did it," Dexter thinks to himself, "And I taught him how." Harry is on the scene when Dexter pops out of the grave, saying that Prado is making his own decisions now and "there will be plenty more where Ellen (Wolf) came from." "No there won't," is Dexter's ominous reply before calling Prado and asking him to have lunch.
During lunch Prado apologizes for not telling Dexter about killing Wolf. He does not, however, feel guilty about the murder (claiming their definition of innocent is different) and Prado does not promise there won't be any more solo "projects." "He thinks he's untouchable," Dexter thinks to himself after Prado leaves the table. "He's not. It's time he learned that." We see Dexter return to the cemetery and hop into the grave where Wolf is buried.
With the interrogation going nowhere, Maria asks Prado for more time with King in custody to help Anton. A call comes in that a new body has been found at the cemetery.
Dexter, Vince and Angel analyze Wolf's body, determining that she was hit in the head and stabbed three times. Vince says the body is clean, with Dexter's inner monologue confirming it was his doing and that Prado being caught is not part of the lesson hes hoping to teach. A distraught Maria arrives at the cometary, followed by Prado. Dexter confirms to Prado that this was a lesson about the code. Prado seems to agree that Dexter is correct, but uses eerily similar language to what he used with Rita after she criticized his failings as a husband. Dexter seems unsure whether or not to believe Prado.
Dexter arrives home and hears the story of Rita's interaction with Prado. Hearing Prado's word choice confirms for him that Prado has been lying, and Dexter wonder how far back the dishonestly goes. Thinking of the bloody shirt from Freebo's murder (A shirt with Freebo's blood on it which was supposedly Prado's pledge of trust), Dexter immediately leaves.
At the station Prado agrees to attempt an off-the-record bluff with King, to see if he will accept a deal. Prado enters the interrogation room and turns off the camera, but when he comes out says they have to let King go. Dexter arrives with Prado's Freebo shirt and tests it.
With King now on the streets, Debra devises a plan to trick Mario and has the trees near his home trimmed. Thinking King may now be out to get him and his family, Mario tells Debra of a secret building King rents using cash.
Debra and Quinn pull up to the building just as King was putting his key into the lock. Though King manages to sneak off, they find Anton still alive inside.
As Dexter awaits the blood test results from the shirt, Prado goes into Maria's office and comforts her. Dexter finds out the blood on Prado's shirt came from a cow. "I didnt create a monster," he thinks to himself. "I was used by one. He used me." Dexter has a fantasy where he destroys the office in a fit of rage. In real life, Prado sticks his head in the door and asks Dexter if he wants to play golf the following day.
As he watches Prado leave the office, Dexter ends the show with this inner monologue: "Today I keep up the pretense. But soon, maybe tomorrow, Prado will know exactly how I feel. Because finally there's an emotion I dont have to fake. Today, I feel something real."
