A labor of love.. and "I'm the most Asian"
PudgyPandaMan18 July 2008
Jon decides to cook a traditional Korean dinner for his family. He is going to cook Pulkogi (Asian BBQ beef), Chinese fried rice , kimchi (spicy peppered cabbage, and mochi for dessert.

Jon starts by taking 2 of the sextuplets with him to the Asian grocery store. The kids get to take turns running errands with the parents in sets of 2. The kids keep track of whose turn it is. This time it's Joel and Alexis' turn.

It irritates Kate to no end that Jon is in HER kitchen. She says it is the only room in the house she can have to herself. She thinks Jon takes way to long to prepare everything. She says "it took him one hour to chop an onion. At this rate it will take 3 weeks to do the fried rice." Jon says you have to follow the recipe exactly, it has to be perfect. Kate says a real cook doesn't have to use a recipe! What an insult. I'd just be happy that my husband was cooking for the whole family!! Jon explains his heritage - his dad was American with a French & Welsh background - blonde hair and blue eyes. Jon says " a total white dude; a north Philadelphia white dude!" His mom was raised in Hawaii by 2 Korean parents. So He has Korean, Hawaiian and American influences in his upbringing.

He says his grandma cooks Korean for the kids all the time so they are used to the spicy foods. They show the kids eating hot wasabi peas - it's adorable to watch their faces as the heat kicks in! Kate is still complaining how long it is taking Jon to cook. She says "if I cooked like that for 10 people, we'd eat once a week." The latter part of the show is discussing how the kids argue over who is the "Asianest" kid in the family. Mady says "I'M the most Asianest person in the whole family, except for daddy!". Kate says they argue in the car all the time who is Asian and who isn't, which always concludes that she and Alexis are the only non-Asians. "Which of course isn't true." Alexis wants to know if Mickey mouse is "Agean"? They so no, he's a mouse. She says "An Agean mouse?" Jon says "No, just a plain ole mouse... with red underpants!" Too funny!

At the end, Jon and Kate talk about how family recipes get passed on and on, down through generations, She gets misty thinking about the kids calling when they are grown, asking for a family recipe to fix for their kids! Then you here all the kids at the table saying "Thank you Daddy!" How precious!
