I can see this show is so personal. Either you hate it or love it. I love it so much that I think a little bit of me died with Jonas and Martha. :(

You and I are perfect for each other, Never believe anything else
debanikdeb30 June 2020
Though I have watched plenty of films & tv series this is my first review on IMDB. I just wanted to say this is one of the greatest finale I'be ever seen, beside Mr. Robot, Breaking Bad & The Wire. Every stone touched & evwry lottle thing explained, every character building developed perfectly & every character arc gets their perfect ending.

The reason I am writing this review is because I feel sad after the ending for Jonas & Martha. Somehow I got connected to Jonas & his suffering on emotional level. They truely are perfect for each other. & this is their perfect ending.

Thank you Baran Bo Odar.

The end can be the beginning 😵
khanosama-9536027 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The writers left the ending to the viewer's imagination. There is still a possibility of new kind of cycle starting with the birth of jonas also with power plant still around and deja Hannah is getting. OR It all really has ended and Knott is broken. The cycle will never start and Winden will have a normal life. They have answered all the questions and show us sequence of events from 1888 to 2053 in a perfect way. Boris and Wohler still remained mysterious but may be this is also a part of open end. 7th episode being the best episode clearing all the answers. I have few questions related to 6th episode but will clear it on re-watch. Claudia proving to be MVP with emotional ends for Jonas and Martha. Overall the series was the MASTERPIECE and once in the lifetime experience. We can watch it again and again and it will still never fail to surprise us 🖤

The beginning is the end. The end is the beginning. And now everything came to an end. Our way of thinking is shaped by dualism. Entrance, Exit. Black, White. Good, Evil. Everything appears as opposite pairs. But that's wrong. Nothing is complete without a THIRD dimension. There isn't only up and down. There is a centre too.

All the efforts of jonas and martha were only to erase their existence from the world. Brought tear into my eyes when jonas said for the last time "we are perfect for each other. Never believe anything else"

The Zenith of television entertainment, but what about Woeller's eye?
mattoid-456053 July 2020
What can I say that hasn't already been said. Hands down THE best show ever written. Breaking Bad, Deadwood, The Wire, Sopranos, all great and groundbreaking shows but Dark opens your mind to all kinds of possibilities. I doubt there will be anything soon that can match or surpass it. The main problem is WTH AM I SUPPOSED TO WATCH NOW!!!!!

The perfect finale to a work of art
tgross-9235128 July 2020
This series does everything perfectly and the ending is no exception. It wraps the entire series up into a perfect paradox that makes the viewer feel like what happened in Jonas' world could be the reality of ours and has the same kind of feeling as Inception does. Like other comments have said, this is a masterpiece.

It is clear that the writers had the entire series in mind when they started season one, which makes for a perfect finale. It would be great if more series were designed with the precision that Dark clearly was. From the perfect loops that tie everything together, to the hidden foreshadowing in the first seasons, to the interesting allusions, this series is definitely worth watching... twice

The Perfect Ending
cdiaz071829 June 2020
After the final season of Dark, I firmly believe that this show is one of the best if not THE best show I have ever seen. Severely underrated.

The writers of the show create many stories that all intertwine in one way or another. They had one task for its final season - to answer all the questions it made us ask throughout the first two seasons. And it did it perfectly.

It's intelligence, beauty, and creativity make it a show worth watching. I personally believe the ending they chose is the only ending they could've pulled in order to suffice a satisfying conclusion.

If you have not watched it please do yourself a favor and binge this show!

Did I miss something?
erikasalgado-9435629 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Until this day, I have never felt compelled to create an IMDb account. Whenever I read the reviews for any tv show or movie, I always felt that at least one expressed in some way what I was feeling. This was the exception.

I've been a passionate fan of the show since the first season and, like most fans, I've spent the last few days reading every theory and binge watching every episode. People were saying this was the best series finale of any show in the last decade, which leads me to my question: did I miss something?

I wanted to like the ending as much as everyone did, but I simply couldn't. And I was shocked to read the reviews and find out that not one single person shared my opinion. Don't get me wrong, I still think it's a great show, and the ending was not a complete disaster, but masterpiece? Best finale of all time? I really don't get it.

First of all, anyone who's watched Dark knows it's an incredibly complex show. I think in some ways that makes it easier for people to forgive plot holes that in other shows wouldn't go unnoticed. Throughout the series, many questions were raised and, in my opinion, weren't satisfactorily explained (for example: why did they have to kill all the boys in 1986/2019, when they already had other ways to time travel? Why did Egon go save Hannah during the apocalypse in world 2, and what happened to them afterwards? Those are just some examples, I could go on and on).

That being said, this wasn't my main problem with the finale. The whole reason I was not satisfied at all and do not understand why people loved it so much is based on 3 points:

1. Claudia finally being able to break the cycle makes absolutely no sense, and there is no way she could've figured it all out on her own. If everything ALWAYS happens the exact same way, then how could she have possibly figured everything out in this cycle and not in the ones before? And how could she have known that it was Tannhaus' fault? I can even believe that she eventually deduced that there must be a third world, but there is no way she would have known for sure it was Tannhaus, when a number of things (like a nuclear accident) could've started this whole thing, and she never visited the original world to know for sure. Also, I really didn't care for the solution itself, since it was never hinted that Tannhaus had another family until this season, and it felt like it was just thrown in there and had no connection to the rest of the story.

2. What was the point of the "infinite" and why was he so relevant to the story? For me, his character was added just to create suspense, and what they actually showed wasn't enough to justify his relevance to the story. In the end, all he did was make sure the accident happened and have a relationship with Agnes (which wasn't show on screen, and was also disappointing in my opinion), thus making Tronte and starting the cycle. In the end, I felt that he played a very small part in maintaining the cycle (Claudia was much more relevant, she was the one making sure that things would happen as they should), so his character felt like a huge disappointment.

3. That last scene. This right here is what spoiled it for me. Maybe I really did miss something, and there is a reasonable way to justify how Claudia was able to break the cycle and figure it out. Maybe the infinite not doing all that much wasn't a problem. But the last scene... Honestly, I would've preferred it if they ended with Jonas/Martha and everyone else disappearing. It just felt like a huge disappointment to learn that, in the end, all of this was to make sure that Hannah (who was a horrible person and probably the one of the least deserving of a happy ending), Peter, Regina and a few other characters that no one really cares about could exist? Don't get me wrong, I wasn't expecting a fairy tale ending (Breaking Bad takes the cake for best series finale for me, and anyone who's watched it knows it's not exactly a happy ending), but this just felt pointless and unsatisfactory. Though I wasn't satisfied with the ending, I still think that Dark deserves a lot of praise. It's an unique and amazing show, and I believe will be regarded as one of the best sci-fi shows ever made.

Abandons the main theme of the show
jvstater30 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is apparently an unpopular opinion right now, so I feel compelled to mention that I rated this finale so low precisely because of how brilliant the rest of this show was. The entirety of Seasons 1 and 2 were absolute masterpieces, and even some episodes in Season 3 (including episode 7, the one directly before this) were incredibly well done.

With that said, I found the ending unsatisfying. I could go on about the loose ends they left untied (Who was Boris Niewald really? How did Claudia finally find the glitch after trying infinite times?) or the underdeveloped story lines throughout Season 3 (the whole "second world" story line and especially "The Origin" character left a lot to be desired). However, the biggest failure of this episode in my opinion was the 180 it did on the show's overarching theme of fatalistic determinism.

Every episode before the finale highlights each character's lack of free will. No matter what the characters try to do, they can't alter the outcome of their lives. The events of the past, present, and future are set in stone to be repeated forever. "A man can do what he wills, but not will what he wills." Now, you're welcome to disagree with this perspective on life, but it is clear that the first 25 episodes of the show make this argument in an original way that causes the viewer to challenge their own notions of determinism and free will. The finale abandons that theme.

Satisfying endings are difficult to come by. I think sometimes even the most brilliant story tellers fail to grasp where their story is leading. Throughout Season 3 I hoped to god the show would end with the fatalistic completion and rebirth of the never-ending unchangeable cycle; not because it would be a happy ending, but because it's the ending the story deserved. Simply filling in the remaining gaps would have made this the epitome of brilliant story telling. Instead, this episode will leave a bad taste in my mouth for a long time.

This is pure nihilism... except it isn't.
briefexistance1 July 2020
I feel like I wanna cry of sadness, joy, question my existence, rethink my life choices, and so much more. This is the DEFINITIVE CLIMAX of television shows, my people. I don't even know where to start...

first of all, I've always known Germans are hopeless romantics, Göthe captivated me in high school and now DARK. This incredible ending shows us the biggest two dualities of life: love and death. Somehow, it manages to portray them beautifully and show that in the end, love is our primal motivation as human beings. Christopher Nolan already explored this idea in Interstellar, but OMG not even close the level of complexity, thesis, analysis and portrayal of this idea like dark. I find it beautiful that when you're gazing at the abyss, and the abyss is gazing back at you, if you do it FOR and WITH love, it doesn't matter how profoundly eternally dark the abyss is. I mean, HOW could they manage to success portray an idea profoundly complex and difficult to gasp? HOW could they show us maybe eternal darkness is not as bad as it could be?

Of course modern psychology gives us tools to let go of those archaic Romanticism ideals of "dying for love" and actually it never appealed to me before this idea, but Dark makes it so fking beautiful, they almost convince me. I cried so much after the end, because it's the XXI century representation of DYING for love in the most literal sense of words. Dying not like in your atoms will become part of the soil or the air like in natural death but I mean LITERALLY. Their atoms disintegrate, their parallel world is no longer existing. Tschüss. Bis niemals. Eternal Dunkelheit, aber vielleicht das ist nicht sehr schlecht.

Profoundly moving. I'm still paralyzed. My heart's still beating rapidly. Dark is a whole experience. A philosophical kick in the guts. A love letter to Nietzsche, maybe?

A demonstration of how the future affects the past
larriusyj4 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't normally write reviews, but, after realizing that Tannhaus succeeds in saving his son by inadvertedly creating the two engels who save him, my jaw dropped like it hasn't since Oberyn vs the Mountain. To me, the show is the author's demonstration of a thought experiment on how the future affects the past, and, of course, the genius, the atmosphere, the detail and the worldbuilding are there throughout all the seasons, not just the culmination. If there is ever anything that gets 10/10, its this.

The Ultimate End
biz133727 June 2020
Dark is not as big as other Netflix Shows, it's not as fancy or as appealing. It is heavy to watch. Both because of the tragedy and the complex things that happen. But they created the biggest time travel story of all time, yet you care so much about the People involved. I loved every seconds of it. It's too bad I can never relive this Show. Top 3 of all time. The ending was maybe the most beatiful thing i've ever saw on Television.

2020 a time Odyssey
rowdyram-8297427 June 2020
This is the masterpiece of our decade. Worth every minute of time we afford. Dark is a dream for writer to tell such a story spanning decades and varying locations and characters. The creators of the show the lucky to have the wisdom to complete such story and make it on to the screen with sheer brilliance. Congratulations!!!!!!

I cannot believe it. They wrapped it up perfectly.
sirharksalot30 June 2020
I was skeptical about this show, especially this season. It was all so convoluted that I did not think even the writers knew what they were doing. However, my worries were for naught, as this episode took the entire story and wrapped it up in an emotionally intelligent conclusion and my respect for this show has been elevated to new heights. Usually I do not give the 10/10 rating on this site, but this episode especially deserves it.

I feel that they ran out of time and hoped nobody would notice
thenilare6 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I don't really know how there's people who say this episode is a masterpiece or even the best finale of the decade. I really liked this series from the beginning. Until the end of season 2 it actually was a masterpiece. But then it all happened so fast. There are major plot holes and problems with this season. Don't get me wrong, there are really good episodes as "Life and Death" or "Between the time", but I personally felt really lost in other episodes as "Light and Shadow". I didn't like the major part of this season and especially the finale because of three main reasons:

1. Throughout the whole third season there were a lot of questions raised and you always had to keep track of which they were in order to find a solution later on. I found it really difficult to try to connect the dots. It was too much information to keep straight. I kept asking myself questions like: where was X character when this happened? Is X character aware that the other character is dead? How does the death of X character influence the other character? How much of the time travel does X character know? At least 15 characters play a major role in the knot and you have to keep track of all the things each did in the past in order to understand what happens in the present. Until season two, it was still manageable to keep track although they added the difficulty of characters travelling trough time and changing it. But when they introduced different worlds and realities I really lost it.

2. How the hell does Claudia manage to know that Tannhaus is the origin? Maybe she could have figured out that there's a third world but I really do not get how she managed to get so precise information on how to destroy the knot.

3. Last but not least, the finale doesn't make any sense. I don't understand how nobody is talking about this, but once Jonas and Martha break the knot by making Tannhaus' son return, they "erase" themselves from existence. This is a clear example of the Grandfather paradox: if you went back in time and killed your grandfather then you would erase yourself from existence. However, since you erased yourself, you don't go back in time to kill your grandfather and he lives. Therefore you do too. It's a loop, a paradox. The same happens in this finale. Jonas and Martha erase themselves by killing their origin, but at the same time, if they erase themselves, Tannhaus' son will be killed because they weren't there to stop it. And so Tannhaus would invent the time machine and create the knot.

Disappointed
jimmietee27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
26 episodes and we find out that the people That would never have existed somehow impact the timeline and it all is because of "Schrodingers Cat" which only goes to show the writers have no idea what is being explained in the Schrodingers Cat thought experiment.

Quite disappointing that the entire thing is "Magic".
