- Russian mobsters kidnap Wolfe and try to influence him to clear one of their associates who is a suspect in a robbery-homicide case.
- Currency exchange broker Ian Warner is shot in his home office. His safe was robbed, probably $2,000,000 in cash. The thief diluted the strongbox's marker die in the pool and base-jumped to a nearby roof. There a shred of Jim Colton's parachute is found. The Russian mob torturer demands Ryan 'fixes it' and kidnaps Sarnoff victim Mark Gantry's little boy Billy as 'incentive'. Ryan plant security guard Ben Porterson's fingerprint in the safe, not enough for an arrest. Mark panics and informs Horatio, who takes charge.—KGF Vissers
- Dawn. Glistening water. The Miami skyline. Ryan is unceremoniously thrown from the inside of an unmarked van. The CSI rolls to a stop on the street, looking like death warmed over. What happened? FLASHBACK! Ryan, tied to a chair, is beaten mercilessly by a masked man. "There is a certain robbery-homicide," the kidnapper says. "I want it to go away." Ryan refuses to cooperate. The masked man then threatens Billy, the young son of Ryan's friend, Mark Gantry. "I'll do whatever you want!" the CSI screams. Sure enough, Ryan returns home only to hear word of a robbery-murder. "An exchange broker was shot in his office on the 30th floor," says Ben Porterson, the security guard. But no one was spotted exiting the main floor. Cut to the roof, where an unidentified suspect LEAPS off the side of the building. Robbery, murder and base jumping -- just another day in Miami.
YEEE-OWWW! Cue opening credits! They won't be fooled again, those CSIs. No, no!
Back inside the building, Ryan is sweating bullets. Will he actually sabotage the case? It's looking that way as our boy sprinted up 30 flights of stairs to reach the crime scene before anyone else. Caine and Frank, in the meantime, interview Cynthia, the victim's personal assistant. She explains that the broker kept U.S currency in a locked safe -- about $2 million in all. Naturally, the safe is busted open and the cash is missing.
Back inside, Ryan stealthily pockets a shell casing without Calleigh or Natalia noticing. Eric, in the meantime, calls Dave, who has developed a computer simulation of the base jump. He transmits the projected area where the killer/ jumper would have landed. "Look for anything under three stories with a flat roof," Dave advises. Eric heads to just such a building and immediately notices a piece of the jumper's parachute. Bingo.
Montage time! Natalia examines the shred of fabric, eventually coming up with a name -- Jim Colton. Seconds later, Colton is in the hot seat. At the same time, Ryan gets a call on in his cell phone. "You have one of my men," says the heavily accented voice. "You better get them looking at someone else!" Ryan heads to the interrogation room and casually brings up the fact that the suspect works at a sporting goods store. Colton grins, saying his DNA probably got on the parachute at said store. Eric is furious at Ryan for practically handing Colton an excuse. "Get your head in the case!" he yells.
So Ryan does -- on his own terms. He examines a piece of the shirt he was wearing during the kidnapping. In a FLASHBACK, we see Ryan deliberately rubbing against the floor. Clearly, our boyish CSI is planning on conducting his own secret investigation. In the meantime, Ryan must throw his colleagues off the scent. Thus, he finds Porterson's fingerprints and attaches them to evidence removed from the crime scene. Moments later, Eric discovers Porterson's fingerprints and Caine has the innocent man arrested. Also, Caine agrees to let Colton go per Ryan's suggestion. It's the perfect crime, apparently.
Or maybe not. Mark Gantry shows up at CSI headquarters in a panic, demanding to hear news of his son. "Ryan told me Billy has been taken!" Mark explains to a Caine. Caine, glowering, wastes no time finding Ryan, who spills his guts. "The man who kidnapped me said if I didn't help in the Ian Warner investigation, they would kill that kid," Ryan says. He then explains that he found sucrose on his shirt -- probably from a sugar refinery. Ryan also promises to face "every review board" in existence once Billy Gantry is safe. "Leave it to me," Caine growls.
Calleigh, meanwhile, has discovered that Porterson's gun has never been fired. He couldn't have possibly killed the victim. What's more, the security guard confesses that he was busy making out with personal-assistant Cynthia while the office was being robbed. Did Cynthia seduce Porterson to distract him while a crime was happening? She says "no" when questioned by Calleigh. But she also demands a lawyer -- never a sign of a clean conscious in the world of CSI: Miami.
Cut to Caine, who examines security footage from Billy Gantry's school. Sure enough, he spies a white van pulling up in front o the school. Out of the van emerges a man, who snatches up the boy. Zooming in close, Caine gets a license plate number. He tracks the number to a Sweet Keys Sugar, Inc. -- a refinery! Caine then heads to the refinery to find Colton with a giant bag of money. In a FLASHBACK, we see Colton taking the money from the victim's safe and base jumping. "Where's the boy?" Caine growls.
Cut to Colton driving the white van into an alleyway next to a rundown building. Caine cuffs the man to the seat. "You stay quiet and live," Caine growls. "Understand?" The red-haired cop then heads inside, gun drawn. He spies a hefty well-dressed Russian about to shoot Billy. BANG! The Russian goes down instead. The boy is safe. "Mr. Wolfe, we're coming home," Caine tells Ryan via cell phone. Ryan collapses against the wall in relief -- and then heads to a nearby lab. He hands an angry Eric the shell casing from the crime scene. "Get out," Eric says. Ryan leaves, dejected. Prints on the shell casing are a 99-percent match to Cynthia. She did the killing while Colton did the robbing and fleeing. "Ian is my boss, but I work for others and they decided it was time for him to go," Cynthia explains. The woman then begins taunting the CSIs in Russian. No matter. She is going to jail.
Outside CSI headquarters, Ryan and Caine discuss the increasingly dangerous Russian situation. "H, they're trying to break us," Ryan says. Growls Caine: "I say bring it on."
