Finally
ctomvelu-17 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
During a suspenseful episode involving a haunted school and the big secret behind the building's original use, Melinda finally tells Jim/Sam that he is Jim and no longer Sam. In the previous episode, she told Jim about her visions. He accepted that but thinks she has gone off the deep end about him. I was pleased the writers did not have him readily accept her explanation as to his mental and emotional conflicts. Meanwhile, the haunted school proves to have been something much more sinister before it became a school, and Melinda must help a number of ghosts go into the light. You can probably guess what the school was previously, so I am not telling. A must-see episode in the series.

The Night Before the Day

Warning: Spoilers
This well-written and acted episode is the penultimate before Jim/Sam's final epiphany. The weaving together of two strands, both dealing with the question of sanity works very well.

First, the patients in a former asylum, controlled by a ghost doctor, who acts as a Svengali. This is particularly true for the woman who believes she was responsible for the death of her child. Her voyage to the Light requires strength and conviction on her part.

Then, the continuation of the Jim/Sam theme. Viewers are led to believe that his own recognition of the truth of his identity is finally assured. But the last scene dashes all hope, as he is convinced it is Melinda who is in need of psychiatric help. She is left telling him to leave, having given up on her own dream, while the same ghost doctor looks on.
