On winning the contract, the German Navy officers break into "Deutschlandlied" (Deutschland Über Alles). While technically in existence, the song would not be well known for another several years, and was not the national anthem for another 12 years after that. It would not be spontaneously sung in celebration by a group of German officers c. 1910.
