As I watched Captain Bones portrayed by Alexandra Queen, I was immediately drawn and almost put into a trance. The camera was focused on the character in her wonderfully crafted garment moving along a (eerie but) splendidly wonderful backdrop of a cemetery. We observe paraphernalia in the distance and one begins to wonder if these belonged to a person in distress. If so, what happened to the ill fated? As the audience starts to trace the character's movements through a trail of built up leaves, our senses start to build fear and we soon begin to realize signs that perhaps we should diffuse our curiosity but we are too absorbed in the moment and almost trapped in the character's mind, feelings and inquisitiveness.
We observe a bright day with rays of raw and natural ambient light finding its way through the busy trees which soon becomes withered and obstructed by the arched branches. The character is now accompanied by an overcast of dark shades of colours, gravestones and a book tenderly clutched in her hands. As she sits between split arched trees almost welcoming her in its entrapment, she is soundly followed by mistrustful noises after narrating an abandoned children's folktale.
This makes us wonder about our very own forgotten monsters which this film abruptly summons and the fears which was forgotten and locked away in the back of our minds. Captain Bones dictates that very moment that at one point our minds instilled dread, curiosity and even happiness in us all.
With Captain Bones I found a category of each style, the environment, intensity and strength of colours were all a perfect fitting for the character who perhaps was channeling her inner ghosts and struggles. Captain Bones built up my curiosity, it left me yearning for more and I think it would work well as a mini-series with a journey back in time theme. I felt it had the right dosage of ingredients for a next episode which could question your belief in reality from fantasy.
In summary we all can find something we look for in a film, art or music to put us in a certain condition or state through different styles of genres. Whether it is adrenaline to increase our breathing, comedy to uplift our spirits, drama to educate us, love to prepare our minds for intensity or action to stimulate our muscles. Alexandra Queen continuously provides us with interesting and different characters that sincerely portray a range of emotions, feelings and moods in the perfect environment and I look forward to viewing the next piece.
