Mary Alice tells us that Lynette can't remember the last time her family had breakfast together as we see Lynette lying in bed. So she hops up, makes waffles, and forces everyone to sit down saying that she and Tom think they can be better parents if they know what's going on in their kids' lives. Preston tries to get up but Lynette won't let him and he pleads with his dad to make him make her let him go. Tom asks anyone at the table who thinks he has the power to make Lynette do anything to raise their hand. No hands go up. Just as Lynette asks Parker about his science project the doorbell rings. It's the police who arrest Porter for the nightclub fire. (Based on Dave's tip.)
At the hospital, post-surgery Carlos is seeing light and fuzzy shapes. The doctor says it won't be long before his full sight returns.
Elsewhere in the hospital, Orson is getting a clean bill of health regarding his deviated septum surgery. The snoring is gone. They thank him and leave, but then Bree remembers she wants to give him a thank you note. As she's placing it on his desk she notices a picture of the doctor with his arms around Andrew. Cut to the Hodge kitchen where Bree is interrogating Andrew about the doctor. He says they've been living together for six months. (His name is Alex.) Bree can't believe he didn't tell her since the man's a doctor, Andrew's done better than she did! Orson complains at that. Andrew says she never seemed to want to know about his love life so he didn't tell her. Bree says she's going to rectify that, and invites the lovebirds over for dinner.
Mike and Katherine have come to pick up MJ for a trip to the zoo but MJ is mad and doesn't want Katherine to come. Susan and Mike eventually get him to agree but Susan too is put off when she sees Mike and Katherine holding hands.
At the police station Bob has offered to be Porter's lawyer. Porter tells him, Lynette, and Tom that he has an alibi: at the time of the fire he was breaking into Edie's house to get her gun in order to scare Schilling. When he got to the club it was on fire so he left and put the gun in Lynette's flour jar. He wonders if that helps. Lynette points out that since no one saw him it not only doesn't it help it's the admission of another crime.
Edie comes bounding out of her house, phone in hand breathlessly telling Dave that Porter has been arrested. Dave is unnerved saying "Poor Lynette." Edie begins to babble about what kind of pain it must be to watch your child arrested and how guilty she must feel that her son killed seven people, but Dave is distracted by a vision of a woman holding a child across the street. He gets so freaked out that he squeezes the long flourescent light bulb he's holding so hard that it breaks in his hand, causing it to bleed. Edie flips and drags him inside to clean up his hand.
Lynette, holding the flour-encrusted gun, is planning to simply sneak the gun back into Edie's house. Tom is not a fan of this plan and is freaked about what their family has begun. She explains that it won't take the sharpest cop on the force to figure out where to start looking if Edie reports the gun missing. Tom compliments Lynette on her cool head and calls her his rock.
Mike and MJ return early from the zoo as Katherine walks away trying to get hot fudge sundae out of her hair. MJ threw it at her. Susan's laughing at the image of the bowl hitting her head. MJ was angry after overhearing Mike and Katherine talking about spending Christmas together.
At the Solis house there's a party going on for Carlos. He's explaining what an angel Gaby's been to Susan and Bree when she yells at him telling him to put on his black out glasses. (His eyes aren't supposed to be exposed to light). He goes to grab them and knocks over a baseball. Susan picks it up and he says it was signed by Lou Gehrig. She looks at the signature-less ball and Gaby waves at her to play along. Carlos says it's been passed down in three generations of his family. Gaby freaks saying she thought it was just some stupid collector's item. He says no, that's why he wouldn't let her sell it when they were low on cash. Carlos walks away and Bree and Susan stare at Gaby. She says she did what she had to do, who knew Carlos would get his sight back? Susan asks who she sold it to. Gaby said some Italian guy. She says Mike's into baseball maybe he can get someone to track down "this Lou Gehrig guy and get him to sign a new one." Bree and Susan exchange the approporiate look.
Bob brings news of bail to Tom and Lynette. $20,000. Tom says they'll scrape it together from their emergency fund of $14,000 and Christmas club money of $800. Tom takes off to work and Lynette admits to Bob she gave the emergency fund money to Anne Schilling. He's a little surprised she used the money to bribe a witness to flee. Bob reminds Lynette that he's actually Porter's lawyer. The house is too mortgaged to be collateral so he says they'll have to use the restaurant. Lynette doesn't like it and agrees and tells Bob to keep it to himself as her lawyer. He tries to remind her that he's Porter's lawyer but she's not hearing it.
Gaby is pleading her case with the guy she sold the ball to. A woman is translating for him into Italian. He says no way. She begs. He and the woman talk in Italian. Gaby asks for a translation. The man wants to watch her dance on the table. Gaby refuses.
Lyentte goes to Dave and Edie's to "borrow a sweater." (I.E. return the gun). Edie's not home but Dave lets her in. As he does he sees the vision of the woman and child again. Lynette returns the gun and grabs the sweater. Dave is leaning against the door trying to wish the visions away, telling them that he'll come see them tomorrow and that he still loves them. Lynette sees this.
At the Hodge house appetizers are happening as everyone tries awkwardly to make conversation. Bree wants Alex and Andrew to know that she's comfortable with their lifestyle, telling them to scooch together and offering them strawberry daiquiris. Bree has also invited Bob and Lee. Lee is impressed with Alex's doctor-ness. They all shake hands and Lee and Bob wonder if they've met Alex before. Lee remembers something and quickly says it's his mistake. As everyone heads off to dinner Bob pulls Lee back and Lee whispers something to him (it looks like he's mouthing "the movie we saw") and Bob says "oh my god you're right it is him." Bree sees this exchange.
Gaby comes home to a crying Carlos who is embracing the girls. He's really beginning to see now- colors, shapes, the fireplace, the girls- and is overcome with joy. He wonders what happened to the painting they got in Greece. Gaby says she had to sell it to make the mortgage. He says it's just a thing and that what matters is he can see his family. Gaby says she's so relieved since she's been worried about stuff like that. He asks like what and she tells him about the baseball. He starts to get mad and she points out that it's just a thing. An important thing, he says, a family heirloom. He tells her he wants her to get the ball back.
Dinner is going well it seems, and Alex thanks her for dinner. He wonders if she caters weddings and Andrew kicks him under the table. They break the news that they're getting married. Everyone claps. Bree says she's going to handle everything and goes to hug Alex and she again notices Bob and Lee motioning towards Alex. Bob tells Lee to butt out. Bree goes to get pie and asks Bob and Lee to help her. In the kitchen she makes them spill. They think they saw him in an adult film, and by adult, they don't mean "complex and sophisticated." it was called "Rear Deployment," it was about soldiers. They liked it. They're sure. Bree can't believe it since he's a doctor. (I'm going to guess paying off medical school loans here.)
Edie is borrowing a corkscrew from Susan when Mike and Katherine arrive to take MJ bowling. Susan compliments Katherine's top but Katherine is cool in return saying Susan must be talking trash about her since she and MJ used to get along fine. Susan says she's not. Katherine is unconvinced. They leave and Edie observes that Susan may not be saying anything explicit but her body language toward Katherine is sending messages to MJ. She also notes that she finds this catfight between the two of them highly entertaining.
Porter is babysitting Penny in the park when Schilling arrives. He threatens Porter who stands up and says he didn't burn down the club and isn't going to jail. Schilling says he may wish was going to jail and basically gives him the when you least expect it speech, saying he could just poof, disappear. Porter looks stricken.
Susan has shown up at the bowling alley to send MJ the signal that they can all be one big happy family. It seems to be working as we watch MJ give Katherine a bowling lesson. As Mike and Susan watch he grabs her hand and says he can't believe how quickly MJ has grown. MJ notices this hand holding. He also notices that it stops when Katherine calls out for Mike's help with a split. MJ promptly drops his ball on Katherine's foot.
Bree arrives home to see Andrew working in the test kitchen. She hands him a copy of "Rear Deployment." He already knows, and Alex says it was the biggest mistake he ever made. And yup, it was to pay for med school. Andrew says he would appreciate if she didn't let on that she knew. She wonders why he's okay with it. He points out that they both know that he has an interesting past of his own. Glass houses, he points out. Not to mention the fact that Andrew loves him, very much. Andrew calls her meddling in his love life the nicest thing she's ever done for him. They hug. Bree is clearly troubled by this but ultimately accepts it.
Gaby returns to the Italian man's house and is ready to dance on the table.
Carlos is walking around the house seeing it with his new eyes. He notices how empty Gaby's closet and jewelry box are and realizes that she has in fact made sacrifices of her own. She returns and throws him the ball. She's limping.
Bob and Porter are entering court. Porter peels off as Bob approaches Lynette and Tom. He looks nervous. Bob says to give him a minute since he's nervous. Lynette narrows her eyes at him and says "that's because he's Preston." Tom and Lynette march over and Preston tells them Porter ran away and that Preston was supposed to give him a head start. Tom says he's not watching two of his kids go to jail, that they'll tell the judge and it's just money. Lynette can't believe it, says it's not just money, and instead of telling Tom she put up the restaurant for collateral she says to just trust her and forces Preston to go through with it.
Gaby is picking up laundry when she notices a pretty dress in the closet. Carlos appears and says he bought it for her. She says they can't afford it. He says he sold the baseball. He says she never told him that things had gotten so bad. She said he was blind and depressed and didn't want to add to his misery. He thanks her sincerely for taking such good care of them and that he will spend the rest of his life making it up to her. They hug.
Mike reports to Susan that Katherine's foot is pretty much okay but that it doesn't excuse what MJ did. They sit with MJ on the couch and Susan says it's okay with her that daddy and Katherine hang out. MJ says they can't be together since Mike and Susan are getting back together. He says that's what Susan said. After MJ runs upstairs Susan explains that about a month after Mike moved out MJ was crying so hard at bedtime that she said that they would get back together someday. She didn't think he would remember. Mike wonders how she could do that. She says because they've never actually looked each other in the eye and said there's no chance that they're getting back together. Mike says maybe they haven't but she's with Jackson and he's with Katherine and they've moved on. Susan wonders if they have and wonders if he ever thinks about it. He sighs and says he has to go check on Katherine.
Mary Alice tells us that it's an awful thing to live in darkness unable to see the things that other people take for granted. But if we are lucky, the darkness lifts and we can: finally see the secret sacrifices made by our wives (as we see Gaby model her new dress for Carlos); the surprising progress made by our mothers(as Andrew watches as Alex and Bree chat amiably); or the unintended consequences of our own actions (as we watch an anguished Lynette watch Preston stand in for Porter). But, MA tells us that there are others who prefer the darkness because there they only see what they choose to see, as we watch a coming unglued Dave chat with his visions about he thinks about them every day and how he'll be with them soon. But first Mike Delfino has to pay for taking them away from him. We pan around from the backs of the heads of the small child and woman to see Dave kneeling at two grave stones- Paige and Lila Dash- and Dave telling them "I want him to lose what I lost." (So I guess this means the woman and child Mike and Susan accidentally killed in the crash were Dave's family after all.)
