The red stripes on Adam's model of Neil Armstrong were introduced shortly after the moon landings to allow identification of individuals in photos after requests from the media for photos of Armstrong. As all members of the crew had identical spacesuits, no-one was sure which astronaut was in which picture.
As the stripes do not denote anything particular, they can be any colour, red simply showed up better in black and white pictures and film.
One astronaut had yellow stripes (Navy gold) in honour of his service in the Navy.
All original footage of the moon landings was destroyed in the 80's when the tapes were erased and recorded over.
It was SOP and nobody at NASA thought there was anything on the tapes worth keeping.
