A newsreel on Pearl Harbor attack
Rodrigo_Amaro29 March 2024
One of the earliest newsreels to cover the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941, which shows part of the attacks, the first responders helping the injured and also the American airmen who responded against the Japanese bombers, but it moves a little after that deadly scenario by showing Roosevelt's response on Japan, declaring war and we see the first volunteers joining the armed forces to fight in the Pacific, and there's even the capture of one submarine on the U. S. coast.

A good historical register, fresh from the events and possibly one of the many bases where Hollywood used as material to consult while developing their stories, such as in the classic "From Here to Eternity" to Michael Bay's "Pearl Harbor". Not necessarily the attack but mostly what happened in the first chaotic minutes with victims being rescued, helped or found, the film captured the essence of it all in an accurate manner.

Two versions of this short can be found: one without narration but with a somber music and some sound effects; other with those classic voice overs and FDR's speech can be heard as well. Both versions work in their own special way and serve its purpose of showing the past to different generations to come. 8/10.
