I go where God is most needed
bosporan2 May 2022
A solid episode with a lot happening, yet slower than the usual frenetic pace. Marty must understand how far he is prepared to go to establish control of the cartel for Navarro, Jason Bateman admirably portrays the ambiguous blend of his apprehension, anguish and ambition.

Marty is the One Who Knocks

Warning: Spoilers
Marty reliving his trauma as he makes another person go through the same trauma. A well-constructed comparison. Wendy at Ozarks, is bluffing. Or is she? That's why Wendy is the scariest character in this series. When she threatens you, you have no idea what will happen. The opening scene is again very good but we should have seen that scene sooner. Grandpa and Jonah scenes etc. Are still the weakest part of the 2nd half of this season. I hope it will lead us somewhere.

Because that's what I want

Warning: Spoilers
1. Marty deals with the cartel 2. Cops are on Ruth 3. Wendy is getting screwed over.

We get a fresh perspective at how Ben handled his execution, which was heartbreaking. Not sure what the intent exactly was but Ben is STILL a large "plot device" onto season 4. I don't believe that Nelson actually delivered Ben's request to Wendy about him being sorry about the consequences about his action. This would have changed many courses of outcomes I feel like as Wendy spends a whole season struggling with guilt. Perhaps another intent was to showcase the vile side of Wendy one more time.

It's a little surprising that Omar would trust Marty to be like him. We understand that he trusts him but it's an entirely different thing to be a rep for the cartel. Marty puts his tough guy suit and executes a man. I don't think Arturo ordered the hit but you would be killed for screwing with the books anyways. It gave Marty a perfect opportunity to establish control and power. I think him being in Mexico was portrayed well. The priest definitely gives off a shady vibe the whole time and the wife seems suspicious too. Perhaps they are both working against Omar.

Wendy is being pushed to her last straw because all her eggs depend on the foundation basket. And people are continuously making her attempts miserable.

Solid episode once again. Drama ensues.

One comment: the guard doing literally nothing to intervene the stabbing or try to save Omar is just... way too fictional. There was a guard literally 2 feet away.

Jason Bateman is phenomenal

Warning: Spoilers
This was an episode where Marty gets the spotlight, as he assumes the role of acting cartel boss. We finally get a good look at Marty in a proper leadership role, being instructed to lead & dominate with fear. By the end of the episode, we see that (to no surprise) Marty might not actually be cut out for the punishment portion of leadership. On the other hand, we have Wendy, who continues to dig her hooks into as many people as she can, even if they want nothing to do with it at this point, fully embracing the life of crime. I suspect that the rivalry between Wendy & Ruth must end bloody at this point, these little jabs back and forth are going to accumulate into something wicked (I hope). I'm curious as to what the purpose of the opening scene was, other than to kill the fan theory than ben survived and to give us more Pelphrey goodness. Either way, it was an enjoyable opener, and installment overall.

Good episode but they really should've kept Ben alive. He's a phenomal actor and it made season 3 so much better. It was nice to see him again for a few minutes.

Warning: Spoilers
I think that Ben gave this series a dramatic, comedic and sad addition at the same time💥. I wish he was still there💔. He could have continued and provided fun and beauty for this truly boring series.💯

Netflix knows how to make a good series
moviesfilmsreviewsinc28 July 2022
Episode 10 opens with a flashback; Ben is in the diner where Wendy abandoned him, and he was subsequently murdered by the cartel. He was frightened and in disbelief. While his killer drives him to a location to kill him, Ben opens up about Wendy - how she was the only person that loved him. He wonders if she'd be proud of him by the way he's handling the ordeal he's in - he wants his killer to tell Wendy that he forgives her. It's genuinely sad watching Ben go through this. Ozark decided to play with our feelings on this character's death. Marty heads over to the cartel to take control. Flashbacks show Omar Navarro telling him that he must make them fear and trust him. He insists he must be ruthless. Essentially, Omar asks Marty to be him, or they will join forces with a rival and kill him. Look how far Marty has grown. From a small-time accountant to the acting head of the cartel. Wendy speaks to Ruth about her deal with Clare Shaw and asks her to partner up. She believes Ruth owes the family because she ruined their last chance of getting out of the Ozarks. But Ruth scoffs. I'm not surprised she scoffed. What is Wendy even thinking at this stage? As the episode draws closer to the end, Marty shows that the life of a crime boss is difficult, but he has to remain strong for the plan to work. Marty continues to interrogate the cartel member Arturo while he's been tortured. He wants him to admit he ordered the hit on Omar Navarro. Arturo admits he messed with the money, but he didn't call the attack on Omar Navarro. Eventually, Arturo confesses to ordering the attack on Omar after plenty of persistence. As the episode ends, Marty looks exhausted, but he's determined to stay to watch the execution of Arturo. The priest looks at him with sadness. Marty then watches Arturo get shot in the head. It's hard being the head of the cartel, or at least temporarily. Episode 10 proves significant as it shows the undesirable rise of Marty as new plans are put into place. While driving in the night, Ruth is surrounded by Wycoff and the police. They open up her van to see if they can find anything suspicious, but they find nothing. The next day, Ruth tells Wendy that her sheriff's plan did not work and asks her to stay out of her business. And then, Jim tells Wendy that Shaw Medical is pulling their charitable donations from the Foundation. He tells her they have one more crack at this. Wendy leaves Clare a voicemail and gives her one more chance to fix the issue.

Season 4 is just not believable
karinn-leigh16 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Please explain to me how, after the murder of Wyatt and Darlene, there's still heroine on the property?! I don't care how small or incompetent a town is, there's NO WAY IN HELL the heroine wouldn't have been seized along with the rest of the evidence collected during the murder investigation. Was there a change in writers or directors in season 4 that I'm not aware of? It's lazy and not believable. I have loved this show for at least 3 seasons but season 4 just has too many errors and inconsistencies to be believable. I'm not even going to get into the fact that Omar went from wanting to kill the Byrd's entire family to allowing Marty to take over as head of the cartel. Do better with your next project.

Building up to something good (I hope)
michielkromhout4 May 2022
I had hoped that we'd see Marty do something clever in Mexico but besides the (implausibly) easy catch of that guy cooking the books, he shows he's really not cut out for anything besides that.

And Wendy is getting highly annoying with her smug face.

So.... I guess it's very consistent writing 🙂 but I hope the finale will be worth the current cringe-watch.

Pillsborough dough boy as a cartel heavy
rkt-573384 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
How anyone can buy into Jason Bateman as a proxy cartel boss is beyond me. He's the softest guy in the series and the fact that he doesn't get whacked in the first 10 seconds in Mexico is not believable. Unless Marty having Cabrera tortured to get him to confess to a hit he obviously didn't order is intentional, that's just an insult to intelligent viewers. I found myself talking to the tv, telling Marty that he didn't do it. Navarro's mother gave him up - that should tell you something.

You're the Boss

Warning: Spoilers
Not quite Narcos: Mexico quality stuff, but some good cartel plots here. We knew exactly how everything would go down, but that doesn't necessarily make everything less entertaining.

It's getting boring.
hpcmakeup1 May 2022
Wendy is horribly annoying so this idea she could talk anyone into anything is absurd. Marty working for a drug cartel for years now but can't speak basic Spanish is absurd and would make him a total idiot...which in the show he is not so wtf! The beginning scene showing what happened is unnecessary..we all know what happened we didn't need to see it.

This seems like a filler episode that Netflix said to the Ozark producers we need more episodes to keep subscribers so just add some filler. Zzzzzz.

It's all over the place
alanpuzey19 December 2022
The probability of the events in this episode actually happening are so low, certainly zero. Marty with no Spanish decides to go and tough it out with all the cartel members - really!

Just where are the writers taking this series as it comes to an end? More and more violence and killings, with new characters coming and going so quickly, one loses the plot - and there are just so many subplots, most of them so preposterous, what is the point.

Characters are now moving from one country to another without any of the problems that actually happen in real life.

A good series when it started, but really 'off the rails' as series 4 comes to an end.

such bs
abortamir4 May 2022
Marty since season 2, he kept that one dimensional acting, low voice and irritating acting. His wife wendy on the other hand overreact. This episode just for him to take over the Cartel boss isn't even exciting. There's no tension because of his stupid act.
