Almost Poetic

The cinematography is stunning, and some stills are works of art in their own right. It was this aspect of the episode that pulled me in, combined with the almost poetic dialogue. The two leads, Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer do a fine job, and the episode's portrayal of conflict and societal commentary is handled artistically while remaining grounded. It lends nuance to everything instead of simply being black and white, which I like. "Path of the Dead," the second episode, is a solid follow-up to the debut and masterfully lays the setting for a gripping tale, even if we don't know where it's heading just yet.

It's proving to be a captivating watch.

Eli and Cornelia continue their journey, they encounter a very strange scene, an abandoned carriage containing a pregnant woman. Thomas Trafford, an Englishman learns that Powder River is in the hands of a new owner.

There's more than enough here in this second episode to make me want to carry on watching, it's such a curious storyline, but I am actually enthralled by it, even if I don't fully understand all that's happening. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

There are a few killings, they're not afraid to show a bit of violence, pretty much what you'd expect in a Western.

Tom Hughes is always good, he always delivers, I'm really keen to see the part that Trafford has to play, could he potentially be a love interest?

The combination of Chaske Spencer and Emily Blunt is terrific, the shared scenes are brilliant, thoroughly enjoying their journey of discovery.

I must compliment the musical choices throughout, some inspired selections.

It's proving to be an engaging series.

8/10.

Moving slowly

Warning: Spoilers
The story continues at rather a slow pace. However, the cinematography and landscape is so beautiful, it draws you in.

Unfortunately there are a few too many plot holes. I do find it bemusing that Emily Blunt has to take a fraction of her possessions with her, yet she manages to pack a variety of victorian dresses in an holdall! The newborn, who grows rapidly it seems, survives for a fair time on sugar water without screaming the place down. Really??

I hope the subsequent episodes are faster paced and Blunt's secret is revealed soon. Sometimes the actors mumble, so I can't keep up with what they're saying. Overall, I am enjoying this series, but there is room for improvement.

Dreamy not screamy

Two parts watched and I still can't work out whether this is serious or a dark comedy or just something in between.

The scenery is barren but great visually but the story does seem slow and doesn't seem to be going very far.

I know the main character is supposed to be a sultry Scorpion but the two main stars are both dreamy Pisceans and that is probably the cause of the undercurrent expecting the other fish to lead the way.

There are good parts to this but the demise of two big actors after episode one has left a big gap in the quality.

Hopefully, the next instalment will improve because we Capricorns have to see things through no matter how futile.
