Peter's Last Mission
JordanThomasHall16 January 2019
Peter is on his way to his Air Force reunion in Washington D.C. dressed in his uniform. He promises to return the next day in time to take Mary to the opening of the opera and will bring a red evening gown and the tickets. Meanwhile, the Air Force is preparing an important mission expecting a courier with the details and orders for a missile test at the remote Honowok Island in the South Pacific. Peter walks in to the command center looking for his Air Force plane and is mistaken for the courier. When the real courier arrives he is sent on the reunion plane. The mission crew arrive on the island where Peter is thought to have had a mental collapse due to the altitude. He clings to his briefcase where Major Lewis Morgan (Nicholas Saunders) is upset to only find Mary's dress. The major is given communication of the mixup and asks Peter not to mention it to anyone. The historic missile test is televised back to the States and Peter sneaks in the background to mouth a message to Mary who knows it can't be Peter, but a lookalike. Peter brainstorms with Major Morgan and Sergeant Moore (Robert Hastings, "McHale's Navy") of a way to possibly get back in time for the opening of the opera, against the odds.

Outlandish plots are forgivable when solid comedy takes the reins. Here, it misses that mark, in my opinion. A similar plot was used to better effect in the "Ensign O'Toole" episode "Operation: Daddy"- produced by the same Four Star Television company.
