Bird, a large white goose, arrives and sits in Ebb's favourite place. Ebb is jealous. Bird wants to be like Ebb and do whatever Ebb does. Flo tries to help Ebb understand, but Ebb wishes Bird would just fly away. One day, Ebb's wish comes true. Ebb is pleased but soon misses Bird. Happily, Bird does come back and Ebb now shares her favourite place with Bird. Things Couldn't Be Better!
Ebb plays squeaky ball on the beach with Flo. Bird joins in and Ebb hurts a paw. It's all Bird's fault. Ebb gets to sleep on Flo's bed with a bandaged paw. Next day, they visit Granny who wants to see Ebb. Later, when Bird squeaks Ebb's ball, Ebb joins in! Flo is delighted that Ebb's paw is better. They play a splashy rock pool game. Things couldn't be wetter!
Ebb sees Flo leave the boat, carrying a stick. Why would Flo leave Ebb behind? Has she got a new friend to play 'Stick' with? Ebb rushes to find Flo, Bird follows. Ebb tracks Flo's scent along the towpath to a small house where music is playing. Ebb sees Flo with her 'stick'. It's a recorder and it's Flo's music lesson! Ebb and Bird join in. What a noise! Things Couldn't Be Better!
Playing 'Fetch the Stick' on the beach, Flo loses Ma's silver bangle. Ebb finds a baby cormorant who adopts Ebb who protects the chick from her noisy friend Bird. They search for the chick's ma and find her bobbing in the water with her other two chicks. Ebb returns the little chick to his mother. On the way back to shore, Ebb finds the lost silver bangle. Things Couldn't Be Better.
Ebb and Bird have their breakfast stolen by a gull. Unaware, Flo takes them for a picnic lunch on the beach. Ebb guards the lunch while Flo and Bird explore. The same gull returns with friends to steal the food. Ebb tries to stop them. Ebb gets the blame for eating the picnic. But the greedy gull grabs Flo's last sandwich. Flo is so sorry for doubting Ebb who gets a very big hug.
Ebb's favourite squeaky ball has lost its squeak. Tomorrow is Ebb's birthday and Flo plans a party. But Ebb only wants the ball to squeak again. At the party, the games start with Hide and Seek and Ebb sees an amazing sight, a flying doggie chew! Ebb follows the doggie chew and finds Flo and Bird waiting with her birthday present, a brand new squeaky ball. Things couldn't be better!
It's a bucket and spade day. On the beach, Ebb & Flo play at marching and hide and seek with Bird. They explore a cave and play shadow games. A strange noise and shadow frightens Ebb, but it's only Bird having fun. Flo promises she'll never laugh at Ebb being scared again. Back along the beach, it's still a glorious bucket and spade day. Flo starts a marching game on the way home.
Flo tries out her new bike along the towpath. Poor Ebb can't keep up but Bird can. Ebb is sent back to the boat. It's not fair. Crossly, Ebb rips up Flo's pillow. Oh dear. Flo understands but still doesn't play with Ebb. Then Ebb sees there's a new Ebb sized basket on the front of Flo's bike, with room on the back for Bird! Now all three can ride together. Nothing Can Stop Them Now!
Cousin Joe comes to play with Flo, Ebb and Bird. He's brought Morris, his show-off terrier. Bird is impressed but Ebb isn't. They all play on the beach and Ebb can do nothing right. Poor Ebb. Tea time at the boat, Morris shows off again and knocks over the tea table. Joe is fed up with Morris and thinks Ebb is 'so cool'. Ebb gets an extra hug from Flo. Things Couldn't Be Better!
It's raining. Flo is practising her alphabet and Ebb has no-one to play with. A baby seals splashes about on the beach. Ebb joins in the game. The baby seal falls asleep on top of Ebb.But the tide is coming in and they're marooned. Bird flaps off to get help. The seal pup's ma arrives. Ma and Flo return in the dinghy and haul Ebb aboard. Things Couldn't Be Wetter.
Ma gives Flo a new teddy bear. Old Ted is smelly and has to go. But Ebb doesn't agree. While Flo and Bird show New Ted around the boatyard, Ebb rescues Old Ted from the bin. When Flo finds out, she's really pleased Ebb saved Old Ted. Now he's Ebb's toy. Old Ted has a wonderful smell which reminds Ebb of Flo. Things Couldn't Be.
Flo needs a new summer dress. Ebb is left behind to guard Flo's favourite hat. Ebb dozes on deck and Jasper the boatyard cat comes looking for food. Ebb is woken by a loud crash. Ebb & Bird panic and hide. Then they see Flo's hat move about the boat. Bravely, Ebb finds Jasper underneath. Jasper flees. Flo returns in her new summer frock and Ebb is praised for guarding her hat.
It's the boatyard Summer Party and Ebb doesn't want to go. Finally Flo holds up the dog lead. Urrgh! Ebb hates that lead. But Bird like it and proudly tows Flo to the party wearing Ebb's lead. Suddenly Ebb smells sausages and wants to get there before Flo and Bird. They all have a great time and eat too much. Bird can barely fly home and Ebb can only waddle. Flo giggles.
At her house, Granny reads to Flo a legend about a local sea monster. On the way home, Ebb's ball is lost and the dinghy gets stuck on a mud bank. Ma makes supper while they wait for the tide to turn. Ebb's ball bounces in on the tide and Ebb & Bird meet a mysterious new friend. The tide turns and they sail home shadowed by their new friend. A scaly green tail flicks 'Goodbye' to them.
On the way to Granny's by dinghy, Ma tells Flo and Ebb there's a surprise waiting for them. It's a grumpy kitten who swipes at Ebb's nose and glares at Bird. Ebb and Bird retreat to the dinghy. Later, Ebb finds Flo and the kitten having a great time on Ebb's favourite swing. Grrr! But the kitten is too adventurous, falls in the water and has to be rescued by Ebb. Hurrah for Ebb!
It's springtime. Flo give Ebb a bone to play with while she and Ma go to buy some spring bulbs to plant. Ebb and Bird follow, leaving Ebb's bone behind. But they miss Ma and Flo at the shop. Back home, Ebb's bone is missing. Disaster! Finally Ebb finds it sticking out of a plant pot. Flo had 'planted' Ebb's bone (like her spring bulbs) as a planting game for Ebb.
Something is wrong but Ebb doesn't know what it is except that Flo must not go to her music lesson. Ebb tries to stop her and Bird joins in. Flo is not pleased with Ebb and leaves for her lesson. A storm blows up. Ebb races along the towpath and barks a warning to Flo. Just in time as a tree falls, blocking her path. Ma hugs them both. Safe! All thanks to Ebb. "How did Ebb know Ma?"
It's a blowy day and Ebb is not happy. Ma takes them upstream to check on Granny who's doing her washing. She shows Flo how to make a kite. The kite escapes but Bird rescues it. Then they chase Granny's escaping washing back across the bay and lose an oar. Flo's kite tows their dinghy home. Back safely, Ebb cheers up. By bedtime, Ebb's blowy day is over.
A new boat has arrived. Bird wakes Ebb up to come and see. Bird goes onboard and Ebb is worried because Bird doesn't return. Bird has found a new friend Zoot, a tiny yellow canary. Bird and Zoot play together all the time. Grrr. Ebb is jealous. Then one day, the new boat and Zoot are gone. Bird is inconsolable. Ebb and Flo create a little gift to cheer Bird up.
After frisbee games on the beach, Ebb is left to guard the frisbee. But that greedy gull arrives and grabs the frisbee until Bird stops him. Then Flo and Bird go beach digging. Ebb likes this game too. Ebb buries the frisbee for safety while they play. Time to go home but where is the frisbee? The tide is coming in and Ma sees something floating. It's the frisbee! Ebb kept it safe after all!
