This documentary covers the crimes of the killer couple from their first – the abduction and murder of two teenage girls - to the killing of Craig Miller and his fiancée in November 1980. Craig was murdered simply because he was in the way. Mary Beth Sowers would be raped repeatedly before she was similarly dispatched.
This was their last crime because Gallego had become careless. As pointed out here, his appetite was becoming insatiable.
Shocking though these crimes were, what those participating in this documentary cannot understand – including one still grieving father – is how Charlene was able to cut a deal that led to her being sentenced to only 16 years 8 months for participating in ten murders. The consensus is that although she was most definitely the junior partner in this twisted enterprise, she was a more than willing one. At one point she split up with Gallego and moved back in with her parents. She was paroled in 1997. Gallego died from cancer in 2002 while under sentence of death.
