Learn more- Peter Smith, a clumsy, awkward man perpetually dressed in business casual, hovers behind a surgically clean fish tank, where a fat goldfish swims back and forth lazily. He is ecstatic, excitedly talking to his new fish, Missy, in a baby voice. Suddenly the tank lights flicker and the phone rings. Peter flies into a panic, torn between stressing over the lights and answering his phone. The call goes to voicemail. A heavily modified voice floats through the cramped kitchen, ordering our hero to pick up the phone or his secret will be revealed to the world. Peter drops everything - literally - to answer. The mysterious voice assures Peter his secret is safe if he does one him one teeny tiny favor - kill someone. And so, he tries to carry out the mystery caller's instructions. However, Peter quickly finds out killing is harder than it looks. Following the blackmailer's advice, he sneaks into the target, Terry's house, intending to stab him in the shower in an especially anxious Psycho reenactment. But as he approaches, Terry screams at a roach, spooking Peter into jumping out the window. Battered and bruised, Peter retreats to his apartment, where the mysterious voice contacts him again. This time, he gives a time limit - twelve hours. Peter gets desperate. After consulting Missy, he tries everything he can think of to take Terry out. His increasingly ridiculous plans include attempting to break into Terry's workplace, poisoning his coffee, and outrunning him on his daily jog, but all efforts end in failure. Utterly broken, exhausted, and drenched in sweat, Peter returns to his apartment at the end of the day to await judgment. RING. Peter contemplates not answering. RING. He looks at Missy and fidgets. RING. The phone switches to voicemail. The mystery caller commands him to answer and Peter trips over himself to pick it up. Upon learning the mission was unsuccessful, the blackmailer threatens to reveal Peter's dark secret - except that he calls Peter the wrong name. After being questioned, it's revealed that the mysterious blackmailer called the wrong number. Peter is in crisis - he almost (but not really) killed a man! Now it's Peter's turn to be questioned: why would he go along with the blackmailer's demands? In a compulsive outburst, Peter admits he's been terrified of the police finding out that he shoplifted Missy from the pet store.
