The saga of One Piece begins with Gol D Roger’s famous words: “My treasures? Find them. Everything in this world is there.”
This single call to action began a new age as everyone scrambled to find Roger’s treasure. But what if Roger initiated The Great Age of the Pirates for an ulterior motive? What if the hunt for his treasure really just a ruse to find someone in particular?
The Roger Pirates Knew Only Joy Boy Could Defeat Imu in One Piece Roger laughing after finding Joy Boy’s treasure | One Piece Toei
A theory suggests that the Roger Pirates knew about Imu, and the only way to defeat him was via Joy Boy. They might know that the only way to defeat Imu is by using the powers of the Nika Devil Fruit.
When Roger said at Laughtale: “I wish I could have lived in your era.

Taylor Swift is not letting go of the top of the Billboard 200 albums chart, settling in at number-one for a fourth week, and judging from her minuscule week-to-week dip, she may stay in the upper echelons for quite a while. “The Tortured Poets Department” was down just eight-percent to achieve 260,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams. Read more about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.

Swift’s total was almost triple the number racked up by this week’s second-place collection: rapper Gunna‘s “One of Wun” with 91,000 units. That was actually a step up from Gunna’s last studio album, “A Gift and a Curse,” which launched less than a year ago with 85,000 units. Then holding steady at number-three this week was Morgan Wallen‘s “One Thing at a Time,...

Kanye West has 24 Grammys total, making him the most awarded rapper in the awards’ history (tied with Jay-Z). Seven of West’s albums have won Grammys, and he has additional prizes from standalone singles, features, and production work behind the scenes. His last studio album, “Donda,” got four nominations including Album of the Year, and won twice in rap categories. With such an impressive track record over the span of two decades, one might simply assume he’s likely to be nominated for his new album with Ty Dolla $ign, “Vultures 1,” which has been doing great on the charts. However, “Vultures 1” comes after West’s public backlash due to antisemitic remarks, which doesn’t seem to have ended his career, but still looms over him.

Love them or hate them, the Academy Awards remain a cornerstone of the movie industry and popular culture. Film fans everywhere tend to have a lot to say about the award show, even if it’s to get a few grievances about its existence off their chests. Through all of its ups and downs over the last 90+ years, that continued level of relevance is a testament to the power of the name “Oscars.”
But for as popular as that shorthand name for the Academy Awards may be, its origin remains surprisingly obscure. In fact, until very recently, we only had a vague idea of how, when, and why the name “Oscars” became synonymous with the Academy Awards. It’s a story that not only reveals the truth (or at least the partial truth) behind a question you’ve likely asked at some point but quite a lot about how the...

The dust still hasn’t settled on the 96th annual Academy Award nominations due to the uproar over the “Barbie” snubs for Best Actress for Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig for Best Director. They still earned Oscar nominations for the cultural phenomena that was the No. 1 film of 2023 with an international box office of $1.4 billion. Robbie and Gerwig received noms as producer for the Best Picture nominee and Gerwig also was garnered a nomination for co-writing the adapted screenplay. But the film is about female empowerment, so it’s beyond ironic it was Ken (Ryan Gosling), not Barbie, who received Oscar recognition.
Gosling wasn’t happy: “Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.”
America Ferrera,...

Of the 272 films that have earned lone acting Oscar nominations – meaning they were each recognized in one performance category and nowhere else – a whopping 101 (or 37.1%) accomplished the feat thanks to lead actresses. Whereas just 60 examples have occurred in the Best Actor category, the corresponding female one reached that benchmark in 1991 and is on track to double it less than two decades from now. Its triple digit total has now been intact for one full year, having directly resulted from the simultaneous nominations of Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) and Andrea Riseborough (“To Leslie”).
Although an Oscar bid was generally expected to follow de Armas’s 2023 BAFTA, Golden Globe, and SAG Award nominations, Riseborough very memorably came out of nowhere, having defied precedent by benefiting from an enthusiastic grassroots campaign. While most of the earlier lone Best Actress contenders belong in de Armas’s camp, many align with Riseborough in having pulled off major surprises.

The slow season for music on the Billboard 200 albums chart continued in the tracking week that ended January 11. Morgan Wallen‘s “One Thing at a Time” was down four-percent to 61,000 equivalent album units based on its combined record sales, individual track sales and online streams, but it still rose back to the top to spend its 17th nonconsecutive week at number-one. Read all about this week’s chart here at Billboard.com.
“One Thing at a Time” has spent 45 weeks on the chart, and as of this writing has never spent a single week below sixth place. That’s consistent with the performance of Wallen’s previous album, “Dangerous,” which is still in the top 20 after 157 weeks on the chart, though “Dangerous” only spent 10 weeks in the top spot over the course of its long, dominant run. “Dangerous” ended 2021 as Billboard’s number-one album of the year, and “One Thing...

21 Savage’s third solo album, American Dream, begins with his mother, Heather Joseph, describing her family’s emigration from Britain to America during his childhood. “Every path that I walked was for my son,” she tells us. (Big Rube of Dungeon Family fame penned her introduction.) It’s a concept many others have used before, most famously by Jay-Z and his mother Gloria Carter on “December 4th” from 2003’s The Black Album.

For the past four years or so, the story has been that pop music is dying, comatose, or at the very least, suffering a yearslong debilitating hangover. In 2017, rap overtook pop; 2018 killed the pop star.
Last year around this time, hip-hop dominated our midyear rankings of the biggest albums. While the Weeknd’s After Hours led, six of the top 10 were rap albums, including Roddy Ricch’s Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, Lil Baby’s My Turn, and Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake.

Morgan Wallen doubles down on his wild, fast-paced lifestyle in “Livin’ the Dream,” one of a trio of new songs the Tennessee native released on Friday as a preview of his new album Dangerous.
With a moody, almost New Wave atmosphere that’s filled out with synth pads and a smattering of textured, minimalist guitar parts, “Livin’ the Dream” continues the interesting sonic evolution Wallen has made from “Whiskey Glasses” to the present. Fans of Disney’s Darkwing Duck might be headed for a Crisis on Infinite Darkwings. A reboot of the beloved ’90s animated series is in the early stages of development for Disney Plus, with Alex McAtee of Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures overseeing the project (via Variety.)
But wait, didn’t they already reboot Darkwing Duck recently? In the modern series of DuckTales, the character of Darkwing was slowly introduced over the shows three seasons before recently getting his own special episode, ‘Let’s Get Dangerous!’ This episode introduced a rebooted version of original Darkwing Duck character Gosalyn Mallard and set the stage for more adventures featuring the two alongside DuckTales main cast member Launchpad.
So is this new reboot in development a spinoff of what we’ve already seen in the new DuckTales, or is it a whole new version of Darkwing Duck? At present we aren’t sure.

Unprecedented shoot: Universal and co wrapped their $165M blockbuster Jurassic World: Dominion this week; back in July the film became the first major studio production to resume shooting in the UK during the pandemic.
