The Arrival

Warning: Spoilers
It took a little while to get going, but once it got into the horror stuff it was good.

The casting is a little all over the place, but it looks like they got the baby right at least.

Warning: Spoilers
Rita, Tasha and Mags. Natasha is our protagonist and she's not exactly happy about Tasha having a baby. She looks at her baby with disdain, seeing it as a massive burden on one's life and wants them to go back to being carefree besties, drinking and smoking. This whole conversation takes a turn for the worst though when Rita announces that she's pregnant. When Mags leaves off the back of Tasha's rudeness, Rita does too when Tasha throws up an abortion "joke" to her. It's a bad night all round. The Baby gets off to an incredibly weird start, sporting an undercurrent of dark humour and a really compelling mystery. There are shades of AppleTV's Servant here too, given the strangeness of the whole situation, although what we're presented with here feels a little lighter, despite the visceral shock of certain scenes.

It's also worth pointing out that there are also similarities to The X-Files too, and in particular the episode "Chinga" where a doll ends up going on a rampage. There's some nice parallels between the two and it makes for a really intriguing watch. Tasha as a whole isn't a very likable character but that's obviously deliberate, given we're supposed to see her thrust in the middle of this less-than-ideal situation and then grow and get better as a result of that. I'd imagine we'll see her slowly grow closer to this baby, perhaps even come to understand exactly what's going on and who the woman in the yellow jacket really is. The thing is, the officer believes she's not telling them something. And as a result, she's arrested for the night, kept in for questioning. The baby is kept in too, given he won't stop crying when he's not with Tasha. However, when she holds the baby, her breasts start leaking. It's incredibly weird (Tasha's words) but as the babe starts breastfeeding, it momentarily turns into a demon. Tasha awakens with a start to find herself still in the police cell.

Quirky cool + great music!

Very interesting concept and I felt the casting was excellent!

The baby is adorable and the lead actress is very natural in portraying a funny & unique character . The writing is well done as you can already get a good sense of what many characters are like - a very lived in feeling like these characters already existed and we're just now getting a peek into their world.

Very cool first episode and I'm really looking forward to the rest of this season! I don't understand the other negative/low reviews - hopefully people give this show a fair chance.

Very Disappointing
benjermun26 April 2022
The first minute or so starts out pretty interesting but then it gets completely boring and starts to drag on way too hard for most scenes with no real relevance to the plot, I kept waiting for something funny or interesting to happen but it never did. Also the main actress wasn't that great unfortunately, she feels like she would be in a Dhar Mann video, terrible pilot but hopefully it gets better cause potentially this could be a really good show.

Poor continuity

Warning: Spoilers
I gave up after about 15 minutes.

A woman falls over a cliff during daylight. A baby crawls after her and also goes over the cliff. This after a police chase on foot.

We switch scenes and much later in the same day (we know it is later because it is night and another woman is sitting in a darkened room with the lights on).

She hears a noise outside & finds a woman at the base of the cliff. A few moments later we hear a baby cry & it falls into the woman's arms.

It must have been a hell of a high cliff for the two to fall in broad daylight and crash to the bottom in the early hours of the night!!!!

And the woman's arms would have been sliced straight off. The baby would have been falling at an amazing rate by the time she caught it!!!!!!!!!

Oh and the woman who goes outside ends up with blood on her face. Despite the fact that she was not near the dead woman when she hit the ground and did not go near enough to her for there to have been a transfer of blood.

Next we see the police officers who were in the opening scene in the house with the woman & the baby & they have not a clue what they should do!! One of them even asks the woman for a glass of water, despite the fact that her hands are full as she is holding the baby!!!

Poor writing, poor continuity, no story. How did the writer get this job???

Expect better from a British comedy.

The Arrival
Prismark1028 July 2022
Is it The Omen? Is it Rosemary's Baby?

The Baby arrives as a comedy horror. A baby that brings bad luck and a grisly end to a lot of people, some of them well meaning.

Natasha (Michelle de Swarte) does not have a maternal bone in her body. All that could change when a baby falls into her hands, literally.

After that it is chaos as Natasha tries to leave the baby behind with just about anyone else.

There is a mystery here regarding the baby. Just what is the deal about it. I found the first episode uncertain in tone. I thought de Swarte was not strong enough to carry off Natasha in the opener.

There is no doubt that the show has a subtext. Just how chaotic a baby in your life can be. Hence why Natasha is agitated when her two best friends are pregnant.
