Clare Austin, seen here as Mrs. Pinto, had in The Queen and the Welshman (1958) played Katherine of Valois, queen consort of Henry V and - via her second marriage to Owen Tudor - great-great-great-grandmother of Elizabeth I. ''The Queen and the Welshman'' teleplay had been the first screenwriting credit for Rosemary Anne Sisson, screenwriter of ''The Marriage Game'' episode of Elizabeth R (1971).
Some scenes were filmed at Penshurst Place and the local parish church, where Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, hopes to meet Queen Elizabeth and marry her. These places were owned and associated with the Earls of Leicester, although not until a generation later, when the title was granted anew to Robert Sidney, Dudley's nephew.
