This looks messed up. Gravitas Ventures has debuted an official US trailer for an indie horror thriller from France titled Anonymous Animals, feature debut of filmmaker Baptiste Rouveure. This premiered at a number of genre festivals last year, and lands on VOD in the US this fall. The balance of power between man and animal has changed. In a remote countryside, any encounter can become hostile. What exactly is going on? It is an "experimental feature film set in a world where the positions of power of humans and animals have been reversed. In oppressive images and without any dialogue, the film draws its viewers into gloomy landscapes shrouded in mist and into sparsely lit rooms where frightened people face a gruesome fate and are thrown back on their instincts. Escape from the dominant animals appears to be the only possible way out..." Starring Thierry Marcos & Pauline Guilpain. It looks twisted and extra dark.

Stars: Thierry Marcos, Aurélien Chilarski, Emilien Lavaut | Written and Directed by Baptiste Rouveure
I do like the intrigue and bewilderment that comes with watching experimental cinema, and so it is easy to become swept up in ideas that are obscure or based around metaphor. Baptiste Rouveure (And The Winner Is) writes and directs this low-budget picture that is without dialogue but instead focuses on haunting, oft disturbing and regularly weird vignettes related to the balance of power between mankind and animals, and that balance being stuck in reverse.
The clear message aside, this is a very eccentric film, taking a route that attempts to alter the perception of the viewer in these eerie, haunting sequences. Taking the abuse of animals and turning it against the human, Anonymous Animals attempts to question the atrocities of mankind as well as our place in society, but it doesn’t always quite work. There...

The Screamfest Horror Film Festival has unveiled the lineup of films that will be featured at the 20th annual drive-in edition. Kicking off the fest, which runs from October 6-15, is Books of Blood, the Hulu original film based on Clive Barker’s horror anthology.
From director Brannon Braga and executive producer Seth MacFarlane, Books of Blood is slated to premiere on the streamer on October 7.
