Ash, Misty, and Brock came across a forest that has wild Pikachus living in it. At first the the wild Pikachus wouldn't accept Ash's Pikachu because he is a trained Pokemon, but when a small, curious Pikachu of the group falls in rushing water and Pikachu saves it, along with the help of the other Pikachus, they accept him in the group. Ash then wonders if his Pikachu is meant to stay in the forest with the other Pikachus, after Brock said how he was good being friends with those of his own kind. Then of course you have Team Rocket wanting to steal all of the Pikachus (including Ash's Pikachu), with Ash and Pikachu saving the day, but once Pikachu runs off with the other Pikachus, it looks like Ash's mind is made up and that he decides to leave Pikachu in the forest with the other Pikachus. Misty, Brock, and Pikachu himself are shocked that Ash would even think of leaving him. In a montage and a song "The Time has Come", it shows all the times Ash and Pikachu had good times together. Again Misty and Brock are against the idea, and what changed Ash's mind, was when all the Pikachus start to cheer, for Ash and his Pikachu,to keep continuing their journey together. Pikachu runs up to Ash and along with Misty and Brock, they are on their way. A very good classic episode, it probably would have been different if Ash did leave Pikachu, and the series probably wouldn't gone far as it is now.
