not representative documenrary. very biased
mariosmichaelides-4502323 November 2020
The doc, is really trying to portray Soros as a God on earth, at the service of us helpless earthlings. Then you notice its Open society production, so basically Soros making a movie about himself. The arrogance..

Biased drivel
ernesttp11 April 2022
This movie is one sided drivel. I bet he paid to have it made, by his sycophants. I noticed the people giving it 10 stars, all have to mention Trump, or Foxnews , in their reviews🙄. You can watch the movie, then use your brain, and do your own research on Soros, you'll find that he is corrupt, and was chased out his, and other european countries, for his corruption. Then he comes to America, and uses his wealth to corrupt America.

Soro's own propaganda
dougdemelo22 November 2020
He's no philanthropist! He's in for the money and selfish interests. This doc is just a promo for his business.

vision for life
parafilms23 November 2020
George Soros is immensely wealthy. But he saw that money gives power, but does not give meaning. One can't help but be moved by this man's efforts to use his wealth to promote democracy against oppressive regimes. Sometimes he is spectacularly successful, and sometimes, discouragingly unsuccessful. But what is inspiring is that through it all, he keeps steady in his vision.

Trying to make evil more palatable
jerrynick3021 November 2020
Who here thinks Soros paid for this movie himself? A one sided puff piece, to try to make evil look good.

Excellent doc

A lot of Trump worshippers reviewing this with 1 star thinking they'd find some dark conspiracy about Soros which is constantly floated around on Fox News.

All those copy paste 1 star reviews simply SHOUT you must see it

A decent documentary showing a story of a decent man. Sure, he's dangerous (to autocrats and oppressors), but nobody's perfect. For your freedom and ours.

Truly fair and balanced view of Soros
gvseostud3 January 2023
Yes he made billions off of financial crises and yes he supports humanitarian causes all over the world with a small fraction of his winnings.

The film does a good job of cataloging the causes he has supported, including anti-apartheid efforts in South Africa, democratic movements in former USSR, Bosnia freedom, and so on.

The documentary also captures his funding of journalism, freedom of the press, and the support of the equitable application of justice at some times as democracy is finally achieved.

Why do so many fear him? Some brainwashed, but why? Authoritarian regimes all over the globe do not want to see home succeed, and this movie makes that case.

Saving face
sylvain_johan31 August 2023
It's a good example of how an ultra rich individual, totally disconnected with the vast majority of the world's population releases a 'documentary' on himself in a vain effort to create a more positive outlook on his character.

Watching this I get the impression Soros not only trying to save his own legacy in some way, or at least the public outlook on his practices, so his son will face less opposition to continue his father's vision.

In any case, in some ways it's interesting, in a psychological way, to get a small peek in how someone like him thinks he has to portray himself to get the positive image he wants but this 'documentary' will do the opposite I think.

It's almost intersting to watch in the way how would you find it interesting to watch a mental patient in an asylum. There is such a distance in behaviour that it almost seems too foreign to actually connect with.

Shamelessly One-sided pro-Soros Propaganda
ioelisf31 August 2023
Don't get me wrong. It is interesting, especially the interviews with Soros himself and those who know him personally.

But this ends up being a not-so-thinly-disguised vanity piece for one of the richest and most influential men in the world. This apologia doesn't bother to investigate any of the more sinister accusations against him, such as political interference or economic oppression of his ideological opponents.

Nor does it seriously address the long-term results of the economic and political influence he exerted in South Africa which (arguably) has resulted in the current genocidal movement taking place there, nor the decimation of that country's infrastructure. Nor the election interference in the U. S.

Nor does it consider the veracity of some of the imagination-stretching stories about his early life or family. Nor does it interview any of his many reputable critics or try to address their criticisms of him. The list goes on.

Maybe his critics are wrong. But this film doesn't bother trying to address their claims, even for the purpose of debunking. Pure fluff.

Another reviewer describes this film as "Truly fair and balanced." Sure. Just like Fox News is "fair and balanced."

A Very Good Documentary
DavoZed16 October 2021
A very good outline of George Soros' life and the scope and nature of his philanthropy.

I am embarrassed as a human being, for the people who have come here to post their Fox News driven gibberish about Soros and who have taken nothing away from this very simple and straightforward film.

If you want to understand Soros and the motivation for his efforts to change the world for the better, watch this.

If you want to continue to be a dunce and parrot the Fox News nonsense about Soros, watch Fox News instead.
