I understand this series is based on a novel by the same title. And I see how maybe the book tells a more complex story between all the characters. And this is maybe why I feel like there's more to their stories, like there is something missing and there are gaps.
I totally understand it is hard to accommodate a whole book into a script and there will always be something missing. However I feel like there could have been more done so that we feel either connected to the characters or like we can relate to them and how they connect to each other. I for instance do not really see why Nick and Frances like each other so much and I honestly couldn't care less if they get together or not. This has nothing to do with the actors and their chemistry and EVERYTHING to do with the writing and the script.
I feel like unless you have read the book, you will not really feel empathy for any of the characters. This is because we need more of their back stories or relationships .
On the contrary , I am actually way more intrigued by Bobbi and Melissa. I want to see more of them and what happens with them. At first I thought the four of them were main characters, however, I am starting to feel like these two are not main.
I also understand that maybe in the book the main character is only Frances, and maybe it is narrated through her point of view and this is why we only see from her perspective, and see what happens around her and what happens to other characters only when she is in scene. But I think it would make the story more interesting if we could see what happens even when she is not around. Maybe not from the other characters perspective, but as an omnipresence entity.
This is another 7 for me. I still keep high hopes for better episodes. The story is not a bad story, It just needs to be told a little different maybe.
I know the show has potential to make me love it with capital letters and make me feel for each of the characters. Let's see what happens next.
