BTS and Coldplay debuted at number-one on the Billboard Hot 100 with their collaboration “My Universe,” which will be featured on Coldplay‘s imminent “Music of the Spheres” album (due for release on October 15). That was no surprise given what a hot streak BTS have been on. But while the Korean boy band has been making waves around the world for years now, they have accumulated all of their six number-one hits so far in a span of just 13 months. That puts them in elite company.
Seebts and Coldplay cross the galaxy in ‘My Universe’ video, but how come Planet Chromatica didn’t get an invite?
“Dynamite” was their first fully English-language single, and it became their first chart-topper in September 2020. That was followed by two more hits that year and another three in 2021. The only act to accumulate so many number-one singles faster than that were The Beatles, another international...

BTS performed their hit “Dynamite” from a Seoul, South Korea, rooftop at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
The K-pop superstars performed the Be track in synchronized movements underneath a massive ceiling of floral arrangements and sparklers. The performance ended on the rooftop, surrounded by Seoul’s city lights.
After being shut out of the 2020 Grammys, BTS received a nomination this year for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Dynamite,” up against Taylor Swift and Bon Iver’s “Exile,” Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande’s “Rain on Me,” and others. (Gaga and Grande...

Are the Jonas Brothers more popular than BTS? The Billboard Music Awards may answer that question on October 14. These awards are decided not by fans or industry members judging the quality of music. Rather, winners are chosen based on the same commercial criteria that determine the weekly Billboard charts: record sales, online streams, touring performance, radio airplay and social engagement. So which fan-favorite will come out on top in the race for Top Duo or Group by those metrics.
It’s important to remember that these awards were delayed, so they’re judging the eligibility period from March 2019 to March 2020. That means it only includes a few weeks of release for BTS’s album “Map of the Soul: 7,” which dropped in February. And it doesn’t include their chart-topping English-language single “Dynamite,” which came out in August.

BTS treated their fans to a special performance of three of their songs backed by a live band as part of NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert series.
With social distancing measures still in place, BTS couldn’t perform at the actual Tiny Desk at the NPR offices in Washington, D.C., but they made do with a sleek studio space that easily accommodated the seven singers and their backing quartet of musicians.
