"Blah"
joppanLive11 March 2022
If you are expecting a funny movie like "Thannermathan Dinagal", then prepare yourself for utter disappointment. The movie started nicely with a campus /hostel life setup with some nice laughs here and there, and then shift gear to a clumsy love affair and finally end "blah".

Great first half with a slightly meandering second half
krishnan357-33-78257920 March 2022
I didn't go in to this movie with very high expectations. I wasn't a huge fan of the director's last film.

I liked this film more than I expected. The first half was very funny. The college scenes felt genuine and not forced like a lot of other films. In the second half though, it feels like the fim drifts and I didn't feel there was a strong central story. I did like how the movie made fun of the Arjun Reddy/Kabir Singh type of character while making it clear that their actions were not okay.

The performances were very good across the board, especially the main female characters. Overall, it was a nice one-time watch.

I just loved it, simply relatable comedy, overall has a good vibe to it. Songs are good , everyone performed well, well it's not comparable to thaneermathan dinangal still it will make you laugh.

A clumsy, overlong climax spoils a splendid premise & cast!
nidhunmoviebuff11 March 2022
Director Girish AD has a unique gift to extract nonchalant, effortless comedy from the most mundane and routine everyday narratives and he delighted us with this ability in the splendid "Thanneer Mathan Dinangal" (2019). "Super Sharanya" starts off in the same realistic, rooted and fun manner but meanders to a dull watch by the end due to an overlong narrative and a confused climax.

We are taken through the life of "Sharanya", an ordinary student who suffers from culture shock after moving from her rural Palakkad village to the urban confines of her engineering college. How she balances the stresses of her academics, ragging and a string of boys vying for her affection forms the rest of this well-intentioned comedy.

Anaswara Rajan is absolutely on-point and convincing as the high-strung "Sharanya", a far cry from the picture-perfect heroines we are used to in mainstream Malayalam cinema. Here we have an eccentric, moody, clumsy and foot-in-mouth leading lady who will leave us in splits in the opening sequences with her wacky antics. Mamitha Baiju also dazzles as her best friend "Sona", equal parts daring and over-the-top, and delivers some of the most rib-tickling sequences in the film all by herself.

"Super Sharanya" soars in its opening half with its natural, no-holds-barred take on the hostel life of college girls, something that has always either been completely ignored or patronizingly sugarcoated by Malayalam filmmakers. Rosna Joshi and Devika Gopal Nair join Anaswara and Mamitha to make a vivacious quartet that capture the essence of carefree young women, finding their place in the world.

Arjun Asokan is at risk of being typecast, delivering another role where he is an insecure, temperamental and fractious romantic, putting on a delicate balancing act of being endearing and wholesome on the one hand while also displaying shades of the "kalippan" guy making every relationship toxic. Having portrayed similar protagonists in "Wolf" (2021), "Madhuram" (2021) and "Jan. E. Man" (2021), it was downright tedious to watch him repeat the same mannerisms and tropes in this movie as well.

Naslen K Gafoor excels in another supporting role, making optimum use of his natural wit and comic timing. He dominates every scene that he is in, making the viewer wish that his role was meatier in the film. Vineeth Vasudevan is simply brilliant as "Ajith Menon" a splendid spoof of the toxic "Arjun Reddy" trope that has become all too normalized in Indian cinema today and delivers some much criticism of the uber-macho and toxic "forlorn/heartbroken loverboy" themes that dominate college romance films off late.

The music by Justin Varghese deserves praise for introducing us to unconventional tunes and voices and still creating long-lasting impact. "Asubha Mangalakari" and "Shaaru Shaaru" are also superbly shot, with the frames, laced with humour, providing more insights into our characters, while also taking the story forward, organically.

Despite these good elements, "Super Sharanya" squanders an excellent premise and a terrific cast with a shambolic and contrived final act that fails to entertain and justify its unnecessarily long runtime. A well-intentioned romantic comedy that delivers occasional laughs but fails to leverage its clutch of fabulous performers to the fullest. Set your expectations right and you won't be disappointed!

Nice romcom with flaws
Jithindurden26 February 2022
Just like the director's debut Thanneermathan, this is another entertainer that is filled with realistic and relatable situations. Anaswara has improved a lot as an actress but it's Mamitha Baiju and the rest of the Dhaba girls that really steals the show. The Dharavi girl was great but didn't have much time, but I felt like the other girl in the group to be the most realistic character that I have seen multiple examples in real life. It's also commendable that in both these films, the director has shown romances that are clearly immature but not becoming condescending of it. Indian cinema usually shows such relationships either in a very condescending way or show that which starts immature turns into some holy romance. But here he chooses to show it as what it really is nothing more and nothing less, which is much closer to real life and that doesn't really take anything away with such relationships either.

Super Bore
anish-0731924 April 2022
All the old men seems to be interested in only one girl. Felt like watching lolita. There was no chemistry and it was confusing whether the dialogues were jokes or serious. Start was good but the rest was boring and too long.

Good movie with equal flaws.
Couziambatman29 March 2022
Movie starts promising with the acting and the soundtrack. Premise is simple and yet it was engaging enough but towards the end the movie lost its soul. Climax just felt like an end of 1st episode in a 8 episode series. Laughs are there , never the movie makes you yawn.

Another success after Thanneermathan dinagal
rajmohan-568027 January 2022
Great movie to watch with your friends and family. Takes you back to your college days.

The success of this movie has to be owed to the cast as they have an amazing chemistry. This may probably be a big breakthrough for many actors especially the new bubbly Devika !!!!! What a delight.

This movie also represents what a movie is. It need not have all the glitter and stars. A must watch entertainer.

cute little love story
m-ramanan26 May 2022
RATED 7/10 Language: Malayalam Media Partner: Zee5 Superb funny college story with cute little ladies. The first half is full and full fun in ladies hostel moments. Lot of small things done very well. The second half is full of love track. The cute expression and lead pair love egos are told very genuinely.

It was like bit dragged in the second half and bit too much towards on climax.

I enjoyed this slow fun ride.

Sharanya is not super
SAJINCHANDRAN16 January 2022
First half of the movie is interesting but the latter part is utter waste. Even if you leave the theater after interval there nothing much to miss. The direction and cinematography fells like its ok nothing much. Acting also feels like mediocre. Only one song in the first half is good. Nothing much good first half the weary second half make the movie a waste.

not upto the expectations.
riyaroy060612 January 2022
Glorifying stalking, non-consent and stereotypical love. The casting and direction is amazing. But the script is just a flop, nothing new. I really got annoyed in theatre, maybe its because i expected too much as in thanneermathan dinagal.

Better and funnier than Thanneermathan
Akshay_mg8 January 2022
Good writing for a teenage college story.

We haven't seen a girls hostel related movies ever in mollywood so the story felt very refreshing.

Everyone acted very well. Anaswara and Arjun Ashokan combo was unexpectedly satisfying.

It was a nonstop fun ride till the end.

No one can spoof Arjun Reddy this much and produce laugh in theatres.

A big bore!
genisis_tp13 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Let me get this right, so he in love with Sharanya because she did not react to that particular situation? Woww. And people actually loved this?

Mamitha Baiju's character is the only saving grace in this tedious bore of a film.

Romedy film
chocolatesandeclairs12 March 2022
This is absolutely a good film that can be enjoyed by all age groups. Sharanya and Deepu's comedy are the highlight of the film and in the meanwhile there are some problems arose due to Sharanya being a crush of some people. This is not that mundane film which make you think of taking a break from continously watching the film. I watched this film at once.

Just Average movie
paulsonmta6 April 2022
I don't know why the name is super Sharanya. The movie starts in a campus and gives us a good experience, but everything vanished in air soon...Mamita Baiju, a supporting role in the movie is far far better than heroine...Hero and his supporters are nice, there are some funny elements in the movie which are just one time watchable.

In a world of Kabir Singh, be "Super Sharanya"
rohanshete-0939018 June 2022
The movie is genuinely good. In the world of left wing and right wing, this movie gives a fresh breath of air. Lot of scenes in the movie are relatable and are genuinely funny. A really good hearted Rom-com. It's been long since I watched a light hearted Humor like this one and yes, I watch a lot of movies. A must watch movie I must say!

Not worthwhile
maxisnaresh20 March 2022
It striked as a total crappy movie to me. Then again I might not be among the target audience. Mamitha Baiju and Arjun Ashokan did well. The main cast Anaswara was not up to mark.

Waste movie.
anoopalexander-7155115 March 2022
Waste film and a useless theme and script . It doesn't providing any message and felt like no entertainer at all. And this movie meant for nothing. If you want to waste two and half hours time of your life, it's a perfect choice of movie among these types. Better if no-one support these types useless movies otherwise many waste movies may come in future .

anandragavkv12 March 2022
Sharanya actress cast was pathetic... She speaks kannur slang in a stupid way, and her parents talk kannur language(but sounds like Palakkad slang)!!!!! May be script issue.

I found it very Disappointing.
"Super Sharanya" the title itself gives you an impression that the film is bad. Please stop making these type of films when you know it is a stupid script. If you are expecting the film to be good like thanneer mathan dinangal then definitely this will disappoint you. Mamitha Baiju hasn't acted good in the film. Neither did Anaswara Rajan. Please use Anaswara Rajan for some very well scripted films. This college life blah blah cliche shit has been very boring as the audience have changed.

the film wasn't ready for our excitement
ngandacinema2 November 2023
Super Sharanya was that movie we were all looking forward to as the cast and script were fascinating. Perhaps, Super Sharanya wasn't ready for our excitement 🙃 It had so much to offer but unfortunately, couldn't deliver it well

DELICIOUS

-The various characters were so much fun: Arun, Sangeeth, Ajit, and Sharanya's nosy roommates😅

-It was superb to see females take the lead and tell stories through their lens

-Can we just note how charming Naslen K. Gafoor is😍

BLAND

-The movie had a solid beginning, introducing us to Sharanya and her challenges; then, slowly the scenario started dragging and Anaswara Rajan sustained a monotonous facial expression that it became tedious.

Her roommates, as well, kept the same mannerisms that it appeared like we were just watching redundant frames.

Super Sharanya could have definitely been cut shorter

-Having a title like 'Super' attributed to Sharanya, we were expecting an exceptional attitude from Sharanya that would wow and inspire us, but sadly, there wasn't much

-A comic and exhilarating editing would have helped make the film more thrilling and engaging

-Anaswara Rajan appeared too young to be paired romantically with Arjun Asokan who looks more mature.
