This delightful episode of 'Affairs of the Heart' benefits from the light touch of its cast - Sinead Cusack as Bessie Alden, the fortune hunting American, and Christopher Cazenove as Lord Lambeth, heir to a title and seeking something a little more real.
With Dorothy Reynolds and Geoffrey Whitehead in support as Lambeth's mother and best friend, the story unfolds as Lambeth is captivated by Bessie's unconventional ways and straight talk. We think she is definitely making a play for him - but will she succeed in marrying her way into a titled family with their own country house and castle? With a bit more exterior filming than some of the other episodes, 'Bessie' has a lot of humour and, in the person of the Duchess, Lambeth's mother, a classic English snob. Well worth a look.
