Good episode that could have been excellent
milivojb6 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Beware, there will be spoilers in this review.

Well, seeing X-Wing again is great, and the spider chase was a obvious homage to the Alien movie, but since it was done very well, and with stunning visuals, it works. I almost expected a facehugger to jump out of those eggs. Another great thing in this episode is that it has shown us that Mando is not indestructible. because without that unexpected help, he wouldn't make it. Also, baby Yoda is not evil, he (she?) is just a child, and does what any child would do, eat whatever's at hand. Was that necessary, I'm not sure, but it happened, so... My biggest problem with this episode is that it doesn't move the plot forward at all. Not really a filler episode, but more of a standalone adventure. Rating: 8 out of 10.

Impressive

These visual effects are way too good to be a tv show I can't believe it. It does feel like a side episode but is necessary for the story. Genuinely excited for what is yet to come!

The return of episodic tv.....and it's incredible
XTheXXTruthX13 November 2020
Wow. Pulling this level of quality off in a tv show really is raising the bar for genre tv going forward.

The atmosphere and intensity in the ice caves was palpable. Incredible effects and so well paced.

We are blessed just now with this wonderful show.

Brilliant blend of episodic and overarching storylines and a wonderful family show.

Creating wonderful memories watching this with my kids that I know they will remember with the same fondness I remember the original trilogy with.

7.9 rating on IMBD is laughable. This site has jumped the shark.

Another example of the toxicity of Star Wars fans
leobbiagi6 November 2020
My god its getting embarrassing to be a Star Wars fan. They are so toxic and annoying. This was a good episode. Yes it wasn't the best episode ever but it had good moments and set up a lot of stuff. However Star Wars fans are so petty that they are giving this a 1 star review just becasue it didnt advance the plot by a mile. Star Wars fans be better than that. It is a complete disservice to the people that worked hard on this episode just to give it one star. This episode is is probably 8.5 nothing amazing but far form one star.

Not like many other episodes
bharath72016 November 2020
This episode might not give you a thrill but still paved the way for what's going to occur in the further episodes. On the way to Mando's journey, a passenger and the adventures were definitely highlightable. Visuals and score was never meant to be underestimated and likewise, Mando's quest continues

Filler
nathanhalliday-130896 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was clearly a filler which doesn't make much sense to me considering there are only 8 episodes a season and it wasn't even a particularly good filler. The first time The Child ate one of the eggs it was cute if not a little worrying but by the end of the episode he's basically devouring the lizard alien's children in front of her. I know he's an innocent child and it's meant to be funny but come on how many times do they need to overplay the same joke before you actually feel sorry for the poor lizard alien.

Great 40 minutes of tv.
TheFirst016 November 2020
This episode was spectacular, thrilling, beautiful, and hilarious in all the right ways. This might possibly be, because it's directed by Peyton Reed (director of the Ant-Man franchise). The humor really works and the action is straight up solid. In conclusion, I think this show is coming for more Emmys next year. I hope this episode is their submission for best editing if there's no better edited episode this season. I couldn't have been more satisfied with this episode. As the opening shot was shown, I already knew it was gonna be great. Loved the callbacks to previous Star Wars entries too. What a phenomenal second episode to the second season.

Entertaining, yes... Purposeful, no.
Avery-WanSacritic7 November 2020
If you are looking for a way to pass time or to have a relaxing night, this episode would be a good choice. The special and practical effects are superior. There are Easter eggs for the fans. The Star Wars magic is definitely present. However, looking for the next exciting episode in the second season of the Mandalorian, honestly, you might be left bummed out. In the beginning of the episode, the plot moving forward seemed promising. It did not follow through. This episode hardly added to the current storyline and instead had a sidetrack story. It did move toward the overall goal nevertheless. Finally, I'll forewarn some viewers that the main "evil" creatures may be frightening.

SPEECHLESS!
Turanic6 November 2020
Here I am sitting on Friday Morning in Awe... These guys just managed to pull off one of the most impressive Star Wars chases, create a magnificent feeling of NEW REPUBLIC presence and almost do an Alien crossover in remembering the Art of Ralph Mcquire in under 40 min ... The authors of this show will do the work JJ should have done but failed miserably - to create the Sequel Universe we deserve...

It's nice warm-up material for what's to come, but not crucial territory in the slightest.
The Passenger shows two things: that Baby Yoda has an appetite for frog eggs, and that not every episode of The Mandalorian will focus on the A-Story all of the time.

This episode's got gorgeous effects work strung throughout it, but the story was totally 'disposable' in the grand scheme of Season Two's plans for Mando and Baby Yoda.

Nicely directed and all, but it's not must-see Star Wars canon.

Disappointing
patricknorthway6 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The production value of this episode was incredible, it started off very strong. That's what makes this episode so disappointing. This episode lacks story and suffers from a bit of lazy writing. It also made me frustrated with the child, what was intitially quite a cute gag became dark and actually quite cruel. And of course, instead of solving his own problems someone else swoops in to save the day at the last second. After the first episode this episode feels like a waste. The whole story of this episode could be condensed into 5 minutes but they've stretched it out for the sake of television. What a shame. It reminds me of Game of Thrones season 8 and the doom I felt when they used 2 episodes of their 6 episodes on filler. Make the episodes count!

Mindless story
sejanus727 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ruined baby Yoda for many of us, cute little thing eating the eggs was completely pointless & unnecessary.

Writers clearly have no idea about importance of life, maybe their kids should be eaten as well?

9/10. Why the hate?
bobbyfagan-7452911 November 2020
Don't understand the hate this episode is getting, it makes the mandalorian more caring and has some funny moments in it, also the law or code of conduct is honoured by him, it also sets up a relationship with a new species. I think it's a great episode, plus the actual use of practical & CGI is spot on, it's well directed as well, everyone needs watch it it again, it actually adds more to the characters & is a vital episode for character development.

Another awesome episode
rskolek6 November 2020
The Mandalorian is exactly what you want from Star Wars. Non-cerebral fun adventure that uses its rich world. And it fills that role gloriously.

Ignore the people downvoting this episode.
rcosier6 November 2020
Another great episode, admittedly not as great as the first but still action-packed with beautiful cgi and full of tension. it's all you can ask of a Mandalorian episode. Can't wait for next weeks.

Acceptable in some cases, cringy in others.
Adam-092657 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Alot of decent points have already been made by other reviews so just to add on my own shorter opinion.

I'm not annoyed at the fact this weeks story was a little on the shallow side, i'm annoyed on how much cringy comedy they were willing to put in it. I'm sorry but The Child or "Baby Yoda" is starting to become a sell point, his actions were displayed as "cuteness" when in fact he was being unknowingly evil. It was presented to us like we shouldn't care for other characters. Poor frog lady, eating her kids constantly but....it's Baby Yoda, he's too cute to hate right? Yes, i know he's just a child, him eating one egg was cute and innocent, but then it became a replay of a joke that started to make the child become a burden. Or even if i was to accept his little ignorance it started to get a little cheap towards the end for me to keep interested. This isn't Jon Favreau, some other director has used the mass praise for the child and used him to try and sell the episode in an "aww". Also some of the wider shots of the child looked fake, him running into the ship looked more comical than realistic.

The Mandalorian's personality is changing slightly, he went from Bounty Hunter to Comical Dad in the matter of one scene. I'm not asking him to be soulless but the talk with the X-Wing pilots near the beginning turned a little cringy going by Mando's nature from the first season.

Everything else about the episode i actually liked and didn't mind.

The worst episode of season 2
fagpart12 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was by far the worst episode of season two and 100 percent a side quest, mando has to take the frog to a planet where her husband may know of some mandalorians that may know the location of a Jedi. Grogu eating the eggs was cute once but the other times I felt bad for the frog lady. It was still an enjoyable episode but not up to the standards of other mando episodes.

My favorite episode of the series so far...
vh868612 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I see some complaints that this episode was just a filler episode, and while that assertion is correct, let me just remind everyone that the whole series so far has been nothing but filler. Season 1 really only had four episodes that advanced the plot while the rest were merely isolated mission episodes. Rescue a village, Find an assassin, break someone out of prison, and then Season 2 started off with what was basically another Rescue a village episode.

At least episode was more thrilling and subtle to the point where Mando really had his hands full and seemed overwhelmed. As per usual though, the real allure of this show is how good the Star Wars universe looks. I could watch these all day with the sound off and not give two acorns about the story, which is really lacking on the whole anyway.

Give me more episodes like this and I will forget about wanting to know the Child's backstory and why the remnants of the empire want him so bad.

Amusing and effective creature horror
snoozejonc8 November 2020
The Mandalorian runs into trouble while transporting a passenger.

This is an effective monster-of-the-week episode that diverts from the show's main plot to give some action-horror-suspense with a little bit of dark humour.

The basic theme running through the episode is parents protecting children and this is present from the cool opening fight sequence right through to the end. The Child in this series might look cute, but has natural instincts that get him and the Mandalorian into plenty of trouble, which to me feels relatively funny and a bit sick at the same time.

There's not much in the way of performance in this episode as the characters with the most screen time are either heavily costumed, animatronic or computer generated, and of these the Child is definitely the most expressive. There isn't much to the dialogue either but The Mandalorian isn't really noted for that.

Where it succeeds is in its oddness and spectacle. There are a number of suspenseful action sequences that work very well and the parts where Child eats a number of things it shouldn't works for me in a weird way, particularly as a parent where this rings true in life.

As in all episodes the production values are excellent and the show continues to produce highly cinematic spectacle easily worthy of the big screen.

I loved it
jordanskaven8 November 2020
I love it when creators are willing to try something new in an established franchise and this was an amazing showcase for the horror potential in Star Wars, ignore the haters they are just being entitled.

Filler Episode that didn't Need to Happen
eaj-943-8749056 November 2020
C'mon Lucasfilm, save the filler episodes for your animated shows where you don't just have 8 episodes per season. This episode was pretty uneventful. Mando gets a new companion and has to deliver it to some planet, but gets sidetracked so the plot can't progress. Nice music, performances, effects, and Baby Yoda moments, but nothing here story wise.

A lazy episode.
Backwards7109 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The visuals were good but there was no substance. There were a lot of moments that offered themselves to be plot thickening but, ultimately, nothing happened that mattered. Why did the kid eat the eggs? I was waiting for the unforeseen wisdom the kid possessed to explain why the kid ate the eggs... did the force tell it to because it knew the eggs wouldn't survive so it was "incubating" a few only to regurgitate them later to "save the day"? Definitely disappointed with this episode.... it felt like a 15 minute side bar drawn out into an entire episode. I like the interaction with the rebel pilots, but even that felt forced. This episode seems to have no point concerning the series as a whole. Was it just trying to be action packed/cute? Please tell me the creators of the show aren't selling out for the sake of exploiting a "cute" baby Yoda.

This episode was just plain terrible compared to the series as a whole.

Warning: Spoilers
Wish it had been longer. I can't handle spiders though and that made it very hard to watch. Otherwise a decent episode and not bad for a filler spot.
