Feel good movie

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked this movie. Story of the underdog who makes good! Beautiful scenery in Canada's Penticton, BC. I loved the comment to Wesley at the end of the movie about going to Winnipeg and the winters. A little dig as she is actually from Winnipeg! I love the fact that most of the "stars" are in fact Canadians. I thought the actors who were in grade 12 did look appropriate for their ages. Hank was perhaps a little too offbeat but likeable. The lead fella,Mike, is very loveable. I love the way this movie follows through with Mike's growth as a human being. I would watch this movie again. Music in this movie was great!

Surprisingly and heartwarmingly good

This movie has been in my to watch list for a while now. Mostly because I expected it to be a time waster.

Wasn't I pleasantly surprised when not only were the actors great , but the storyline was very solid and kept me hooked for the entire time.

It is a shame that this movie was not promoted more.

Eric McCormick, Louriza Tronco and Daniel Doheny all did an amazing job.

It gave me the Canadian feels to see and hear all the canadian landscapes, music and of course the stereotypes. ")

If anyone is looking for a heart warming and comedic movie ... I would highly suggest trying this one out.

7.4.

Good Canadian content

This showed up in my Prime suggestions so after watching the trailer we decided to watch. They typical Canadian emblems, Timmies and RCMP were included along with a whole lot of Canadian music as part of the soundtrack.

It was predictable, but fun to watch. Proves that Canadians can make a good movie if they try. The movie revolves around the Drinkwater family, Hank and Mike, and their very strange relationship. In comes Wallace, the girl next door, who Mike notices but not the right way. Mike is chasing the wrong girl as he chases a scholarship as well.

Things have a way of working out though as movies usually do. But this was a fun watch and as I said earlier the music was great.

My only complaint was the shot at my hometown, Winnipeg, but what can you expect from BC? LOL.

Coming-of-Age Canadiana Comedy
postofficecb5 November 2023
Meet the Drinkwaters - the quirky father and son from Penticton, BC. The story centres on son Mike's last year in high school, his struggles to find himself, find love and find a future, in spite of a father who is unsupportive, a girl who doesn't notice him, a bully and a school that doesn't appreciate his clever challenges to Bernoulli's principle of flight. But, along the way he meets new neighbour Wallace, an American girl he introduces to Canada and who in turn helps him see past the roadblocks of the past.

Acting was great with particular comedy kudos to Daniel Doheny (Mike) and Eric McCormack (Mike's father Hank), and a winning smile from Louriza Tronco (Wallace).

The amount of work that went into this is really astounding - the details of the costume and design, the many nods to Canada in the writing and setting (filmed entirely in Penticton), the soundtrack which is replete with Canadian bands, and of course the Canadian cast. Although contemporary, it feels like the 80s, from Mike's groaning Gremlin to Wallace's banana seat bike with handlebar streamers. It's total nostalgia.

And it's a feel-good movie. Yes, a bit predictable at times, but sometimes you know what you want.
