Cleans up on the laugher
paudieconnolly1 February 2022
Seems a hard place to begin thinking of making a comedy well played by Greg Davies this has really funny moments and keeps moving at a nice pace really enjoyable and surprisingly funny.

Different and funny
kris-gray11 September 2021
I had no idea what to expect from this first episode. It certainly wasn't HBC.

Humor is a matter of taste, what I find funny many not be by others and visa versa, for example I found nothing to laugh about with 'The Office' and still find Mr. Gervais unfunny. I found this different and it made me laugh a number of times.

HBC was an unexpected guest star as I hadn't read about who would be in it other than Greg Davies, who I have always found to be funny. I'll certainly be watching more.

It's a great new comedy.
Sleepin_Dragon2 October 2021
I have waited a few episodes before reviewing this, as I had no idea which way it was going to go, a few episodes in, and I am hooked.

I don't think we've not been well served with new comedy shows in recent times, the reliance rests with old favourites such as Inside no.9 and Not going out. The Cleaner might just change all that, I can see this running.

The format really does work, and there is no denying the brilliance of Greg Davies, his writing, timing and general talent.

Every episode has a different flavour, there really is a depth of variety, light, dark, and not afraid to have a pop at taboo subjects.

This far, The Aristocrat has been my favourite episode, but I've genuinely enjoyed them all.

Love it, 9/10.

Ridiculous, light and also a bit dark, funny, not serious.
Opinate11 September 2021
I loved the first ep - Greg Davies is his giant sarcastic self and HBC was a total surprise. Loved the musical number - too absurd for words.

It probably won't play to the grumpy highbrow crowd, but if you want a bit of light silly fun and like Mr. Davies give it a shot.

Based on, but, happily, not exactly like Original German version.
dklecan13 December 2021
Love the German version.... Saw it on German TV when I was there. Bought the DVD. The actor is so good, so expressive you almost don't need cc. Has an IMDB high rating of 8.0 plus? I just wish that amazon prime mhz, would show the rest of the seasons. Funny, thoughtful, insightful.

The english version has a similar introduction but unlike the murder mystery show Professor T, in its not an exact duplicate. The stories are unique and funny. The protagnist wrote and starred in this version and stories are completely different and uniquely British. It also doesn't have the paranormal component that the german version has. So you can enjoy both.

Hoped for more content and humor
the_real_smile27 October 2021
This series revolves around a crime scene cleaner, where in every episode he remains at a particular crime scene and has a comical conversation with the resident at that place. The conversation is quit plain, almost boring, with a few jokes in between, I really hoped for more, but it is what is is, not the worse, but certainly not the best show.

Weird and wonderful
taranorton-417109 November 2021
First I'd like to say that very episode isn't as funny as the next but it's weird and wonderful and it doesn't need to be side splitting all the time because the storylines are brilliant.

I don't quite get the bad reviews because you just need to watch it and not think too deep about it, watch it and enjoy it for what it is. This innocent cleaner gets tangled up in these sticky situations.

Remember TAKE IT FOR WHAT IT IS and you'll love it.

Greg Does It Again
wendystenberg21 September 2021
See this for what it is.. a dark comedy sitcom. Each episode got funnier. Greg at his best just being Greg no matter what part he plays. Great character acting from all involved.

Why isn't anything funny anymore?
walkercory17 April 2023
The first series had some great laugh out loud moments, (Xmas special excepted), but for this series it seems the writers have tried to introduce more pathos and navel-gazing. No more physical comedy moments from Greg's buffoonery, now more 'positivity' & reflection. Instead of laughing at a character's predicament, we must now 'feel' for them. Was this supposed to bring more 'depth' to the show? It certainly didn't bring comedy. Whatever the reason - they failed. So now we just get bizarre lonely characters in strange situations, & someone forgot to also make it funny. Stick to the physical comedy, Greg.

Wow - More please
robin_sayer8 November 2021
The UK has an increasing body of works of quality wry dramas written by people we think of as comedians.

People in the reviews giving this 5 stars of less - because it's not 'laugh out loud', 'roll on the floor' funny are missing the point of these sorts of gems.

Peep Show, Inside no.9,Saxondale,Camping, Truth Seekers - and so on.

Nothing ground-breaking, but...
alinadm11 September 2021
I'll admit, I haven't really seen the German series this show is based, on and probably won't despite the good things I've heard about it.

That said, having seen the first episode, I found this to be an okay series. I doubt it's gonna be the next Peep Show or The Office. Nonetheless I found the writing, humour, and performances to be just enjoyable enough to give this show a chance.

Plus Helena Bonham-Carter has yet again failed to disappoint, so...

The rise and Fall of Greg ?
andydwyer-8562915 September 2021
I desperately want to like this as i "was " a Greg Davis fan. In Inbetweeners he was excellent, 1st season of Cuckoo also brilliant, got a little tiresome towards the end, similar story for Man Down. Still like him on Taskmaster although he is bolstered by Alex Horne and the guests. But this is pitiful, 1st episode such forced humour !!, second episode even David Mitchell couldn't change the monotony !! Gave up 10 mins into 2nd episode.

Sorry Greg but i think it is time to get some better writers !!

Great mix of humour and depth
mail-228-65499913 September 2021
If you've enjoyed Greg's stand up or Man Down in the past then you should find plenty to enjoy, as each episode has some great gags and every now and then a little depth creeps into the story and catches you by surprise. There are also some great guest spots.

I can only assume that some negative reviewers are not fans of his humour - we watched the first 4 in one sitting and like it a lot :-)

Is this a remake of the German show "crime scene cleaner"
railronin-580-94937226 November 2021
It's funny but the German show is the best. Schotty was hilarious and witty .I think I will give this British version a try to see a fresh perspective.

High Praises From America
wishingaccomplished12 September 2021
I simply love everything UK and Greg Davies by shear height alone tops my list. Taskmaster is my comfort noise.. Greg never fails to take me away from my ever growing disappointment of reality here in the USA. From mock the week (not sure he's been on there, just another great show), to 8 out of ten cats, ** does countdown... Channel hoping with john richardson.. psychoville, the league of gentlemen.. faulty towers etc (my UK TV WATCHING RUNS DEEP)

BRAVO UK!!! And this show is no different.. I can play these shows in the background over and over and over and still watch them like they were new everytime.. UK You comfort me. Thank you.

PS*** I'd love to see Greg Davies On It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia !!***

Imagine giant 6' 8" Greg Davies character with his lovable cluelessness slowly sending Dennis Reynolds into a rage.

POETRY.

Strong first episode.
nmthomas-2048619 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This gets brownie points for using a disabled actress when so many able bodied actresses and actors are used in place of those with disabilities.

Also, the opening episode is brilliant - seeing Helena was a definant pull into watching the rest of the series.

Sure, the laughs aren't thick and fast. Some other reviews point at the overuse of woke culture but in all honesty I think the script writers are going for a tongue in cheek way of conveying wokeism.

Surprisingly David Mitchell wasn't as good as he usually is but that's a small critique, perhaps was the episode structure. The use of misplaced slapstick humour with a cat randomly attacking the cleaner was irritating.

Overall its fluff and fun!

Hilarious. Ignore the toffs - this is funny as.
bjhardy11 September 2021
Great cast, and well crafted. Each episode I'm guessing will feature a guest star and Greg's character will gradually reveal himself. It's the one liners though that are so good.

Just doesn't work
Makkers127 September 2021
Greg Davies. Bless. He's had a fair crack at comedy but even he should've stopped this at the first 10 minutes of ep 1. If you're going to mix a real life vocation with mirth then make everything else believable. No point in giving us an education on what a 'cleaner' does and then everything else going around the crime doesn't becomes absurd. The comedy waned I'll be quite frank. HBC, my word, she must be desperate for work if she had to humiliate herself like this. Paul Choudhury, he was as unfunny as his stand up. Move on, nothing to see here.

The Cleaner
jboothmillard7 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I heard the positive feedback for this sitcom, and I am a big fan of the star of Taskmaster, I didn't know fully what it was about, but I was definitely up for it. Basically, Paul "Wicky" Wickstead (Greg Davies, also writing) is a crime scene cleaner, a government-certified cleaning technician with plenty of chemicals, liquids, solvents, cloths, and tools to do the job. Wicky is responsible for the removal of any signs of death, including blood and body parts, from crime scenes. These crimes include murder, accidental death, suicides, burglary and much more. In the course of his work, Wicky gets to know a variety of people somehow connected to the crime he is cleaning up. These crimes include the husbands/wives of victims, the culprits, relatives and friends, neighbours, and many others. Wicky is a professional, but ends up in embarrassing, awkward or bizarre situations whilst trying to his job, making sarcastic comments, or saying or doing the wrong thing, often with consequences. Also starring Zita Sattar as Ruth, with Helena Bonham Carter as Sheila, David Mitchell as Terence Redford, Ruth Madeley as Helena, Stephanie Cole as Vivien Hozier, Donald Sumpter as Sir James, Bad Education's Layton Williams as Hosea, Jo Hartley as Maggie, Paul Chowdhry as Man Boy, Shobu Kapoor as Neeta, Georgie Glen as Mrs. Gathernoid, and Bill Skinner as Mickey Boy. Davies is terrifically funny as the title character, and the guest stars are always well chosen, the writing is really smart and witty, and the messy (literally) situations the character finds himself are hilarious, it is a funny and enjoyable sitcom. Very good!

Unwatchable
crestivo-5990820 March 2022
Lost 20 minutes of my life trying this out. Husband and I watched with a kind of horror at how crass and wooden it was. Gag after gag - we felt a bit sick in the mouth. Not because of the gore, but because of the delivery of the lines and naff characters. Then appeared Helena Bonham Carter, a real misfit because she acted well. Husband and I tried for a few more minutes and then agreed it was irredeemable.

Not a 10....9....or an 8. But enjoyable. Funny. Looks like a fun set to be on. Also is Greg that tall or is everyone just short.

Watch the German Original. So much funnier!
richmann-2834221 September 2021
This copy of the original series does not have any of the chuckles and smiles I had when I watched "Crime Scene Cleaner" on MHz Choice a few years ago. Not even a good try. Get free months subscription and see for yourself.

Love it!
watsoft708 October 2021
He has the balance of darkness/humour just right with this production and has some brilliant supporting actors. Great writing, great acting, great product...well done!

Greg's teacher in The Inbetweeners was fabulous and I have always enjoyed him on panel shows, but Man Down was OTT cack! This though is quality through and through and I'm enjoying every episode.

The only other British comedy that has been worth a watch recently is Ghosts...check it out.
