Min's return
ShadeGrenade22 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The final episode ( though no-one knew it would be that at the time ) has Alf continuing to enjoy his new-found wealth. A expensive snooker table occupies his living room ( leading to a few sight gags reminiscent of the 'Steptoe & Son' classic 'Pot Black' ). Fred Johnson is Alf's new boarder, which creates a problem as 'Min' ( Patricia Hayes ) shows up and, once again, makes herself at home. Her senile, incontinent sister 'Gwenneth' passed on three years earlier ( as indeed had Irene Handl, who played the role ). There is more trouble on the way for Alf as the bank manager ( John Normington ) shows up at the flat with a man ( Richard Syms ) from the Inland Revenue. Desperate, Alf resorts to a not-very convincing disguise...

This is a flat conclusion to the series, although it is good to have Min back. Having heard of Alf's wealth, she wants a share of it. Mr. Johnson living with Alf is a great idea, and would have provided a decent foundation on which to build a seventh series. The BBC had other ideas though, and let Alf be stuck in limbo. Its reasonable to assume that from here on, he would have been penniless again. The origin of the money in the wardrobe is revealed to belong to a gangster ( whom we never see ) named MacDonald. It would be nice to know how Mac came to lose the wardrobe in the first place.

Funniest moment - Johnson's tirade against his unfaithful wife, which concludes with him rushing angrily out of the flat like a mad bull. Ken Campbell is simply amazing.

So once again Alf was forced to change channels, moving first to UK Gold and then ITV = with decidedly mixed results.
