“The score had to match the scope of the project. It’s a giant show. It’s a giant story,” explains composer Alex Belcher about composing the ambitious score for the global espionage thriller “Citadel.” For our recent webchat he adds, “it’s an international story that takes place all over the world in so many genres as well. We’ve got thriller aspects, comedy aspects, tons of action, tons of espionage. So, it’s a big undertaking and going into that opening section, it was like, Ok how do we convey to the audience right out of the gate? This is a big show, and it’s going take you on a big wild ride,” he says, admitting, “I probably spent more time on that opening three to five minutes than I have on anything else I’ve ever written.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

A good spy thriller has to have the two staple ingredients: a killer concept headed by a credible protagonist and an antagonist. That said, we are all assured that the cinematic value of espionage thrillers will never be lost.
Having offered some of the greatest action movies in cinema history, and giving us convoluted stories, smart plot twists, blasts, flare-ups and umpteen bangs, ideally, a spy thriller packs in so much as to keep you on the edge of your seat.

In the run-up to the release of the Amazon Prime Video spy series he produced, "Citadel," filmmaker and armchair Nostradamus Anthony Russo made the preventable mistake of becoming Film Twitter's main character. When asked about the future of AI, Russo predicted that emerging technologies could soon "engineer storytelling" to a viewer's preference and curate a personalized storytelling journey. What "Citadel" poses is perhaps a more immediately insidious possibility — a world where humans writing television have already internalized algorithmic consumption patterns to produce something robotic and mechanical of their own volition.
If you've heard anything about "Citadel" by now, their years-in-the-making spy saga announced before the release of "Avengers: Endgame," it probably has something to do with its troubled production and bloated budget. This tale of a cross-national network of agents devoted to averting major global crises with no fidelity to a single government also represents the first in a series of building blocks.

Imagine for a moment that in the late 2000s, Marvel did not simply announce a movie about Iron Man, but that they would simultaneously go into production on Captain America, Thor, and Avengers films, with even more in immediate development, and that these would be among the most expensive movies ever made. In hindsight, we know this would have worked out well. (Well, maybe not the expense part.) But at the time, no one knew that audiences would be interested in any of these films, let alone that they would...

When the highly anticipated spy series “Citadel” was announced on Prime Video, it had all the ingredients of a successful action thriller. Take a global conspiracy with a war between two mysterious and powerful organizations and add two international stars cast as elite-level spies (who occasionally sleep together), topped with high-octane fight scenes liberally.
But “Citadel” relies so heavily on rapid exposition and quick dialogue that instead of the expected sequence of flavorful courses, we’re being fed the entire meal at once.
The series follows Agents Mason Kane (Richard Madden) and Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), agents of a secret organization called “Citadel” that’s “bound to no man or government” and fights to keep the peace from the shadows. Unfortunately, the agents get burned on a routine op and lose their memories. The pair fight to remember who they are and who sold them out to Manticore, a...

Prime Video’s big-budget new spy thriller Citadel has released its official trailer.
The drama is executive produced by the Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame) and showrunner David Weil (Hunters), and stars Richard Madden (Bodyguard) and Priyanka Chopra Jonas (Quantico).
The show’s trailer was previously announced to debut earlier this month, but then it was delayed following a train crash in Greece (the trailer includes an action sequence aboard a luxury train).
Citadel is conceived as a potential franchise starter: An Avengers-style global adventure where spies from several countries came together for the ultimate mission. Previously, The Hollywood Reporter detailed how Citadel‘s budget ballooned to more than $200 million for its seven episodes amid cost overruns and creative differences. The behind-the-scenes drama led to a round of pricey reshoots and writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec being replaced by Weil. The project follows the Russo Bros’ spy thriller Gray Man...

Spanish filmmaker Carlos Vermut has never been one to shy away from difficult subjects or characters, whether it be cruel kidnappings or heartbreaking suicides, his methodical and considerate touch gives more insight and power to the brutality of his character's lives. It's no wonder that his latest film, Manticore, would tackle one of the most taboo subjects, and as usual, with Vermut's signature style that will leave much of its audience reeling in shameful fascination. Julián (Nacho Sánchez) is a graphic modeller for a video game company, creating the kind of monstors and creatures that gamers love to battle. In his social life, he is painfully shy, living in a fair-sized apartment, working from home as often as possible, and...
