Great beginnings do not always make great endings - ask Game of Thrones?

Warning: Spoilers
OK so it's only season #1 and it looks like there's going to be at least another one, so might as well grab the popcorn and check it out since I like Sci Fi and hadn't seen anything much about it yet, so was intrigued. The beginning sucked me in with excellent acting and an intriguing premise that reminded me of an android Adam and Eve in the promised land. Then the flashbacks helped fill in the back story as they grew their colony and saw it begin to fail. The complications that really begin with the arrival of other humans is where it begins to take off in a run, but eventually stumbles and falls into the old Adam & Eve met a FLYING SERPENT trope that broke the spell for me. WHY RIDLEY WHY? The possibilities were already endless with survival, religion, politics of a colony with assorted children, WHY DID WE NEED ANOTHER MONSTER when the HUMANS WERE MONSTERS ALREADY? Not to mention the dog-sized creatures that eventually emerged, there was enough there without the flying serpent, so that was a really disappointing element that basically made you forget all the good that went before. Well much of it, I still loved the acting, hated all the dark cinematography, but will likely check in on the next Season to see if it goes how I THINK it will go...namely the flying serpent brings down the new spaceship that just arrived on the planet & then goes through the humans and other creatures feasting away until there's nobody left. Unless Mother finds her warrior eyes and kills it with her screams? Or they activate the black fire thingie? Since I really don't like monster shows/movies if I see it going that way I'll stop watching. So many possibilities and the setup was so good, I'm on the fence about watching another season so we'll just see how busy I am when it comes out!
