No Mercy 2008 Thoughts
No Mercy 2008 was the 11th No Mercy event produced by the WWE. It took place October 5, 2008 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. Attendence was at 9,527 with Buyrate at 261,000. Event also had a few major stars out of action. Cena & Orton were out with injuries and Edge was in a brief hold due to possibly leaving the WWE for a lighter schedule of TNA.
7 matches were set up on the card including one of the best feuds of the year; Shawn Michaels vs. Chris Jericho. They ended with a final showdown for the World Heavyweight Championship in a ladder match. Triple H defended the WWE Championship against Jeff Hardy in what made a great storyline of Jeff Hardy being always 1 step behind. Basically so close to accomplishments but never reaching.
The Good - Both the world title matches were terrific matchups. It's usually great when 2 matches close the show that are both Instint Classics. The Ladder match was no doubt one of the best matches of 2008 and possibly one of the best standard ladder matches in history. I also liked the back and forth use of a weapon the two legends used for the ladder. Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H also was a great match. The mini heel tatics used by HHH (despite being a face) was pretty clever to get more pop for Jeff Hardy. At the time it looked like they were pulling a trigger. I also like to compliment the Big Show vs. Undertaker match for a having a rare fun matchup between 2 Super giants.
The Meh - Mid Card was a little questionable. I didn't care for the Women's Championship or Batista vs. JBL match due to timing. They weren't bad by any means. They were just short and not that memorable. Kane vs. Rey was getting a little interesting but the DQ finish was lame.
The Bad - No particular bad match. However the most pointless thing of this show was undoubtedly the segment. I really don't like segments on PPVs.
Overrall - I think the main events were a big boost to the show in terms of giving the crowd and viewers worth time to spend on. Show might not look tremendous on paper but it delivered.
Score - 7 out of 10: Good
