This is the best thing I've ever seen. And the best end in the history of TV. And the best character is Lelouch. Masterpiece.

Best Ending to an Anime
unkommon1 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Of the many things to say about Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (and R2) the least would be that it does very little in the way of a typical anime. Sure it hits some of the big marks (mech, action, busty women, impossible protagonist), but what it does that's different is was makes it such a good show. For all of the "triumphs" Lelouch sees, he often finds a series of setbacks or drawbacks. Suzaku always spoils the party, he has to make tough, despicable calls, etc. There's always another rung to the ladder in his ascent to success. There are a lot of times where it's hard to sympathize with him, where you're maybe even rooting for the other side; other times, uneasy alliances are made, characters are betrayed, a character you like might stab a character you love in the back. Such is the tumultuous 50 episodes of Code Geass.

There are hints during the final act that Lelouch has a much bigger plan than what he lets on, as well, his marauding is quite against his normal behavior. He may come across as smug or pretentious at times (especially as Zero), but to rule the world is just too much. What his masterplan is, what the endgame is, though remains to be seen until the final moments of the show. Which is a blessing and a curse. It wraps the story up neatly, but it would have been nice to get a further taste of the world Lelouch and Suzaku created, but we only get around a minute or so of it and that is a bit of a shame.

What really makes this episode so ascendant, however, is the fact that this show is so unpredictable, and so consistent in its unpredictability and quality throughout that having a final episode so on the money and so cathartic is a testament to Code Geass and the writers. It could have sucked a thousand different ways, but they crafted a fantastic conclusion to a fantastic series. One that will certainly be looked back on in the decades to come as one of the masterworks of anime.

10/10.

Perfection
simondk-7357316 February 2021
Code Geass is a show that can seem like a complete mess when you're watching it the first time. A lot of the characters and plot threads can seem weird and pointless until somehow everything clicks with the final episode and you're able to look back at all the chaos and see how perfectly woven so many of the threads are.

The show isn't perfect by any means, but the ending is.

Warning: Spoilers
I now understand why this is known as the best ending in anime, because it is the best I've seen so far. Just so emotional and unpredictable. And everything that didn't make sense with his dictator moments and facade all add up. A selfless way to go but done by the mean of selfish acts and a selfish wish to change the world. He truly broke the wheel of hatred as everyone could pin it on him. Destroying and re creating the world. Making a better one. He did what he wanted for Nunally but can't share it with her.

Best anime ending ever
superteamvann25 December 2020
Never before has an ending for an anime blown me away like this one. The last time I watched this was a few years ago, and going back after all this time, I can safely say the ending holds up as well as the anime itself!

The Best Ending in History
BadgerStorm43454 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
No Ending in any show has ever been this unexpected. Nothing can ever top this genius of an ending. LeLouch's ability to manipulate situations eventually was more helpful than his Geass in the end. His death was incredibly sad but also I was happy at how good they executed it. Suzaku, CC and Kallen all have fantastic endings as well but LeLouch is one of my favorite characters of all time in part due to this episode.

One Piece & AOT Fans are Pathetic
Mxdaraa18 September 2023
I think it was only 2 weeks ago that this episode still had a rating of 9.9/10, which it rightfully deserves. This is the perfect ending to a brilliant anime with an insane plot twist, a 9.9 was only fitting. And it has kept this rating for many years, until now... In case you don't know, One Piece fans and Attack on Titan fans have basically been at war this past year, fighting over which show is better, has higher rating, etc.

So basically One Piece fans and AOT fans started review bombing each others episodes, rating their newest episodes a 1/10, even though said episodes were most of the time objectively good. The newest Attack on Titan episode went from a rating of 9.7/10 to a rating of 9.4/10, having a total of 5K 1 star ratings. Then One Piece episode 1071, a very highly anticipated episode, got review bombed by AOT fans, having a rating of 9.0/10, with 4.6K 1 star ratings. I personally find this kind of behavior childish, especially as someone who enjoys both of these shows. Now, it seems Anime fans in general have decided that no anime is allowed to have a episode with a 9.9/10 rating, so for some reason they started going after anime, like Code Geass, that had nothing due to with this conflict and review bombing them. Now this episode sits at a rating of 9.8/10, with almost 1K 1 star ratings... As of now, the only anime that still has a 9.9/10 episode, is Vinland Saga, but I doubt that'll last.

Anyway, I just needed to get this of my chest. Another thing is I don't hate AOT or One Piece, both are fantastic shows, but their fanbases are or act like a bunch of immature children.

Best ending episode to any anime I've seen Warning: Spoilers
Such a solid ending. Like, actually beautiful. I recommend Code Geass to people primarily because of this one episode. This finish was clearly planned from the start and foreshadowed in so many ways, and yet still surprising and satisfying.

Honestly, it's so nice to have an ending that isn't nihilistic but also doesn't seem cheesy at all. It's a difficult thing to pull off but is just done so so well here. Thank you Code Geass writers, you guys totally killed it.

Great ending to a fantastic & influential anime
shakedatjunk3 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was the best episode for sure. Fat tears.

Code Geass is one of those shows that you can watch for a multitude of reasons depending on your mood and taste, kind of like Attack on Titan. This show is in many ways the precursor to Attack on Titan. It has many ideas and themes and plot similarities that AoT has ended up having, and after seeing this ending it is very much seeming like Eren's goal is very similar.

This show has had consistently good writing balancing mystery, a great protagonist, super natural/sci-fi, and politics along with it. All along with throwing in some mech battles. Most of the mech battles throughout the show I'd give around a 5/10 you can tell they didn't have the biggest budget for action and fight choreography, however in the second half of season 2 a lot of the mech battles were quite good and much of the action was using lots of very cool blasts and colors with very pretty animation. You can tell the animation was slightly better across the board in season 2. But you're not necessarily watching this show for the mech battles even though they do add an extra element of entertainment(also like AoT albeit AoT had amazing action). This show is heavy plot driven and protagonist driven and both of them are very strong. Lelouch is definitely one of the best protagonists of all time and the overall story here is one of the most well written and cohesive in anime to go along with very cool sci-fi ideas.

The first season I'd give an 8.5/10, second season I'd give a 9.5/10. Again this episode had me in tears and I surely was fooled even though I knew who was going to die in the end, I had absolutely no idea how we were going to get there. This show is great and influential, got better as it went on. Both seasons had superb final quadrants. AoT is my favorite anime of all time and I gotta think Isayama has seen this show. For that I give it even more props.

9/10 overall for the show.

This ending is unfair.
ThePleb7 April 2021
Pff- if you watched Code Geass and enjoyed it even slightly, then this ending was about as perfect as it can get.

Absolutely incredibly written. The audience knew what needed to happen; however, that inevitability was something we all secretly hoped wouldn't happen.

The series may have had it's bad parts, but the ending is spectacular.

Just perfect. Every single piece of Code Geass converge in this episode. Spectacular evolution of the main characters. In retrospective, this episode makes you value the anime. Memorable, one of the best ever.

Generic and mediocre ending
jackhooge-8781925 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's supposed to a 5/10 but the animation was well crafted so I added 2 on the rating, ok back to business why are people saying this is the greatest ending ever, to answer the question it's because Lelouch dead in a cringe worthy way and everything after that became kittens and rainbows(lmao), in a writing prospective this ending is mediocrity at it's finest, a 9.9 rating seems stupid if you ask me but the Lelouch fanboys will keep it that way no matter what even if the ending doesn't make sense it's all for Lulu ( hahahaha)

This was just beyond perfect. I totally did not see this coming. Zero Requiem sums up why Code Geass is a masterpiece. It's been years since I saw this anime and this moment still sticks out.

Perfect ending to an imperfect show
stw-0730625 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the episode that makes the entire rollercoaster of Lelouch's journey well worth the ups and downs and questionable moments. This ending was built on everything that the show has built up, stays 100% in-line with what we expect of our characters, yet subverts our expectations in such a tragic, satisfying sacrifice.

While I wouldn't re-watch most of the episodes from Code Geass, this episode will always get me emotional. The soundtrack, voice acting (both English and Japanese), animation, and characterization could not have been executed any better in this episode.

It was nice to see an open ending with C.C. "talking to Lelouch" on the back of the carriage. This sparked much discussion in the community, though the 3 recap movies from the late 2010s and the sequel movie took away this open ending to continue the story and show us the international fallout of Lelouch's actions and sacrifice.
