To everyone around them, Black Butler’s Ciel Phantomhive and Sebastian Michaelis are simply an earl and his loyal butler. However, there’s much more to the duo than meets the eye. On top of carrying out orders for the Queen (such as their mission to investigate Weston Academy in Black Butler -Public School Arc- ), Sebastian is actually a demon tied to Ciel, carrying out his master’s orders with perfect efficiency until the day he can devour the young lord’s soul. Related: How to Watch Black Butler in Order That might seem like a bad deal, but could you imagine having Sebastian at your beck and call? From doing the dishes, cooking dinner, drawing you a bath at night or eliminating any of your foes ( hopefully that’s not something you need!), Sebastian completes his orders with absolute perfection. Black Butler , created by Yana Toboso, is a dark, supernatural story full of twists, turns and one hell of a butler . Black Butler centers on Ciel Phantomhive and his quest for revenge after surviving the tragic murder of his family. With the dashing and demonic butler, Sebastian Michaelis, now in his service, the series manages to be humorous and devastating at the same time. The anime adaptation of the manga started back in 2008 and had multiple seasons, several OVAs and a theatrical movie. While the manga continued, the anime didn't have another release since that movie in 2017 ( Black Butler: Book of the Atlantic ). Farewell to Funimation: Fan-Favorite Streaming Service Shuts Down as Crunchyroll Merger Is Completed
For many fans in the West, particularly in the United States, Funimation has been the ultimate anime source for years. In fact, we can say freely that Funimation actually raised a generation or two of anime lovers, as it was one of the most reliable anime sources online. And while Funimation always had a smaller library than Crunchyroll and there were issues regarding the site’s geographical restrictions, the streaming service was a household name and that is why many fans were sad when it was announced that Crunchyroll had bought Funimation and that the two services would be merging.
The merger has been executed through several phases, and in April 2024 it has finally been completed, as Funimation officially shut down, with Crunchyroll remaining as the sole streaming service. Earlier, Funimation was still accessible, but in a limited way, but the Funimation era is now officially over and while Crunchyroll promised a smooth transition,...

It’s already been a good 2024 for anime. Most notably, you have “The Boy and the Heron” winning Best Animated Feature at the Oscars, making for the first anime film to win the prize since another Hayao Miyazaki classic, “Spirited Away,” did so back in 2002. But outside of that big accomplishment, the year has also birthed a ton of great shows already, with a strong winter 2024 season that included great new shows like “Delicious in Dungeon,” “Bucchigiri,” and “Sengoku Youko.”
If Winter 2024 was a great start, Spring 2024 promises to be even more packed. That’s mainly because two of the biggest series currently ongoing are debuting their new seasons this April, the type of blockbuster series even non-anime fans might have heard of. Premiering its seventh season and 139th episode, “My Hero Academia” — an action series about the exploits of students at an academy for superheroes — will release on...

Even if you're only passingly familiar with manga and anime, I'd bet that you've heard of "Fullmetal Alchemist," a modern classic of both mediums. First authored by Hiromu Arakawa and adapted to animation twice, all versions follow the titular alchemist, Edward Elric, and his little brother Alphonse. Mutilated when they tried to revive their dead mother, they're now on a quest to get their bodies back by finding the Philosopher's Stone. Along the way, they face obstacles ranging from a military dictatorship to ouroboros-tattooed homunculi.
"Fullmetal Alchemist" is not my all-time favorite manga or anime, but it is my favorite Shōnen series. What is that? A Japanese term referring to boys' media. Think "Dragon Ball," "Naruto," or "One Piece." They all fit under this umbrella.
Many of these series are published by the same magazine, Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump, but not "Fullmetal Alchemist." If you've ever wondered why the...

Dating can be both a heartache and a headache. You keep trying and trying to find someone who shares some sort of connection with you, go through all the anxious rituals of texting and calling and trying to keep it together when you run into them, trying to find an excuse to ask them out. That could all be for nothing if you end up getting ghosted.
But what if your date was actually a ghost, or a ghoul, or even a god?
Maybe they’re a superhero. Maybe you’re both superheroes. In anime, it usually doesn’t matter, because you can have the power to defy gravity or slay demons and still break down when you so much as hear the name of your crush. From doing embarrassing things for attention to finding yourself in a really uncomfortable love triangle, almost anything can get between you and whoever is on your mind.

Courtesy of the Covid-19 pandemic, the entertainment industry is currently in shambles. Netflix has provided an exceptionally strong collection of content for subscribers to enjoy in September. As a matter of fact, the inclusion of dozens of fantastic original shows and films alongside tons of memorable classics has made it it one of the platform’s best months ever. But today marks the end of a great run for the streaming giant before October’s big releases start up tomorrow, and while most of the best stuff has already landed earlier in the month, this final gift of new additions still has something left to offer.
Today’s most notable release is the film adaptation of the 1968 Broadway play The Boys in the Band. Black Butler is the translated name of Kuroshitsuji.
