Entertaining, yes. Smart, not so much.

There is no point rewriting the plot again, so I'll just tell you my thoughts, and where this episode fails.

The pacing, overall plot, set designs, cinematography, costumes, and mood are all very exceptional. It's very entertaining, in line with the first season. But I feel the TVish-ness bleeding through.

This episode feels as if this was written hurriedly, and asks the audience to not question the massive holes and the strategy of the villain. There are moments where it insults the viewers intelligence with how little follow-up questions the protagonists ask during interviews, how quickly they are able to transport about town in key moments, how poorly they communicate, etc. It's suffocates under its own weight of 'scriptedness'.

There are so many moments in this episode, where the villain's diabolical maneuvers could have gone awry with any tiny variable it encountered. It leaves the viewer thinking back on the episode with all kinds of questions and confusion in the villain's plan.

Several of the evil cop characters are caricatures, and I found myself laughing out loud by their twirling mustache behavior.

I would love to give the show a higher rating, because I love what it's trying to do. There's a freshness to their take at a cloak and dagger show in this time period and setting. But unfortunately there are elements in the execution that keep it from being an A or B level show.

A spellbinding watch.

Max and Oskar are on the lookout for a brutal killer, who's killed an unidentified man in a very brutal fashion. The pair hope a young beggar girl can help them.

Truly, this was one of the best things to come out of 2021, one of the best things I've seen all year, very definitely a 10/10, this was captivating, gripping, had a few funny moments, and one of the most decadently beautiful things I have ever seen. The location work adds to the overall quality.

I thought the story was first rate, so engrossing, the opening was so intriguing, and that quality never dipped. The ending came as a real surprise. Very Sherlock once again.

Plenty of jokes about Max and Oskar being joined at the hip, very funny.

We're even treated to some Chopin, this was seriously brilliant 10/10.

A badly mutilated corpse found by a girl living rough leads to a treaty signing ceremony being put at risk relating to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Only Oskar Rheinhardt can identify a would be assassin and he has been called into help Austrian secret service.

They are not pleased that Oskar had bought Max in tow. Max has built a psychological profile of the would be assassin. A man who seems to be too keen to help out Oskar.

There were several jokes about how Oskar and Max are always together. I did like how Oskar's boss was cut down to size.

Writer Steven Thompson worked with Steven Moffat on both Doctor Who and Sherlock.

Elements of the way the story is told is linked to both shows especially A Study in Pink.
