Funny, sweet and never sappy
michaelb_mannheim17 January 2021
The series is really heartwarming, great played and all over in a good quality. In some aspects it's also a view into japanese society and business with surprising moments. I really liked it and recommend it. It has the magic to show a deep love story without getting cheesy.

Wholesome
geckopizzaart6 January 2021
The best way I can describe this series is just wholesome. Since it is based off of a shounen ai manga there is nothing but wholesome goodness. The acting was actually a lot better than I thought it would be. Minato's, presumably, wig always threw me off, but I suppose they weren't about to go ruin their hair for a series as short as this. My only qualm is that you never actually see them kiss? I've noticed this to be a reoccurring theme in Asian BL dramas. They always get as close as one could get to the final moment, the top of the ark, and they just hover. It could be because of Asia's strict laws on televising LGBTQ+ content (seen from China's laws on gay content) and censorship of indecent acts. Honestly, there wasn't much more to it, but I definitely enjoyed all of it in its entirety and would recommend to any mlm content.

AMAZING ACTING, BEST BL SERIES THAT I WATCHED SO FAR
atakancakmak-2083817 January 2021
Lately, I watched lot of BL series and I have to confess this is the best one so far. Only part that I don't like there is no kiss scene for whole episodes. Gosh I waited to see that!

I love this series! I love each character portrays reality of a persons feeling. How our insecurities affects us. It is not only just a BL series it is something we should look forward. It is so easy and funny to watch. In a times like this, something to make you smile is really a great deal.😊

thank you for opening my heart once again
madkizulfikar2 December 2020
I really hate romantic drama, because in my life, never dating and had bad experience of love rejection many times, and looked down on myself in 1 decade. I often run from romance and only look at the sensuality and eroticism side. This film with fresh and very interesting ideas plus professional acting, slightly opened my cold heart to imagine the beauty of love, two-way relationship dating. intelligent director who is experienced in making cheerboy films who make this drama androgynous, we do not face gender issues in love, the element of conscience which is usually rarely used in this drama can be the main weapon, the screenwriter is also great at negotiating with original comic writers and adding the storyline is important. after a long time I fell in love, I can feel them expressing feelings of love and feel the warm hug and the beauty of dating, I can watch this many times without getting bored. in the last episode I want to have a happy story maybe getting married or living together as lovers. thank you for opening my heart to try to love someone once again, this drama deserves to be a movie or a second season

Sweet and Charming and Clever
ekeby28 October 2020
At this writing only three episodes have been released, but it's enough to see the quality of the production. It almost feels like a film, especially if you are used to Thai or Pinoy etc, BL series. This just feels more - well I want to say professional but that's not quite right-accomplished and thoughtful. From acting to cinematography to editing.

It feels substantial, even though the plot is fantasy. The office / workaday setting somehow gives the series more gravitas than most BL fantasies. The characters seem real and genuine and we cannot help being drawn in emotionally.

I realize It's a little irresponsible to write a review based on just three episodes of a 12 episode series. And I'll revisit this when the series finishes. But frankly, I couldn't wait to share my enthusiasm.

Side note: it's not clear to me whether there is an official version with English subtitles. I've seen two differently translated versions of the same episode, and there was considerable difference between them. One was more succinct, the other more fleshed out. In BL land, it's kind of the wild west when it comes to bootlegged copies and subtitles. I hope that an official version becomes widely available soon.

This drama must have a second season and a film, because it is so good
madkizulfikar2 December 2020
The strength in this drama is that the two main actors immerse themselves in the role very naturally, the director maintains their unique style of play in their drama. the office environment is an important setting that makes the story very natural and the element of speaking in the heart is the main weapon to attract the emotions of the audience, this drama comes from a comic, but this playwright has added a lot of good things, usually a drama with a gay theme will only end with the dominant eroticism side or bromance awkwardness that makes it annoying, this drama tells a love story that releases gender identity in romance. This drama is a breakthrough that can be widely accepted in the Asian global market. I hope there is a second season or a special film, of course with a mature plan and can take stories from other comics. this is the best drama of 2020.

SO GLAD I CAME ACROSS IT...
ikforever14 March 2021
I recommend this series to someone who wants to enjoy a really sweet and heartwarming lovestory, great acting and chemistry between actors and an amazing plot adaptation.

Getting to know about what the story was going to be all about, I found it cliched and didn't expect any better from an adaptation, but man was I thrown off!!

Generally in bl series more focus is put on explicit scenes between men rather than the plot and relationship development itself, thats why I never liked watching them that much, but this is like the complete opposite, there is this slow burn and a really beautiful love story and the best part was the way it was portrayed and blended with the main plot. Many may argue that there weren't explicit scenes so it was a let down, but honestly I didn't feel there was a need for that. The chemistry between the mls was soooo good and natural with no cheesiness whatsoever which was surprising considering its a bl series, you could tell how deep and sincere the feelings were without them actually having to show it.

Kudos to the actors, the director and the entire team of Cherry Magic for creating such a beautiful and enjoyable adaptation and I feel so lucky that I came across it .

Love Reigns
hampster7626 December 2020
This series is about a new love connection between two very sensitive, caring, and giving individuals. One is shy and has never been in a relationship. The other is very careful to be thoughtful and understanding of his love interest. The storyline is charming and shares how all of us are insecure and cautious when entering a love relationship. The powerful message is love reigns. Highly recommend to everyone who believes in love.

Dear Writers/Producers/Directors/Cast/Production Company, please let us share the growing love with a Season 2. Arigato! Thank you!

Really fun and cute rom com
adrianaprsouza-6388616 November 2021
Well, the title itself reveals the main plot: Kiyoshi Adachi gains magical powers in his 30 years old anniversary as the legend about late virgins says. I won't tell you what is the hability, just that it makes this Boys' Love romantic comedy really interesting and fun to watch. We keep thinking about what we would do with this power and getting anxious to know what Adachi will do next and how he will react and interact with people. Moreover, the show is based on a manga written by Yuu Toyota so the series episodes are short, the pace is naturaly faster and there are not that many subplots. I read the first chapter of the manga and it's impressive how the crew perfectly adapted it to the first episode. The actors, essentialy Eiji Akaso (Adachi) and Keita Machida (Kurosawa) are really alike the manga characters, in terms of look and personality. I liked every aspect: the comedy, the romance and the fantasy. The only negative thing to me was a subplot in the narrative involving Tsuge and Minato which wasn't so well developed. Overall, I enjoyed the show a lot and was surprised as this one is the first BL I watched. If you are not used to anime or to japanese shows you might take a while to get used to the acting and language but it's totally worth to give it a try if you like this genre.

Magical, emotional, entertaining - Need season 2
bhardwaj-purnima201121 July 2021
Well to be honest I am not fan of rom-com when it comes to J or Kdramas, since they are very cheesy, weird and creepy. I have seen my fair share of BL dramas but and never liked them so much, but this drama is magical, a gem, so precious. The story, cast everything is just perfect. Adachi is absolutely adorable and without doubt Kurosawa's smile is blinding. The chemistry is amazing & the writing is top notch. Its a not to miss drama and I really really wish that they come back with S2.

Good concept. Less Drama
jaysshukla24 April 2024
The concept could be really interesting even for the normal anime. Since it is used in Yaoi, we could only imagine the shock value of the mind reader uke character that there is a man interested in him. There were some bunch of nice set-ups that could help in bringing the characters together.

However, since the characters were 30 old, they would show so much maturity that never do we see them fight, despite the series of misunderstandings. That's where the apparent creative ideas were lost. The characters in Yes Ka No Ka Hanbun ka were also older. However, they weren't salarymen and they had unique jobs that would make them somewhat famous. Hence, we could at times see them behaving like young people, who would often end up expressing themselves openly. However, in this Cherry magic anime, the certain layer of professionalism is never lost in the main characters even when they are enjoying romance. In fact, one of the secondary uke character was a young dancer, just recently graduated. We could've expected him to be bit dramatic but no even he was behaving like the grown-ups. He has a one tooth face and upon few meetings, his seme love interest, who is an author, reveals that he has started writing the tsundere characters lately unlike before. However, never did I notice any of his outright Tsundere traits. Moreover, you desperately needed an other character to convey that he is a tsundere.

Quite similarly, there was a female character, a fujoshi, who seems to be reacting how the mangaka thought the fujoshi and fudanshi viewers react. But her character that tried to be a bridge between the viewers and the two of the main characters fell down like a London's bridge. Since there was never any major tension or any hyper exciting moments between the two characters, one may not feel too excitement while watching this series.

I did like the concept so much because in the end, as the character loses his ability upon having the sex, it gave me the feeling of it's much larger purpose in the storyline. From the character's perspective, it is the kind of a universal or the godly assistance he received to have a chance to connect with someone.

Overall, it is a decent series if you don't expect much. Good enough to kill time.

Sweet but Silly and Simple
fake_moviestar28 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This definitely felt like a live action anime to me. After watching tons of K Drama's this is my first J Drama, and I have to say I am a little disappointed. I wasn't expecting a lot, this is a M/M romance after all, and like all of the m/m romances I have seen they are usually low-budget, silly stories without a lot of plot.

So what does this get right? First of all, it is shot really nicely, particularly the opening credits sequence, which is just gorgeous. The characters are nice, although nothing special, pretty much your standard yaoi/bl character types. The main couple is very cute, and they are both handsome and good actors.

What wasn't great were some of the straight from anime type scenes, like yelling "whaaaaatttt?" into the camera, or really silly tropes that are typical of anime. The plot was pretty simple and didn't really provide a climax or any angst, it was just ehhh. We don't even get a proper kiss from the main couple. In this respect the m/m korean romances at least give you one good kiss at the end.

Anyway, this is cute and silly and a good watch for hardcore bl romance fans. Hoping that both korean and japanese bl romances will start to be better in the future.

Wonderful TV Show
mxlrose21 June 2021
I didn't know what to expect when going into this show, but it's become my favourite. The story is so beautifully told with incredible acting and it's not just a refreshing queer story that avoids awful tropes, but it's also a fascintaing character study with honestly the most relatable main character I've ever seen. If you're looking for something sweet and heartwarming (albeit kind of an emotional rollercoaster) I definitely recommend this show.

Well-executed idea with good production values and excellent acting
gee-1520 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Adachi is an introverted, socially awkward young man who has reached the age of thirty without ever having had a relationship. He hasn't even dated. He discovers the truth underlying the myth that if you reach your 30th birthday a virgin, you will become a wizard (must be a lot of wizards around). The only power he has though is to read people's minds when he touches them. Realistically, he finds this disturbing (it sounds cool but think about it....do you really want to be able to read minds? There's a lot of stuff that goes through them). Even more disturbing to him, Adachi discovers, through this power, that Kurosawa, an attractive, charismatic, kind and successful coworker is in love with him. That alone rocks Adachi's world. The fact that Kurosawa is a man makes it even more difficult for him to process.

It can be difficult for series about gay relationships to have universal appeal but this one probably does about as good a job at creating a situation, characters, and a romance that all might find appealing. The two principal actors are excellent. It took me a while to realize the Eiji Akaso was the same actor who starred in "Sensei Don't You Know?" In that series, he is as confident and charismatic as he is socially inept in this one. In other words, he really inhabits the character. Keita Machida is also excellent at portraying a warm, confident man whose smiles and kindness masks strong emotions and reactions. One of the best moments in the series, is right after Kurosawa finally confesses how he feels to Adachi and Adachi (in his typically inarticulate manner) is unable to figure out how to respond. Assuming that he's rejected, Kurosawa walks away, still seemingly unruffled by Adachi's response. However, we are allowed for a brief moment to see the emotional devastation overwhelming him before the smooth composed mask falls back in place. It was some excellent acting on his part.

I'm not sure the secondary story focusing on Adachi's friend who also develops this ability (he is also 30 and a virgin) and his relationship with the delivery boy who brings pet supplies for his cat is as successful. The actor playing the delivery boy looks about 14 which makes their romance a little uncomfortable to watch (I'm sure the actor playing the delivery boy is at least 19 or 20 but you have to mentally adjust to see it). But this secondary romance does have an important role to play in the series.

Anyway it's a funny, romantic and dramatic series.

A picturesque depiction of love
huyuyu-207174 April 2021
The chemistry of the main couple truly blows me up. It's super cute. There's no plot twist, I reckon, just many cute daily interactions between the 2 main characters. However, the acting and the well-written plot make this series very touching. I love the scenes with close focus, very dreamy.

My 1st time watching a Japanese BL Series
arcadiojeffreyperida26 February 2022
This one definitely lived up to my expectations and more. The actors offered great visuals, acting and even made me tearful at some scenes. Well recommended to watch. Hope there's another season in the future. Really would look forward to that when Kurosawa and Adachi make their relationship progress further.

A perfect romance series. MUST WATCH !!
priyagoswami-9447214 November 2022
Japanese shows never make you regret choosing it.

Although, I did not like the name of this show. I thought it would be kind of cringe yet I was wrong. I must say Japanese shows deliver emotions very well.

This show has subtle romane with humour which makes your heart flutter.

This series doesnt have much physical intimacy scenes but then also you do not feel like there is anything missing.

Story line is good and its execution is done well.

I loved the chemistry between the leads of the show. Their acting skills are amazing.

Show is good at humour level too.

All in all I loved it.

A must Watch romantic comedy. 10/10.

It's magic is how happy it makes you feel watching it
connie_cow19 November 2023
Kurosawa is the greenest of green flag characters and Adachi is the cute, innocent type. Kurosawa just radiates the love he feels for Adachi and asks for absolutely nothing from him in return. So when they're together you're left beaming.

I have watched this minimum 6x at least and I still absolutely love it. The movie finished it off lovely when the series felt like it needed just that little bit extra.

It's just a heartwarming, emotional and sweet story. The side characters are funny and there are no evil women lol as there usually are in BLs. It has plenty of charm and laughs in it and I really recommend it to anyone who just wants a smooshy, love story.

Adorible and funny
smax-3668628 December 2021
The story was fun. When i first read the plot i thought it was stupid and i had to see it. But seeing it coused me to love the story. Even the painfully awkard scenes. It's the only bl show i've ever rewatched and it's deffiently worth that title. It makes virgins look embaresing in a few scenes but I guess if you're already thirty it makes sense.

I can honestly say i mainly love this story for the stupidly funny scenes and the embarasment which make it a great show.

A perfect BL/Gay romantic drama
sarinaabraham5 March 2024
This drama shows if the actor's acting is good you don't need kiss or sex scenes to make the drama, romantic or interesting. This days all the directors are crazy to show sex and kiss scenes, I think few things should be left for imagination. It's not like I hate sex scenes but at times it just feels like they are throwing it in my face and something it is truly unnecessary This drama is based on a guy who has been virgin for 30 years. On his 30th birthday he gets a power to read people's mind. Through that power he finds out his male colleague has a crush on him. That is the base story you will know more of you watch it.

In my opinion this is a good drama if you have time please check it out.

Emotional Depth and Beyond Expectations
emilyruthburns15 November 2023
It was very hot, enjoyable, and (especially in the first half) rich in passion. The BL series exceeded my expectations. The quality of Japanese BL series in recent times surprises me. Acting, scenes, flow, and storytelling (except for the sound) are far superior to Taiwanese BL series. I highly recommend it. It was emotional, but the pace was not slow. It had a very appropriate flow.

The lack of focus on the fantasy part was odd. I loved how Adachi's emotions and thoughts were portrayed so beautifully, realistically, and logically. At one point, I could just watch Adachi; he could carry the story on his own.

In fact, at the end of the series, it seemed like Adachi was with Kurosawa to spare himself from the sorrow of not being loved. After all, his exploration of his gay identity happened entirely because of Kurosawa's intense love for him. I wonder if Kurosawa were a woman, would Adachi have agreed? Probably yes :D. Again, Kurosawa won, and that didn't come as a surprise :)

I didn't like the storytelling of our second couple. It started with great potential but turned out to be empty and developed too quickly. There was no chemistry between them and our author's behaviour was too exaggerated for his age. While the writer's tough and mature side was excellent, falling in love in two days and the absurdities in their actions were very nonsensical. I couldn't feel the love.

Lastly, Adachi's decrease in confidence in the second half saddened me. Adachi should have been cool, silent, and aloof because Kurosawa was outgoing, talkative, and social. They were a beautiful contrast to each other. However, when Adachi became insecure towards the end, it made me wonder why the boy was so fixated on him. And, in my opinion, the reason they gave was insufficient for falling in love with someone lacking confidence. If Adachi were confident but cold, aloof, and introverted, the given reason would have been enough.
