the captain is a master manipulator

Warning: Spoilers
This show is pretty interesting, even though heavily scripted and manipulated. The series is a psychologists wet dream. The captain in particular is so interesting because she's a master manipulator. First off, when trying to justify her opinion on anything, it's always "I've been doing this for a long time", so it's basically I know more than you. And her other tactic is to complement and convince you of her empathy while at the same time running you over with the bus. She's creating the drama onboard the boat without being directly involved. It's almost as if she wants situations to fail so it creates more attention for herself. Wouldn't be surprised if she sabotaged the boat physically, such as disabling the engines so she could demonstrate her skills, which are pretty limited. She's also an expert at the double bind which is where you create a situation for someone where they cannot possible succeed and this episode is a perfect example. Numerous times throughout the season she says on camera to her crew that it doesn't matter what the guests think, only what she thinks that matters but this season, and this episode in particular she says numerous times that she expects the crew to exceed the expectations of the clients. Master manipulation because she's not the stupid that she doesn't know you can't have it both ways. This season she fires the chef after belittling him for not producing what the clients wanted, while at the same time saying that she can't find any fault with the food. "I like your food, but the clients don't but it's what I think matters and you're a great chef but you have to be replaced because you're not a super yacht chef." Classic double bind. No wonder the guy melted down. Every episode with her in the seat is like this. The show is an interesting mess with the weirdest people having no problem dropping their pants for millions of viewers. Personally I wouldn't go to sea with any of them but they're interesting to watch.
